Good Morning. It's
Wednesday, November
7, 2007 and this is your first
early morning briefing.
Because of the Hollywood writers' strike, productionhas ceased
on at least sixsitcoms that are filmed before live audiences,
although some of the shows may have already wrapped production. The shows
affected include CBS' The New Adventures of Old Christine, Rules of
Engagement, Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory; and FOX's
freshman Back to You and 'til Death.
Tonight's
Finales: SCI FI Channel: Ghost Hunters at 9p Bravo: Better Half at 10p Comedy Central: The Sarah Silverman Program at 1030p

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~
In other writers' strike-related news,
CBS may be bringing back BigBrother for a
mid-season run as soon as next February rather than waiting until summer,
according to Variety. The network added staff and quietly moved
forward with casting for the new season a few weeks ago. The Endemol USA
and Allison Grodner Productions reality show may also insert a new facet
such as having celebrities live together for three months instead of
regular folk. Airing three times per week, Big Brother would fill three
hours of primetime if the strike keeps going.
As for Ellen - she has returned to her show and said that while
she will continue her show as her contract requires, she does support the
writers. As for the strike itself, at this writing there are no new
talks scheduled.
Okay - here's a quick question for you. Most believe this
WGA strike will take a little time - some less optimistically think it
could take a very long time to resolve. And it's a reasonable good
guess that much of primetime will be filled with reality shows as
scripted shows come to a production halt. Assuming that's the case,
of all the reality shows on television, which would you most like to see
return to primetime tv? Me? I liked the Mole (remember
Anderson Cooper as the host?!).
Broadcast Evening News Ratings Wrap-Up: Despite the numbers being
down from the previous week, ABC continues to lead with both total
viewers and with the coveted news demo of A25-54. Here are the results
for the week of October 29, 2007:
ABC: 8.57 million total viewers; 2.1/9 and 2.56 million A25-54
NBC: 8.26 million total viewers; 2.0/8 and 2.48 million A25-54
CBS: 6.22 million total viewers; 1.5/6 and 1.89 million A25-54
It's that time of year again -- or that time every few years again --
when Cynopsis conducts a quick 5-question survey to find out what
you think about and use this daily, how you'd like to see it
improved. Honestly, this will take less than 30 seconds, it's
completely anonymous. and we'd really appreciate your input.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~
The N, the nighttime network for teens
and Reveille began production in Decatur, IL on The N's Student
Body, a new teen fitness reality series hosted by Laila Ali. The
eight-episode, one-hour series follows 12 teens from two rival high
schools as they lose weight, get healthy and deal with their fears. The
series is slated to debut next year.
Lifetime's new pilot project The Verdict from Lionsgate has
added to the cast with Emma Lung, Madchen Amick and Robin Givens.
Givens plays the pop star on trial for murdering her lover. Amick
plays the ADA, and Lung a UK reporter covering the trial.
WE tv is also working on a teen project as the original series
HighSchool Confidential will follow the lives of 12 teen
girls from freshman year through graduation day. The eight-episode,
one-hour series will debut next March and is created and executive
produced by Sharon Liese, produced by New Line Television and Herizon
Productions. Sharon Liese, a single mom of a 13-year old daughter, was
granted access to a 1200-student high school in suburban Kansas to
chronicle the stories of the 12 girls as they explore self-image issues,
family dynamics, religion and death.
HGTV ordered 26 more episodes of My First Place, a
docu-reality series about first-time homebuyers from High Noon
Entertainment. The series will air Sundays at 1030p.
TV Guide Network has ordered up a new original series - this one a
game called Celebrity Says. Produced by City Lights Television
with host Dave Holmes, the game presents footage from the red carpet to
three contestants who are tested to see how well they know their
celebrities, per THR. TV Guide has ordered 65 episodes and plans
to strip the series in prime, with a second run in daytime.
