It's Friday, February 15, 2008, and this is your first early morning International & Multicultural briefing. INTERNATIONAL MARKET: It's final. Elisabeth Murdoch and her London-based Shine Ltd. finalized its acquisition of Ben Silverman's 6-year old Reveille indie TV company. The deal went for $125 million. One of the aspects of the buy sees Ben continuing to profit from Reveille's The Office for another five years. CNN Latin America overseer Turner Broadcasting System and Liberty Global's Chilean division, VTR, are teaming up to launch a new local CNN Chile. The cable network, broadcast from Santiago, will have access to CNN Worldwide resources in addition to producing local fare when it debuts later in 2008. Germany's Senator Entertainment is continuing to acquire new companies with the latest addition to its cache being the Cologne-based Weltruf TV. The 9-year old TV production house was started up by the rather controversial entertainer Niels Ruf and Stefan Kiwit. The Spanish market just received a bit of investment from Disney. The U.S. company's Walt Disney Co. Iberia has taken a 20% stake in Vocento's Net TV free-to-air network. As part of the $39+ million investment, the Disney division will bring its movie and TV library to the channel. Vocento's Pantalla Digital will then have a 55% stake while Intereconomia's Homo Videns and Disney will retain 25% and 20%, respectively. CNBC Europe is looking to expand its content boundaries with new programming centering on entertainment, lifestyle, public affairs, and sports genres making their debut beginning February 23. The 18-hour CNBC Life block airing Saturdays and Sundays from 1-10p will air programming such as The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Travel Channel content, and PGA Tour, Challenge Tour, and other sports content. The K4-7-targeted Lifeboat Luke (52x5) is traveling the seas to Ireland's RTE, the U.S.' Animania, and RTV Slovenia following deals made by Monster Distributes, according to C21. Virgin Media Television's Virgin1 picked up the 20x30 Death Defying Rescues series from IMG Media's Darlow Smithson Productions. Astral Media's The Movie Network (eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment's Movie Central (western Canada) will present the final 13 episodes of the Canadian original drama series ReGenesis, premiering March 2 at 8p and 9p, respectively. This will be its fourth season. The show will be simulcast on The Movie Network and Movie Central's high-def channels in addition to being available on-demand on The Movie Network OnDemand and Movie Central On Demand. It is produced by Shaftesbury Films in association with The Movie Network, Movie Central and Showcase. GAY/LESBIAN MARKET: Logo has greenlit Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom (working title), a full-length feature based on Logo's Noah's Arc series, about four black gay friends living in LA. The film will be released during the second half of 2008. EXECUTIVE MOVES: The new VP/Licensing, Europe for Nelvana Enterprises will be Antoine Erligmann, effective immediately. Based in Paris, he will develop and implement consumer products business plans and strategies for Europe and will supervise Consumer products activities in the U.K. and Benelux.He will also develop and oversee marketing plans for key European territories.
