HISPANIC MARKET:
Volkswagen Latin America named Miami-based indie
COD Hispanic agency to its Spanish-language ad account for
Puerto Rico and eight Central and South American countries. COD
is the corporation's US Hispanic agency of record but had not previously
taken on this account. The account was previously with another
independent agency, La Comunidad. Havas' MPG will retain Volkswagen
Latin America's media buying account. COD first line of business
will center around the new Jetta version for Latin America renamed
Bora.
Si TV is turning one. In honor of its first
anniversary, the English-language Hispanic network will broadcast the
cable premiere of James Cameron's Dark Angel as well as the launch
of the Si TV's first scripted series Circumsized Cinema. The
new series breaks down full length Mexican B-rated movies into 22-minute
short films with a brand new plot. Moctesuma Esparza is the
producer behind Circumsized Cinema. Since its debut, Si TV has
grown from 6.5 million homes to more than 9 million. It is now
carried by Comcast Cable, Time Warner Cable (+ digital basic), Cox
Communications, Grande Communications, and EchoStar's DISH Network.
Rick Najera's LATINOLOGUES will launch on February 19 at 8
pm in New York City at The Town Hall Theatre for one show only.
With nearly all the monologues in English, the live comedy features
Eugenio Derbez, Rene Lavan, Rick Najera, Monica Ortiz and others to be
announced. LATINOLOGUES tells different tales of life as a US

Univision Radio, Univision Television
and Univision Online have teamed up to offer the
"Salud, Dinero y Amor" Expo centering on Hispanic women
on February 26-27. The LA event will focus on topics concerning
finance, family, health and other subjects that pertain to their roles as
family heads and leaders in their communities. The Ford-presented
and McDonald's-sponsored expo will continue on to other US cities such as
Houston, Miami, Chicago and New York this year.
AFRICAN AMERICAN MARKET:
Turning Point Magazine, an African
American and minority-oriented small business magazine, received
magazine accreditation from BPA Worldwide. BPA Worldwide is
a worldwide resource for verified audience data and media knowledge.
Gospel Superfest Television is releasing the second part of its
5th Annual Salute to Black History in honor of Black History
Month. United Television, LLC is the network and show's producer
and distributor with Dr. Bobby Cartwright, Jr. as exec producer. In
addition to the many gospel performances, the show pays special tribute
to Mom & Pop Winans with a Lifetime Achievement Award. More details

ASIAN/INDIAN MARKET:
India's NDTV Profit channel (New Delhi
Television) has picked up CBS' 60 Minutes for
broadcasting. The new business news channel will begin airing the
program on February 20 at 10 pm with a episode centering on Bollywood
celeb Aishwarya Rai.
Arclight Films and Dreyfuss/James Productions are
collaborating on the feature length Hindi-language thriller The
Forest starring India's Irfan Khan. The movie centers on a
married couple vacationing to offset an impending divorce but all the
while must deal with a man-eating leopard. This will mark the
directorial debut of Ashvin Kumar in features. He produces the film
with Judith James and takes credit as the scriptwriter. Gary
Hamilton is the exec producer with Arclight's Darclight Films
representing The Forest. Production is scheduled to take place in
Thailand and India as of May.
GAY/LESBIAN MARKET:
A new lifestyle gay magazine is set to
launch for the 25-49 year old reader. SCENE will
cover news updates, feature/profile stories, gay celebs, fashion and
international gay pop culture. The Lund Entertainment,
Inc.-published publication will come out 6 times a year with
comedian/actor Mario Cantone gracing the first edition cover. SCENE
will be distributed through newsstands and events. In addition, the
mag's premiere issue will feature Brian Ellner's political campaign for
Manhattan borough president, champion figure skater Johnny Weir.
SCENE's staff includes Mark A. Lund as Publisher, Lois Elfman as
Editor-in-Chief and Marcus Gemma as Chief Creative Officer with all
taking part as principal partners.
INTERNATIONAL MARKET:
Canada's The Movie Network and Movie
Central will launch HBO's Deadwood second season on
March 6 at 9 pm. The western drama series will continue to air on
Sundays.
Interactive television company OpenTV Corporation inked a
licensing agreement with Australia's free-to-air broadcaster Channel
Nine for the initial installation of two OpenTV headend solutions
(OpenTV Streamer and OpenTV H20). The deal will enable the
Australian network to broadcast only once to multiple platforms with
different standards.
etc., ALL MARKETS:
Nickelodeon Asia Pacific has upped Catherine
Nebauer to SVP/General Manager from her current position as
general manager of Nickelodeon Australia. She will oversee the
channel's regional business and brand expansion and collaborate with its
Indian, Japanerse, Chinese, Southeast Asian and Australian management
teams. Catherine will be based in Singapore by the end of March and
report to Frank Brown, MTV Networks Asia's president.
Warner Bros. International Television Distribution (WBITD) named
Becky Diver as Director/U.K. Marketing. She will
oversee the marketing strategies for the company's UK and Ireland
locations. Becky was previously head of marketing at BSkyB.
She will be based in London and report to Chandra Years, VP of European
marketing at WBITD and Alison Cressey, group marketing director at Warner
Bros. Entertainment UK.
Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America named Baron
Carr as VP/Multicultural Marketing. He will be
responsible for the company's multicultural marketing strategic
development initiatives and in-house diversity efforts. Baron was
previously with JP Morgan Chase in New York City as VP of emerging
markets and product development for the automotive finance unit.
ImpreMedia named Carlos Mauricio Olea as Corporate
Accounts Manager. Carlos will continue in his present position
as Associate Publisher of La Raza (ImpreMedia subsidiary) as well.
He first joined the company in 1992.
