LATAM MARKET:
PROMAX&BDA's Latin American Conference
is returning this year for a two-day run in Miami Beach on March 2-3.
The event will focus in on branding, promotion, design and efficiency
developments and practices connected to the Latin American media market.
Steve Grieder (Chairman/PROMAX&BDA, SVP/Nickelodeon International)
will open the event with Manuel Gilardi (VP of Corporate Image and
Advertising/Televisa) as the conference's keynote speaker. In
addition, the PROMAX&BDA Latin American Awards will take place on
March 3 for 55 different categories. Some of the Latin American

Women In Film and Television International
(WIFTI) and Women In Film and Video of Washington, DC.
(WIFV-DC) are jointly hosting Celebracion Latina Night in
Washington DC on February 24 at 7 pm to promote the Latin American film
and television community and to honor Hispanic women. The Cristina Show's
Cristina Saralegui will be given the 2005 Women In Film and Television
International Humanitarian Award for Global Vision. The global
network WIFTI is made up of 35+ Women in Film and Television chapters
with 10,000+ members across the globe. WMDO-TV Univision

AFRICAN AMERICAN MARKET:
Documentary director Jeffrey Tuchman and
cinematographer Andy Bowley's newest film will center on the
personal stories of those who lived in and were involved with the civil
rights movement. The Voices of Civil Rights documentary
chronicles Jeffrey, Andy and other media personnel as they traveled
across the US for 70 days filming and interviewing over 1000
people. A small portion of the footage will air on The History
Channel on February 12 at 8 pm with all the footage to be archived at the
Library of Congress. AARP, The Leadership Conference on Civil
Rights and the Library of Congress jointly collaborated on Voices of
Civil Rights.
Bermuda Department of Tourism's African-American agency of record,
Images USA, is set to debut a new and first ever ad campaign
for the islandspecifically focusing on African Americans for
Black History Month. With the campaign theme,
"Embrace…", Images USA will launch the campaign with an ad in
multicultural golf lifestyle The Green Magazine's February/March
edition. Additional aspects of the Bermuda ad campaign will
continue to roll out throughout the year including April ads in the
multicultural travel magazine Odyssey Couleur and the
business magazine Black Enterprise and event sponsorships,
The February 9 episode of The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliott
pulled in the series' highest ratings this season with Adults 18-34
(1.9/5) and Women 18-34 (2.5/7). The show saw a increase in several
areas with a 58% jump up for adults 18-34 (1.9/5), +56% for adults 18-49
(1.4/4), +67% for women 18-34 (2.5/7), +64% for women 18-49 (1.8/4) and
+38% total viewers (2.9 million) over last week.
ASIAN MARKET:
Shanghai General Motors and Chevrolet's Shanghai
agency, Interpublic Group of Cos.' McCann Erickson Worldwide, have
started a new campaign to market the first time Chevrolet has been
available in mainland China. The ad campaign will initially
consist of 60-second television ads on China's national broadcaster CCTV
as well as on local channels in 8 key cities.
GAY/LESBIAN:
here! will be bringing a new series to its
service with the addition of its new here! Focus program on March
1. The series will center on those who strive to make a difference
or change in the LGBT community. The seven 6-minute interstitials will
profile 7 organizations and people from around the US:
INTERNATIONAL MARKET:
UK television companies are dominating the
international format arena according to a recent Television Research
Partnership (TRP) survey ordered up by the British Television
Distributors' Association (now part of Pact). The Rights of Passage
report showed that the country constitutes 45% of the global format
market by hours and 49% by the number of titles in the channels studied
in 2003. UK Trade & Investment, C4 International, BBC
Worldwide, Granada International, PricewaterhouseCoopers, The Simpkins
Partnership and Pact sponsored the survey. Rights of Passage
investigated imported programs on 57 channels in ten key television
territories such as the US, Australia and Japan. The titles showing
the most reach from the UK included Changing Rooms, Pop Idol, The Weakest
Link and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
MTV Networks and McDonald's are collaborating on a new
project to bring the network's American show MTV Advance Warning
to international viewers. The new locally adapted 30-minute
episodes will debut in Europe on February 19 and Asia on February 21 (the
Latin American show has already debuted). MTV Advance Warning
showcases fresh, emerging music artist talent.
