INTERNATIONAL MARKET: German pay TV network Premiere has acquired the youth-targeted Giga Digital with Premiere Star header, Wolfram Winter, at the helm. Following the buy, Premiere is looking to add the free-to-air gaming/lifestyle channel, owned by NBC Universal recently, to go beyond its pay TV offerings. Swedish company TeliaSonera's TEO LT AB division has signed on the dotted line to buy Lithuania's UAB Nacionaline Skaitmenine Televizija (UAB NST) or UAB National Digital Television. Nerijus Ivanauskas, currently CMO and Deputy GM of TEO LT AB, will be the television broadcaster's new GM. UAB NST was sold by UAB Mikrovisatos TV for an undisclosed amount and holds two licenses for the re-broadcasting of digital terrestrial network-distributed TV channels. A fifth national TV channel may be in the making in Portugal as the government gets ready to auction off a license for a free-to-air channel and a digital television tender this year. The auction will begin 6 months after the tender takes place. Some of the players anticipated to take part in the auction include media group Cofina and telecommunication companies such as Albertis, Portugal Telecom, Sonaecom, and Vodafone. In addition to airing on digital terrestrial TV, the fifth channel will air simulcasts from RTP1, RTP2, TVI, and SIC. Animation producer Alphanim is all set to be acquired by France's Gaumont film house as a result of nearly two months of exclusive negotiations. More details are expected next week, per C21. The 10-year old animator has a 700-program library of 30-minute shows. Australia's Beyond Distribution has imported its factual series Big City Broker to the U.S. following a deal with Fine Living Network. The series, produced by JV Productions Inc for HGTV, is about a big city real estate broker, Brad Lamb, and his rather ambitious sales team. 4Kids Entertainment completed licensing deals with broadcasters in the U.K. and Europe for its mixed cel and CGI animated series Dinosaur King. The new fantasy/adventures series will make its debut on Mediaset (Italy), RTL2 (Germany), France 3 (France), Canal J (France), and Jetix (UK, Scandinavia and Spain) during the 2008-2009 season. 4Kids expects to announce deals for Australia, Latin America, and Canada leading into NATPE later this month. The series premiered in the U.S. on 4Kids TV this past fall. The free TV rights to the high-def Travels to the Edge with Art Wolfe nature series have been picked up by Hong Kong's TVB from the U.S.' APT Worldwide. SF has the Swiss rights covering terrestrial, cable, and satellite, according to World Screen.
