INTERNATIONAL MARKET: Stockholm's Metronome is launching a new business initiative titled Digital Media. The unit will work with other Metronome group subsidiaries to distribute television and film productions across digital platforms. Headed up by Mats Dicklen as Business Area Manager/Digital Media, the online projects will include www.lyxfallan.se , the new humor portal with the Schulman brothers, and more. Mats was previously Managing Director for GroupM & WPP's Outrider agency. Castalia Communications Corporation and Cablecom have launched MEXICANAL Network in 20 cities throughout Mexico beginning this month. The Mexican regional programming network currently airs nationwide in the U.S. on DIRECTV. Madhouse, Toei Animation, and Jinni's Animation Studios are three of the studios that Walt Disney Japan has decided to work with to jumpstart cartoon production for television and digital markets in Japan and Asia in general. With the first company, Walt Disney Television International Japan will create the 30-minute Stitch!, based on the Lilo & Stitch character, for an October 2008 debut. Jinni's Animation Studios will produce Fireball CG short for an April airing on Disney Channel. June will bring the debut of a Toei Animation co-production, the animated short Robodz. Future plans for the Disney unit include mobile broadcasts and local Japan cartoon exporting across Asia. Germany's EM.Entertainment signed a deal with Modern Times Group in Greece for the exclusive free TV rights to Maya The Bee and Heidi while ERT took the same rights for Alice In Wonderland. In Slovenia, RTV picked up VIPO, Pippi Longstocking, and Karlsson On The Roof, per C21. Czech channel Ceska Televize renewed broadcast rights for programming. Africa's Gateway Broadcast Services has the pay TV rights to Master Raindrop, Staines Down Drains, VIPO, Tabaluga, and Flipper & Lopaka. Ripley's Believe It Or Not! is heading to the Philippines following a deal between Sony Pictures Television International and GMA Network. Last week saw the launch of two other local versions in Singapore on MediaCorp's Channel 5, and on TV One in Indonesia. NBC has given the go-ahead for a pilot from Reveille after the latter licensed the remake rights from Power to the Peruvian show Mi Problema con las Mujeres. Justin Timberlake has signed on to exec produce with several others the My Problem With Women project with London's Power producer, which bought the U.S. distribution and versioning rights from Frecuencia Latina International in 2007. The format of the original 60-minute show will be shortened to a 30-minute U.S. local version following a 30-something bachelor examining his failed romantic relationships with his therapist. The long-standing relationship between Jonathan M. Shiff Productions, Germany's ZDF and ZDF Enterprises, and Australia's Network Ten has produced another show which is making its way to the U.S. Nickelodeon picked up the first 52 episodes of the live action H2O - Just Add Water for a March 16 debut at 730p. It will be preceded by a 60-minute movie on March 14 at 8p. The series will end up in Nick's TEENick programming lineup, bringing the international count for H2O - Just Add Water to over 120 territories. The third season will be ready next year. EXECUTIVE MOVES: Hit Entertainment Limited's CEO, Bruce Steinberg has resigned while his successor, Jeffrey D. Dunn, was announced. The change is effective immediately. A 13-year Nick veteran, Jeffrey is the former COO for Nickelodeon Networks and the former President of Nickelodeon Film and Enterprises at MTV Networks.
