CYNOPSIS Kids!
02/27/04

Good morning. It's Friday, February 27, 2004, and this is your early morning Kids! briefing.

Marvel Enterprises, Inc. has assigned Lions Gate Entertainment the licenses to develop, produce and distribute feature films based on two of Marvel’s properties; Iron Fist and Black Widow.  The announcement was made yesterday by Lions Gate CEO, Jon Feltheimer and Avi Arad, Chairman & CEO/Marvel Studios. The new agreements expand the pre-existing relationship between Marvel and Artisan Entertainment, acquired by Lions Gate in December 2003, which allowed Artisan to produce and distribute feature films based upon Marvel’s character, The Punisher.  Marvel and Lions Gate will share equally in certain revenues derived from the properties, with Lions Gate funding development, production and distribution. Marvel will be handling all merchandising in connection with the films.  The Punisher (Rated R) opens nationwide April 16, with plans for a sequel already signed, sealed and in development.

Following the recent announcement that Peak Entertainment Holdings Inc./Silly Goose Company, LLC, will acquire the exclusive rights to develop the preschool series concept The Wumblers, the project series is officially underway.  Production began at Cosgrove Hall, the UK-based animation studio, on the 2D animation series, aptly titled The Wumblers (26 x 10).  Under the terms of the acquisition, Peak holds worldwide broadcast, merchandising and licensing rights.  The Wumblers is slated to be ready for a spring 2005 debut. Peak intends to license the characters to drive an extensive consumer products campaign, which includes the manufacture and distribution of toys and related products.

MTV's The Real World (Bunim-Murray Prods) is heading to Philadelphia, The City of Brotherly Love, for the production of its 15th season this spring. The series will premiere on MTV in the fall with 24 eps.  And for you Road Rules fans, the fun heads to Chile and Argentina in February as production begins for the 16 episodes which are scheduled to debut in May '04.

Oxygen announced that the network has acquired the exclusive rights to air the US premiere of last years feature film Whale Rider (Newmarket), from Sony Classic Pictures and will run the movie through February 2007. Debby Beece, President/Programming, made the announcement yesterday.  Whale Rider will debut on Oxygen this Monday, March 1, 8p.

This weekend in celebration of the 500th episode of Power Rangers franchise, ABC Family will air a special Best of the Power Rangers, including clips from all dozen or so chapters of the ever Mighty and Morphing Power Rangers TV series, tomorrow morning, February 28, 8:30a on the new Jetix programming block.

Below is the new Fox Box programming schedule for March & April 2004.  Beginning Saturday, March 6, the line-up will include new times for several series in addition to new episodes of some of the morning shows.

Answer to yesterday's Trivia Question:
Every now again you come across a character who's hat was as much a part of the person as what they said and did.  This character's hat was bronzed and given the show's exec prod Sherwood Schwartz when the series ended.  Who's hat was it? From Gilligan's Island, the answer is Alan Hale's (The Skipper) hat is bronzed and sitting on the credenza in Sherwood's office.  Kudos to:  Bob Shea-Perfectly Nice/NY; Jim Perham-Genio Group/NY; Dean Lavine-The Disney Channel/Burbank.

Today's Trivia Question:  Stanley Beamish is better known as whom?   (To answer the trivia, click here and please remember to include your name, company, city and time zone.  Only the second four  from each time zone will appear in tomorrow's kudos list.)
