HISPANIC MARKET:
Meredith Corporation is launching a new
publication geared towards Hispanic women on a bi-monthly rollout
schedule this fall. With an initial rate base of 350,000,
Siempre Mujer! is aiming to be a lifestyle and shelter
publication. Siempre Mujer! will be able to tap into Meredith
Corp.'s resources and alliances to sell subscriptions to the
Hispanic-focused publication. Susan Baron, VP and Ruth Gaviria,
Publisher/Executive Director of Meredith Hispanic Ventures, were named to
head up the magazine's launch and marketing efforts. Johanna
Buchholtz-Torres will oversee the editorial creation as
Editor-in-Chief.
Visa launched a new Hispanic ad campaign to promote its
Visa check card through Houston's Lopez Negrete ad agency.
The Spanish-language national and local television, print and radio ads
will center around the movies and the hassle of paying with cash rather
than using a Visa check card. The TV ads are set to air on
Telemundo, Univision, Telefutura, Galavision, TV Azteca, Fox en Espanol,
ESPN Deportes, and GolTV. Radio spots will air on Albuquerque,
N.M., Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, LA, Miami, New York, Phoenix,
San Antonio and San Francisco stations. Print advertisements will
start appearing in the spring in Spanish-language entertainment,
lifestyle, and parenting publications.
LA will soon see a new English-language Hispanic magazine on
newsstands in May. Ciudad, LLC (Emmis Communications
Corporation subsidiary) is launching the bimonthlyTu Ciudad Los
Angeles(Your City) for up and coming and affluent Hispanics in
the metro area. Initially targeting 3.5 million Latinos, the
magazine will center on LA culture, entertainment and lifestyle.

LATAM MARKET:
A new Latino music show will debt on February 5
on Azteca America through a new joint venture involving Azteca
America, Billboard magazine and 13th Floor
Television. The weekly 1-hour entertainment magazine,
Billboard Latino, will air on Saturdays at 9 pm with showcased
Latin music and artists on each show. Azteca America is presently
available in 38 Hispanic markets.
TV Globo Internacional will begin broadcasting Carnival 2005
live from Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Bahia and Pernambuco from
February 4-9. The 5-day festival will be made available to the
network's 1.8 million subscribers in 45 countries.

Black Family Channel's Black History Month lineup
includes several original productions as well as special programming

The half hour A Design for Success centers on African American
auto designers and their contributions on February 16 at 9:30 pm.
The 1-hour Ebony Fashion Fair takes a look back at the last 45
years of Glamouron February 9 at 10 pm.
In the Future of Black America: Slave Reparations, a panel
discussion will air on the issues surrounding slave reparations on
February 2 from 9-10 pm.
The half hour Future of Black America: Martin Luther King 35
years, Past, Present, & Future looks at the life and lessons of
the civil rights leader on February 7 at 9 pm.
Memphis Then & Now delves into Memphis after the
assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King in a half-hour program on
February 3 at 10 pm.
Milestones: Black Inventors highlights African American
inventors and their work on February 1 from 8-8:30 pm.
In the half-hour News Special: Newsmakers, BFC's news unit
looks back at who made history in 2003 and 2004 on February 24 at 10 pm.
Sports Desk Special: Legends centers on great sports legends
on February 28 from 9-10 pm.
Specials:
The 2-hour All-American Band competition program chronicles 8
urban high school bands in the running for best nationwide show band on
February 14 at 9 pm.
The 1-hour Band of Gold: Early Days at Motown takes a look at
the original Motown performers on February 10 at 10 pm.
Gospel Video Countdown: 25 years of Tradition is a 1-hour look
at Gospel traditions on February 6 at 8 pm.
The first part of a series, The Beat Forever is a documentary
on the Junkanoo Parade & Festival in the Grand Bahamas Islands on
February 21 at 9 pm followed by the second part on February 23 at 9 pm.
The 24-hour commercial-free WAM! Channel is revving up for Black
History Month with a slew of programs geared towards the channel's family
friendly audience, tweens and teens. The channel's education block
will include the following films during February:
And the Children Shall Lead looks at racism during voter
registration in the South through the eyes of a girl in 1964.
Black Like Me chronicles a white journalist's journey to
experience being black in the South in the 1950s by undergoing
pigmentation treatments to darken his skin.
In Booker, the slavery to freedom journey and life of Booker
T. Washington is chronicled and dramatized.
The HD documentary Cosmic Africa delves into astronomy in
Africa.
The Road to Brown centers on the tale of segregation, the
downfall of the Jim Crow laws (and the lawyer who defeated it) and a
recognition of Charles Hamilton, an African American lawyer who helped
start the fight for school desegregation.
Simple Justice deals with the time when US legal system did
not protect or fight against injustices against African Americans and the
lawyers who fought to right the discrimination.
The 1910-based story, Words By Heart, centers on the only
African American family in a town and the troubles they encounter when
the daughter wins a competition.
The second season of BET's College Hill will debut today at
9 pm. The African American reality show will have a 13-week run
from Langston University's campus.

INDIAN/ASIAN MARKET:
The NBA has renewed its ties to several Chinese
networks and stations. China Central Television (CCTV) will
air 4 games a week (96 games total) on CCTV 5 with additional coverage of
the NBA All-Star Game, playoffs and finals as well as NBA TV Daily and
NBA Time. The renewal agreements were also signed with broadcaster
Shanghai Television (STV) and Anhui TV, Beijing TV, Fujian TV,
Guangdong TV, Liaoning TV, Shaanxi TV, Shangdong TV, Sichuan TV, Hebei
TV, Hubei TV, Tianjin TV and Zhejiang TV local stations.
