It's Thursday, October 11, 2007, and this is your first early morning International & Multicultural briefing. INTERNATIONAL MARKET: Turner Broadcasting System Europe's CNN International and Adult Swim are being added to Joost's offering this month. The deal covers on-demand access to CNN's news and features and Adult Swim's comedy and animation shows. Turner will also offer programming from its CNN International, Adult Swim, TCM, and Nuts TV in Europe through YouTube and DailyMotion. CNBC is expanding into New Zealand as of October 15 following a carriage deal with Sky New Zealand. The deal will add on 670,000 New Zealand homes to the network's distribution. MIPCOM 2007 NEWS: Abu Dhabi-based real estate company, Hydra Properties, is partnering with Showtime Arabia and Infinity TV to launch a new reality TV series, The Hydra Executives. The series brings 16 aspiring entrepreneurs from the U.S. and the U.K. to the United Arab Emirates' Abu Dhabi to compete for 15 weeks to be entitled to get $1,000,000 to fund a business ventur0065. Telemundo Internacional and SBS International have signed a distribution agreement covering the Korean network's drama series catalog in Latin America. One of the productions included is the 22-episode telenovela Stairway to Heaven (Escalera al cielo). Disney-ABC International Television Japan (DAIT) and USEN Corporation signed a VOD rental agreement to provide major titles from DAIT's portfolio over USEN's broadband entertainment service GyaO, GyaO NEXT, and ShowTime. AETN International reached an agreement to license 37 hours of programming from The History Channel catalog to China International Television Corp. (CITVC), CCTV's commercial arm. CITVC has licensed three series, including Ancient Discoveries (10x60), Nature Tech (6 x60), and UFO Files (21 x60). The two companies' previous co-production deal between CCTV and The History Channel for a 4-hour special, China's First Emperor, will see the show airing worldwide on The History Channel. In addition, AETN All Asia Networks, a joint venture of AETN and ASTRO All Asia Entertainment Networks, acquired Rise of the Great Powers from CCTV for broadcast on The History Channel in South East Asia. France's Canal Plus acquired a bunch of U.S. shows to add to its repertoire, including ABC's Dirty Sexy Money and The Reaper, CW's Aliens in America, FX's Damages and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and NBC's 30 Rock, according to Hollywood Reporter. BRB Internacional completed several more sales for its young-adult targeted high-def 3D animated series, The Imp (65x90 seconds) with MTV in Portugal, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and Sweden's SVT. Hit Entertainment signed a deal with U.K.-based production house Cocaban and Korean animation studio SAMG to develop and co-produce a new Boys K6-8-targeted animated series titled T5. The action/adventure series is about a group of household pets that start the T5 Team, which turns into a winning racing team. In the U.K., HIT inked a deal to distribute kid shows Willo the Wisp, Little Monsters, and Microscopic Milton from Spargo Productions. Spanish animation studio Zinkia and video games publisher Virgin Play inked a deal this week in Cannes under which they will launch Hello Pocoyo!, the new and first console game based on the animated TV series Pocoyo. Virgin Play's v.2 Play label will oversee worldwide distribution rights for Pocoyo for Nintendo DS. Slated to debut in Spain in the beginning of 2008, Zinkia is currently producing the console game at its Madrid studios. Pocoyo is co-produced by Zinkia and Granada International in collaboration with Granada International and Cosgrove Hall. Pocoyo also has a channel on YouTube as well as a mobile channel on Vodafone Live in Spain. Bavaria Media has acquired rights to the girl-targeted series Heidi (26x30), according to C21 Media. Slated to premiere this fall on Switzerland's TSR, Heidi is produced by Dune Productions and Swiss Rita Productions for Television Suisse Romande and France 2. The series has been pre-sold to a range of broadcasters including: PIK (Cyprus), BNT (Bulgaria), Prima TV (Czech Republic), SK/STV (Slovakia), TV2 (Norway), RTE (Ireland), and TVP (Poland). CROSS-MARKET: Sesame Workshop and Merrill Lynch launched Panwapa, a new kid-targeted global outreach, in NYC. It is designed to encourage K4-7 to get involved and participate in their local world experience as well as a global citizen. The initiative includes an interactive website ( www.panwapa.com ), DVD, and print materials for kids, which are available in five languages. HISPANIC MARKET: The Masters has granted ESPN exclusive U.S. rights to televise the first two rounds of the Masters Tournament beginning in 2008. ESPN and ESPN HD will present live first- and second-round coverage from 4-7p each day as will ESPN Deportes with a Spanish-language telecast. The telecasts will also be replayed each night from 8-11p. A special preview show will air the Wednesday of Masters week while ESPN Classic will televise Official Masters Films on Wednesday and Thursday leading up to the first-round telecast. Both the Top 10 Broadcast Spanish Language and English Language Primetime Program Live +SD ratings from Nielsen Media Research for the week of October 1-7, 2007 will be updated as soon as they are available. LATAM MARKET: More details on the distribution of MTV Latin America's Los Premios MTV Latin America 2007. In Latin America, the event will reach more than 67 million households via pay TV on MTV Latin America, broadcast television via syndication, and MTV Brazil. It will also be broadcast on thirteen giant public screens throughout Mexico City. Broadcast networks re-airing the event include Televisa in Mexico, City TV in Colombia, Ecuavisa in Ecuador, Canal 12 in El Salvador, and TVN in Panama.In the U.S., it will air live on MTV Tr3s, followed by pre-show, show and post-show highlights featured on thirty-two MTV Tr3s radio stations the next morning.
