ASIAN/INDIAN MARKET:
The US' Tokyopop has purchased 3D cgi
animated series Bumper King from Korean and LA-based
FXDigital/DiFarm. The digital studio developed the
26-episode bumper car action/adventure/comedy for 6-12 year-olds.
Tokyopop, a manga comic publisher, has picked up the series' global media
rights for television, video console games, publishing toys, apparel and
DVD releases.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.'s MGM Networks has launched its The
MGM Channel in Thailand through cabsat provider
UBC. The newly available channel is part of the large
provider's Silver and Platinum Packages with Thai subtitling in future
collaborative plans between the two companies. MGM Networks' most
recent deal in the Asian market was made with CNBC Asia Pacific (Greater
China and Southeast Asia market) for operational and distribution
purposes for The MGM channel. The new UBC agreement will be
included under that regional alliance deal as well. The channel freshest
contracts are in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Singapore, Taiwan and
Malaysia.
MIDDLE EAST MARKET:
Egypt TV is in a bit of a financial quandary as
the latest news points to the Egyptian state broadcaster's $500
million (3 billion Egyptian pounds) debt to foreign program
suppliers and news agencies. The debt is expected to increase
$135 million annually. The Minister of Information Dr. Mamdouh El
Beltagui may need to shut down one of the two Egypt Sat channels and cut
the local channels' transmission hours to 12 hours daily in order to cut
the down the debt increase. As a result of the unsettled accounts,
foreign suppliers are supposedly not delivering on orders until payment
is received.
GAY/LESBIAN MARKET:
Well, it's Simpson official…Marge's sister
Patty Bouvier came out of the closet and into the limelight last
night. Following the legalization of gay marriage in the fictional
Springfield, Patty and her girlfriend Veronica were married by the newly
internet-ordained Homer in an episode lampooning many of the
characteristic antagonists in the homos#xual marriage issue (gays,
lesbians, preachers, marketers and more) and even the Simpsons' own Fox
network. Your vote in Cynopsis MCE's August 2, 2004 edition
was for Lenny and Karl as your top contenders followed by Burns and
Smithers, Moe & Barney, Reverend Lovejoy and even Bart. So are
you singing the episode's theme…"Gay-o, it's O.K.-o, Tie the knot
and spend all your dough."
