Cynopsis: International 11/30/07 Good morning. It's Friday, November 30, 2007, and this is your first early morning International & Multicultural briefing. INTERNATIONAL MARKET: The U.K.'s NBDtv has restructured its sales and acquisitions team. September International, September Films' distribution unit, has been merged into NBDtv, adding its 600+ hours of primetime programming. With the changes, the NBD sales team has been restructured with execs Rick Barker, Danielle Davies and former September International exec Alex Maldini becoming SVP/Sales for their existing territories with Lauren Marriott as VP/Sales. Rick is now Head of Arts and Drama Programming; with Danielle as Head/Music Programming and Alex as Head/Factual and Formats. The Media Development Authority of Singapore and Canal France International signed a Memorandum of Understanding for new exchanges between France and Singapore, including digital broadcasting training collaborations and co-production projects. Montreal's Equinoxe Films signed a 2-year agreement covering the English- and French-language theatrical, pay TV, free TV, and home video rights to distribute Kimmel International's movies in Canada. The deal includes both Sidney Kimmel Entertainment production and Kimmel International purchases, according to Variety. FremantleMedia Enterprise has become quite neighborly with Scandinavia with its recent sale of Australian soap Neighbours to Sweden's TV4, Norway's NRK3, and Finland's MTV3. The show first debuted back in 1985 and is already airing in 57 other countries. Parthenon Entertainment is co-producing a new high-def animal series called Baby Planet (WT) with Animal Planet US, Animal Planet International and French broadcaster France 5. The 5-episode, 60-minute series will feature good news stories from wildlife maternity wards around the world. DCD Media plc's U.K.-based September Films received commissions from WE:Women's Entertainment Network for a 22-episode season 5 of Bridezillas to air from June 2008. DCD Media's in-house distribution division, NBDtv, will continue to distribute the series. September Films also picked up an order from The History Channel to make The Lost Ark of The Covenant, a 120-minute feature-length documentary to air early in 2008 in the U.S. Channel4, which holds the U.K. rights, will simultaneously air a 90-minute version. The Africa Channel will premiere a special broadcast of Seeing Red: Fighting Aids in Africa on World Aids Day, December 1, at 7p. It features an interview between the network's CEO/co-founder, James Makawa, and Bobby Shriver, co-founder of the (RED) campaign that he launched with Bono. HISPANIC MARKET: Telemundo will debut Victoria, a story about an older woman who finds a second chance at love with a younger man. The telenovela starts off on December 4 at 9p. Fox Sports en Espanol will televise the two-part Copa Nissan Sudamericana final between Mexico's Club America and Argentina's Arsenal exclusively live today and December 5. A 30-minute pre-game show hosted by Jorge Ramos and Hernan Pereira will start off the evening at 8p. Galavision aired the two highest rated Futbol Liga Mexicana matches in the network's history over the Thanksgiving holiday. On November 22, the UNAM vs. Toluca match set a new network record with 571,000 A18-49, followed two days later on the 24 with a new record for Atlante vs. Cruz Azul with 592,000 A18-49, according to Nielsen Media Research's Source: NHIH ratings. JEWISH MARKET: More than ten hours of Shalom TV coverage of presentations and events from the 2007 United Jewish Communities General Assembly are being carried on Comcast and Blue Ridge cable systems. GAY/LESBIAN MARKET: Logo has greenlit a new 8-episode dating reality series, Transamerican Love Story, about transgender activist/artist/actress/author Calpernia Addams and her quest for love. The show will premiere in February 2008. Calpernia is openly transgender to all the show's contestants from the start. Live voting results will also air during the show from online voting at www.LOGOonline.com . The network also ordered up six episodes of the 30-minute Gimme Sugar, which follows five women searching for love in the L.A. lesbian scene and Rockdogs (WT). The latter chronicles San Francisco's star gay basketball team. EXECUTIVE MOVES: The U.K.'s Entertainment Rights Plc named Adam Selly as Head/Sales (excluding the U.S., Canada, and Japan). In this newly created position, he will oversee ad sales revenue for the group's television and home entertainment businesses. Adam previously founded Dynamite Entertainment Ltd, a kids animation production company and distributor. He will report to Chloe van den Berg, Director/International.
