Good morning! It's
Wednesday, March 2, 2005,
and this is your first early morning
Multi-Cultural
briefing.
Advertising Age's 2004 Agency ranks the top
multicultural agencies for calendar year 2003 by revenue in different
cultural specialties. Leading the group in marketing to
Hispanics is Bromley Communications (Publicis) with $32.9 million in
revenue (up 10% vs. the previous year), followed by Bravo Group (WPP)
with $31.8m (+14%), Dieste, Harmel & Partners* (Omnicom) with $23m
(+38%), Zubi Advertising Services with $16.4m (+10%) and La Agencia de
Orci & Asociados with $14.2m (+5%). GlobalHue is the largest US
multicultural specialist agency with revenues estimated at $57 million,
but it does not breakout its figures according to ethnic
populations). Marketing to African-Americans has Burrell
Communications Group* (Publicis) pulling in $26.1 million (+5% vs. 2003),
Carol H. Williams Advertising with $25m (+67%), UniWorld Group (WPP) with
$20.1m (-15%), Anderson Communications with 6.5m (+33%) and Fuse (WPP)
with 6m (+10%). The topper for Asian American marketing
revenue was A Partnership with $9.7 million (+12% vs. 2003), Kang
& Lee (WPP) with $7.7m (+17%), PanCom with $5.9m (+4%), Time
Advertising with $5.7m (-7%) and IW Group (Interpublic) with $5.5m
(-12%).
HISPANIC MARKET:
The two finalists in Perdue's first US
Hispanic ad agency search are New York-based Ole (independent) and
Coral Gables, Fl.'s del Rivero Messianu DDB (Omnicom Group).
The final decision will be announced in April for the $1 million dollar
account. And according to the rumor mill, the value on that account
has been upped to $3 million.
LATAM MARKET:
VH1's three new ad spots for its
Spanish-language version will air in Latin America. The
La Comunidad-created advertisements will continue their rollout in Mexico
this month with print and outdoor ads following their release in Latin
America and Puerto Rico last week. The spots focus on VH1's message
of going “beyond music” into other aspects of music and life.
AFRICAN AMERICAN MARKET:
UPN's Monday primetime block on February 28 saw a
season's best with a 1.9/5 rating for the A18-49 group and a 2.9/7 among
W18-34. The network's One on One also reached a season
topper with a 1.7/5 rating for A18-34. Cuts' February 28
episode also pulled ahead of its previous ratings for A18-34 (1.7/4),
A18-49 (1.4/3), W18-34 (2.3/5) and W18-49 (1.8/4).
Girlfriends' season's best showed with a 2.2/5 among A18-34, a
3.4/7 for W18-34 (3.4/7) and a 2.6/5 for W18-49.
As part of the February 28 episode of Half & Half, Tiffany
Alexander and Serena McKinney were named as the final winners of UPN's
Half & Half FastTrack competition, mixing a bit of reality TV
into the scripted sitcom. The real finalists on the fictional show
had to pick a random song and perform it in front of the real judges,
music producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and the camera as part of the
contest. The episode brought in a season high for the show with a
2.2/5 rating for A18-34, a 3.4/7 for W18-34 and a 2.7/5 for W18-49 and a
total of 3.8 million viewers.

Casting
Note: The makers of Wife Swap are going to
take an American family who are divided by conflict and over the course
of seven days work with them in an attempt to bring the family back
together again. The family members will be accompanied by a "Family
Relationship Therapist" who will encourage the members to air their
issues, be there to mediate, and hopefully repair the long standing feud
that has separated them. The family tries to resolve their differences,
relinquish their grudges and rediscover the relationships that made them
a family in the first place. If your family is interested in
participating, contact Producer Sandra Philippeaux, RDF Media for more
