CYNTHIA TURNER'S

CYNOPSIS Kids!
02/23/04

Good morning. It's Monday, February 23, 2004, and this is your early morning Kids! briefing.

The next 10 chapters of the animated micro series, Star Wars: Clone Wars will premiere on Cartoon Network beginning with Chapter 11, Friday, March 26, 9:30p.  The following nine chapters will make their debut March 29-April 8, 8p.  In these next ten chapters (11-20) of the animated story, which picked up where Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones left off, viewers will be introduced to a new villain General Grievous, a part alien/part robot character who figures as a major player in George Lucas’ upcoming feature Star Wars: Episode III.  The network will feature the micro series in a Star Wars: Clone Wars marathon on April 9; chapters 11-20, 8-10p and April 10, chapters 1-5 at 9p-12a.

Kids’ WB presents a special episode of Static Shock this Saturday, February 28, 8:30a.  Titled Hoop Squad, the special follows the series superhero, Static when he goes to LA for the All-Star Game and meets up with basketball stars Karl Malone, Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady and Steve Nash in their animated forms.  Static is shocked to find out that these very basketball heroes are also superheroes whose incredible athletic abilities are augmented by donning ‘high-tech bio-enhancer suits,’ to become The Hoop Squad, each possessing their own superhero persona: Malone, the leader of the team, is the Pulverizer with the power to pulverize anything with his hands; Yao Ming becomes Center Force who is able to leap over mountains and run at superhuman speeds; as Spin Drive McGrady has the ability to spin like a cyclone; and finally Nash becomes Point Man who with his remarkable aim is able to launch mini exploding rockets from his armored gloves.  Static and The Hoop Squad join forces to fight against the evil Dr. Odium.

Charged with complaints the Walt Disney Company has lost its 'creative edge', Studios Chairman Dick Cook responds:
"I think creativity at our studio has never been more on the upswing. I think we have more great projects, both in live action and animation, than we have had in years."  The studio division took in $3 billion in worldwide box office sales in 2003, thanks perhaps in large part to a little fish named Nemo (personally responsible for $340 million last year), not to mention Pirates fo the Caribbean ($304 million) as well as others including Holes ($67m) and Freaky Friday ($110m).  And still to come, two more films from Pixar (likely its last two at the Disney Studios): The Incredibles and Cars, both due out in 2005.
