China will get more MTV and Nickelodeon with a series of
new deals and plans unveiled by Viacom, Chairman/CEO, Sumner R. Redstone
at a press conference in Guangzhou Province this past Friday, including a
strategic partnership with Beijing Television, expansion plans for the
24/7 MTV service in the Guangdong Province and across China in general,
as well as extending its Nickelodeon programming agreement with China
Central TV. Commenting on the deals/plans Redstone said, ‘As the
only global brand with a 24-hour channel in China, MTV China’s expansion
in Guangdong – China’s most important regional advertising market – is
critical to our business development and paves the way for continued
growth of MTV’s 24-hour service in China.’
MTV China (24/7 service) will see the tripling of its distribution
within Guangdong Province by the end of this year, while the 24hr service
will also extend its reach to nearly 10m HHs across China. MTV
China will also launch a locally produced HIV/AIDS prevention campaign.
Viacom’s partnership with BTV will produce Chinese language music
& entertainment programming for distribution to BTV’s channels, and
to other channels across China, as well as globally.
Viacom is extending its agreement with CCTV for Nickelodeon animated
programming airing on the Chinese broadcaster’s kids channel, which began
airing Nick’s animated series in March 2004.
Viacom content partnership, this deal follows the company’s
announcement in March of China’s first production joint venture through
Shanghai Media Group (SMG), to create Chinese language kids programming
for distribution in China and abroad.

American Idol 3 finalist and teenager Diana DeGarmo (16) has signed on with the Wm Wrigley Jr. Company to help get teens across the country to help make a difference in their communities by participating in Wrigley’s newly launched ‘Wrigley’s greenup.’ DeGarmo will help speak to teens about getting involved in fixing up their communities. Targeted specifically to teens Wrigley’s greenup is asking teens to submit an idea about a specific problem area in their community that they would like to cleaned/fixed-up or ‘greened up’ as well as suggesting how they think this would improve the quality of life for people living there. A committee will wade through submissions and select up to 20 suggested projects and award the project submitting teens and their friends with a Wrigley sponsored ‘greenup’ event that will also include a variety of activities. The twenty or so events will take place during the annual Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup March-May, 2005. Additionally, Wrigley will also sponsor a concert performance by DeGarmo, whose new album will be released December 7, in each of the winning communities, all of which will be held during summer 2005. Information about Wrigley’s greenup campaign is available to teens via the Simon D-Tour Live, which is touring Simon Mall shopping malls across the country through October 16, in school on The Channel One Network through October. Previously Wrigley’s greenup information was featured via an in-store promotion that ended August, 2004. More information is available at www.wrigleysgreenup.com.
