INTERNATIONAL MARKET: The Memorandum of Agreement has been officially signed between NBC Universal and NDTV Ltd to form a long-term strategic partnership in India. NBC Universal is acquiring a 26% share in NDTV Networks, the holding company for NDTV Ltd's entertainment and lifestyle channels, digital media and other interests, including media products and services. Channels operated by NDTV Networks include NDTV Imagine, a new Hindi general entertainment channel launched on Monday, and the recently unveiled lifestyle channel NDTV Good Times. NBC Universal will also have an option for the next 2 years to increase its stake to become a 50% partner with NDTV in the JV company through which NBCU is investing. Disney Mobile is making its way to Japan with Walt Disney Japan unveiling its first mobile phones this week for a March 1 launch with Softbank Corp. The service will target young working women in their 20-30s with three different phones. Disney Mobile will be Japan's first mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). There are some rumors rumbling about that the U.K.'s kid-centric company, Entertainment Rights (ER), is in prelim talks regarding a potential takeover with names such as Haim Saban's Saban Capital, private equity firm 3i, hedge fund Och-Ziff, and others mentioned. Turner Latin America (TLA), Infinito, and Discovery Latin America (DLA) have inked individual licensing deals with CABLEready for several 60-minute series. Covering basic cable/satellite rights, the agreements give TLA the pre-sale rights to the 10-episode Stunt Stars, which is currently in production. Infinito gains World of Wealth (11 eps) and Karma Trekkers (10 eps), while DLA has renewed its rights to air Maternity Ward (49 eps). Another Latin American deal has been signed pre-NATPE. Rigel Entertainment licensed to Mexico's Quality Films distributor the Pan Latin American theatrical, pay, and free TV rights and DVD rights for Blonde and Blonder and When a Man Falls in the Forest. LAPTV has also acquired the Pan Latin American pay TV rights to San Saba. The U.K.'s Virgin Media Television (VMtv) and Sweden's Intelligent Gaming Solutions (IGS) are working together in a branded content deal that will bring the BingoLotto format to viewers of Challenge and Virgin1 in primetime from February 29. BingoLotto is a live, weekly 60-minute TV game where the home audience plays along to win prizes, having purchased tickets beforehand from retail stores. Part of the profits will be donated to a number of charities. It is based on Swedish version, owned and operated by IGS. U.K. indie producer Spun Gold will produce the show, which will be fronted by Joe Pasquale and Suzanne Shaw. HISPANIC MARKET: Spanish broadcaster TVE has sold 120 episodes of its 30-minute Los Lunnis muppet show to Spanish Broadcasting System's Miami-based Mega TV for broadcasting in the U.S. It will debut on the channel in March with muppet sketches, appearances, and more, according to Variety. E! Entertainment Television is including a Spanish-language SAP simulcast for the first time as part of its annual Live from the Red Carpet event for the 14th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. It all begins on January 27 at 5p with Countdown to the Red Carpet. Get ready to play with ESPN and SCP Worldwide as the two get ready for the 2010 South American World Cup Qualifying tournament (SAWCQ). ESPN Deportes will broadcast 70 games with 14 airing live. The network will also produce, distribute, and assist SCP in marketing in the U.S. The deal includes a package of Friendly matches in 2008 and 2009 showcasing South American teams with ESPN Deportes carrying an official highlights show recapping each round, a round preview show, and coverage of the South American World Cup Qualifiers SportsCenter, Fuera de Juego, and Cronometro. Another aspect of the agreement sees SCP producing added soccer related content to ESPN Deportes. ESPN Deportes Radio will also provide live coverage of the South American World Cup Qualifying tournament. V-me's PARTICIPA 2008 coverage of the elections starts on Super Tuesday (February 5) with live primetime coverage from 10p-1a with Jorge Gestoso, Arturo Valenzuela, and others. Throughout the election season, the V-me Noticias team will provide news with its live hourly news breaks in primetime. Viva Voz will present special reports and analysis from Washington on its Thursday program, Viva Voz Desde Washington. Each week at 10p, Viva Voz Desde Washington will be devoted to a discussion and analysis of the big issues facing America's voters, inside and outside the Hispanic community. AFRICAN AMERICAN MARKET: BET's Celebration of Gospel will raise the roof on January 27 at 8 pm with a 120-minute revival hosted by comedian/actor/radio personality Steve Harvey from LA. The U.K.'s Target Entertainment begins 2008 by naming Jenny Daly to the newly created position of Chief Creative Officer for the U.S. Reporting to Target's Group MD, Ian Jones, she will be responsible for developing and producing new content for the U.S. market, U.S.-U.K. co-production opportunities and securing first look and development deals with local U.S. producers. Jenny will work alongside Target's West Coast SVP Programming Glen Hansen. Most recently she worked as Partner and Executive Producer at Go Go Luckey Productions.
