Yesterday the Senate Commerce Committee gave full approval and passed a bill to stop a FCC vote on December 18 that would loosen its ban on newspaper-broadcast cross-ownership. The bill now goes in front of the full Senate. The bill, proposed by Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND) would require the FCC to publish any proposed rule changes in the Federal Register 90 days prior to a vote, allowing the public 60 days to comment and an additional 30 days for reply comments. January, the Association has told its members that for planning purposes,
if the strike is still ongoing by December 14, the January TCA
Tour will be cancelled. Meanwhile the two sides are scheduled to
continue their negotiations today, which is always encouraging. Speaking of the strike, CBS President/CEO Leslie Moonves confirmed yesterday at the 35th Annual UBS Global Media and Communications conference in New York that CBS has plans to integrate some Showtime series into the primetime schedule this midseason if the strike continues. Show under consideration include Dexter, Weed and Brotherhood, all of which would be edited for broadcast TV. Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution has now cleared the new syndicated talk show The Bonnie Hunt Show in more than 85% of the U.S. for a fall 2008 launch. New stations joining the line up are from such groups as Barrington Broadcasting, Columbia Broadcasting, ComCorp, Grant Communications, JW Broadcasting, Nexstar, Peak Media and Sainte Television Group, as well as Tribune Broadcasting, Sinclair Broadcast Group, LIN Broadcasting and Gray Television among others. E!'s season finale of Keeping Up With The Kardashians last Sunday (1030p) pulled a 2.97 rating among W18-34 and a 1.31 rating with A18-49. the title character of its drama pilot Danny Fricke, a procedure
crime drama. The project from Sony Pictures TV and 25C Prods,
focuses on police detective Fricke, recently promoted - coincidentally
shortly after sleeping with her boss - and dealing with a new group of
old-school detectives and high profile cases, reports THR. If
Nielsen's name sounds familiar, she filled in during Mariska Hargitay's

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~
CBS named Maggie Rodriguez as
Anchor for its Saturday Early Show and
Co-Anchor of the Early Show starting January 7. Recently,
the network confirmed Hannah Storm will depart from the Early Show
and she is discussing a new position with CBS News President Sean
McManus. Maggie has anchored the Saturday Early Show since June and has
reported for and substituted as anchor for the weekday show. In addition
she has reported for CBS Evening News with Katie Couric and CBS News
Sunday Morning and substituted as anchor for the weekend Evening News.
Marc Juris advanced to EVP/GM at Court TV where he will oversee daily operations and strategic planning. His management will also encompass the network's rebranding initiative, resulting in Court TV's transition into truTV on January 1. Granite Broadcasting Corporation hired Craig Coane as President/GM for the independent television station, KBWB/San Francisco, beginning December 10. Craig comes from Comcast Corporation where he was the Director/Local Sales in San Francisco for four years. In his new position, he will report direct to John Deushane, COO. Telemundo named Borja Perez to the new position of Yahoo! Telemundo Alliance Leader in addition to his current role as VP/Market Development, Digital Media. Borja's new duties will have him grow the Yahoo! Telemundo target audience, synchronize Yahoo! Telemundo programming and editorial content and services and work with Yahoo! and Telemundo marketing groups to increase U.S. IP Hispanic users. He will report to Peter Blacker, SVP/Digital Media. Digitas promoted several executives to SVP including four from the Boston office: Chris England in Account Planning; Ben Jones and John Robinson in Creative; and Elliott Seaborn in Marketing. Two others were upped from the New York office: Amy McAllister in Marketing and David Wigder in Strategy & Analysis, and Michael Karg in Relationship Lead from the London office. Original Productions recruited Kerri Zane as VP/Women's Programming to develop female-targeted action-adventure docu-reality series.
