It's Friday, December 7, 2007, and this is your first early morning International & Multicultural briefing. INTERNATIONAL MARKET: Fox will see its Don't Forget the Lyrics reversioned in several new European countries following format sales by RDF Rights to Italia Uno, Austria's ATV with Tresor TV producing (New Year debut), Slovakia's JOJ, and Croatia's Nova. France 2 is preparing to debut its local version on December 15 while the U.K.'s Sky One has ordered up 12 episodes from RDF Television for a 2008 debut. Turkey's Antena and India's Star are currently producing their own versions. Peace Arch Entertainment Group Inc. has acquired exclusive Canadian distribution rights to 32 films from LA-based indie production house First Look Studios. Peace Arch will release five theatrically in Canada, followed by DVD, VOD, and TV distribution. The remaining 27 titles will be distributed on broadcast TV throughout Canada. This deal follows the long-term output deal signed in February giving Peace Arch exclusive Canadian DVD rights to all of First Look's titles. The U.K.'s Entertainment Rights Plc (ER) picked up the distribution rights for Latin America for the new 26-episode, 22-minute Transformers Animated plus a 70-minute special episode. ER previously acquired the global free and pay TV distribution rights (excluding North America) for the 2-D animated series. U.K. terrestrial Channel 4 has re-commissioned 3DD to produce a fourth, high-def series of the live music show The Album Chart Show. With filming scheduled for late January, the fourth series will broadcast February-March 2008, bringing the series total to over 60 episodes. HIT Entertainment has sold Barney, Bob the Builder, Thomas & Friends, and the Calling All Engines special to Discovery Kids Latin America. Discovery will air previously unaired episodes of the first three shows in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking Latin American countries. HIT Entertainment's 64-year old founder and chairman, Peter Orton, passed away after a heroic 11-year fight against cancer. Under him, the company launched franchises such as Angelina Ballerina, Pingu, Bob the Builder, and Kipper. The company started out as a Jim Henson Co. distribution division and originally launched with the only the 60-episode Alvin and the Chipmunks distribution rights, per HR. Canada's 9 Story Entertainment sold its 26-episode Futz! to Australia's ABC, HBO Asia, Finland's YLE, Spain's Luk Internacional, the Middle East's Teleview, and. The 3-minute, 2-D non-verbal series is a 9 Story and Teletoon co-production. BBC Northern Ireland has commissioned Tern Television to produce three new programs out of its Belfast office. The 60-minute Get Well Northern Ireland follows Boo Armstrong and her team as they try to improve the health of Northern Ireland using alternative therapies. The other shows include the 60-minute Discos and the 30-minute Gorillas in the Shed documentary. HISPANIC MARKET: Cuban comedian, director, and actor Alexis Valdes signed an exclusive contract with Spanish Broadcasting System's MEGA TV to broadcast his new program, La Hora de Alexis Valdes. It will begin airing weekdays at 9p in January 2008 on MEGA TV and at 10p on DirecTV Channel 405. The magazine-style TV show will feature a team of international actors. AFRICAN AMERICAN MARKET: BET's Sunday Best finished on a high note as the #2 season finale in BET's history with the series' live season finale bringing in more than 1.2 million households and 1.7 million viewers. TV One's holiday lineup includes, among other programming, the premiere of a behind-the-scenes special, Unwrapped: The Perfect Holiday, on December 8 at 730p about the upcoming The Perfect Holiday film. On December 16 from 8-9p, TV One will continues its "TV One-derful Time of the Year" celebration with the network debut of the family Christmas special Santa Baby. GAY/LESBIAN MARKET: Showtime signed an exclusive deal with www.OurChart.com to debut The L Word a week before its January 6 television debut on. The lesbian social networking website, which is a joint venture with Showtime's parent, CBS Operations Inc., will stream the episode on December 30 with extra features connected to the show.
