The latest skinny on the skirmish between Jay Leno, NBC and the WGA: It seems Jay was under the impression he personally could write is monologue for his Tonight Show return on Wednesday night. WGA says no - he's a credited writer on the show and therefore writing his monologue is violating the strike rules. NBC issued a statement that said "The WGA agreement permits Jay Leno to write his own monologue for The Tonight Show." The response from the WGA is it met with Leno and clarified for him the strike rules and that writing for the show (or for himself on the show) is a violation. There is some speculation that were Leno to ad-lib his monologue, he'd be in the clear, but nothing official has stated that. As for the results on the night - Tonight Show delivered 7.2 million viewers; Letterman 5.5 million, both shows up from their pre-strike days. As for later night, Conan delivered 2.8 million viewers; and Ferguson 2.2 million, both up from their pre-strike days; and Jimmy Kimmel had 1.8 million viewers, flat with pre-strike averages. Tonight's Premieres: NBC: 1 vs. 100 at 8p WE tv: Ugliest House on the Block at 8p Lifetime: How to Look Good Naked at 9p, Matched in Manhattan at 930p and Top This Party at 10p National Geographic: DogTown at 9p Discovery Channel: Fight Quest at 10p Starz InBlack: Hip Hop: Raw & Uncut at 10p TLC: Miss America Reality Check at 10p Sunday's Premieres: NBC: American Gladiators at 9p HBO: The Wire at 9p Showtime: The L Word at 9p TWC: When Weather Changed History at 9p Food Network: Jamie At Home at 10p ABC: Cashmere Mafia at 1001p
