~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~
Okay, get your DVRs ready for the fourth
season of ABC's Dancing with the Stars. The celebrity
dancing competition show premieres March 19 with a two-hour special at
8p, and the show will return the following week on March 26 at 8p with a
second two-hour special to allow the participants to strut their stuff
before any eliminations. The first results show will air then on March 27
at 9p. And now here are the next celebrity dancers:
During the week of February 12, ABC's World News with Charles Gibson and NBC's Nightly News with Brian Williams were neck and neck, yet ABC's newscast edged out the competition in A25-54 demo by week's end. ABC's World News had 10.06 million total viewers and a 2.6/10 among A25-54, while NBC had 10.17 million total viewers and a 2.6/9 with A25-54. CBS' Evening News with Katie Couric had 7.78 million total viewers and a 2.2/8 among A25-54. TNT's coverage of the 2007 NBA All-Star Game was a slam dunk for viewers as 3.62 million A18-49 viewers tuned in, as well as 3.28 million A25-54 viewers. Tied in with the eighth season premiere of America's Next Top Model on February 28 at 8p, The CW Network and MediaVest will present a new content wrap featuring the branded entertainment and popular culture magazine CWH or C What's Hot, C What's Happening, C What's Hip. This next content wrap will be sponsored again by Procter & Gamble's Herbal Essences and will feature hairstyling tips for the upcoming beach season. The Television Bureau of Advertising announced a multi-million dollar digital platform TVB ePort, enabling paperless electronic transactions between advertisers, agencies, broadcasters and station reps. With initial funding from National Association of Broadcasters, the TVB will push to create an open standards solution that will streamline the laborious, error-prone process of spot TV buying and selling. ePort will handle everything from standard spot transactions to website, video-on-demand and wireless advertising buys. The platform is expected to be ready in the fourth quarter.
~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~
Lion Television USA, based in New York,
has been given an 80-episode order from Discovery Channel to
produce the half-hour series Cash Cab hosted by comedian Ben
Bailey. Commuters will hail ordinary-looking taxi cabs, and discover they
are on a national TV show with the opportunity to win cash during their
ride. The international division of All3Media, parent company of
Lion Television, has licensed the Cash Cab format with various major
broadcasters in many countries including U.K., Russia, Germany, Spain and
more. A new weekly TV series is in the works that will highlight celebrities who participate in pro-green activities or sponsorships. Lightworks Producing Group (LPG) and eco-friendly web site Ecorazzi.com will produce. Food Network has signed a multiple year contract with culinary expert Ingrid Hoffmann to host a new daytime series focused on Latin cooking. The so far unnamed series will debut this summer. Currently, Ingrid stars in her own cooking and lifestyle show Delicioso, on the Spanish-language Galavision/Univision. CBS Television Distribution and Deborah Norville have signed a new multiyear agreement for her to remain as anchor of the syndicated newsmagazine show Inside Edition. Norville has been with the show since 1995. Casting Updates: ABC:
~ BROADBAND & DIGITAL ~
A wide-ranging deal in the works between
CBS and Google appears now to be dead, according to a
Wall Street Journal report. Close to being announced last month at
CES, it involved video ad-sharing rights for CBS shows and ad sales of
CBS Radio spots. The media company and internet search giant could
not agree on issues such as minimum guarantees for CBS and the length the
deal would run. Talks could resume some time in the future, sources said,
but for now the two companies will work together on more modest
initiatives. The WSJ story also claimed the general counsel of NBC
sent Google a six-page letter last week demanding it keep unauthorized
content off YouTube. IFC Entertainment is making 13 of its feature films available on the ITunes Store, 6 of which are nominated for the upcoming Independent Spirit Awards to be held February 24. Nominees include American Gun starring Forest Whitaker (best male lead), Land of Plenty starring Michelle Williams (best female lead) and Sorry, Haters starring Robin Wright Penn (best female lead.) All IFC titles will be priced at $9.99. Ion Media Networks, formerly Paxson Communications, debuted ION Life this week, a digital broadcast network focusing on active lifestyles, personal growth and wellness. The company sees strong demand for programming in this space and plans to expand the ION Life brand to other platforms, including VOD, mobile and ionlife.tv. The 24/7 network is the latest multicast channel from ION, joining kids network qubo, a joint venture with Scholastic, Corus Entertainment, Classic Media and NBC Universal.
