Good morning! It's Wednesday, March 9, 2005, and this is your first early morning Multi-Cultural briefing.

A new nationwide 24-hour cable network will make its soft launch on March 18 on Dish Network as part of CoLours TV.   The Real Hip-Hop Network (
www.rhn.tv) is targeting the 18-34 year old urban audience with hip hop videos, news, commentary and special events.  Set to launch initially to Dish's 13.5 million homes, the network will continue to expand its offering with a full network launch in the spring.  Programs such as Analyze This (debate show centering on the rap lyric issues), Unsigned Heat (spotlight on unsigned talents in the hip hop arena), RHN “Live” (live concerts) and many more will build RHN's programming lineup.

HISPANIC MARKET:

Universal Music Group (UMG) is bringing a new Latino label to the music market.  The LA-headquartered Machete Music label will center on Reggaeton, hip hop, rap and dance hall with offices in Chicago, Miami, New York and Puerto Rico.  Gus Lopez was named as the new full service label's President.  He will be in charge of global marketing, sales, promotions and A&R.  Gus will report to Jesus Lopez, Chairman of Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula.  He was previously VP of Latin Sales/Marketing at UMG's Universal Music and Video Distribution (UMVD).

Sylvester Stallone will soon to be heard in Spanish following Telemundo's new agreement with NBC and the Rocky star to air The Contender.  A Spanish-language dubbed version of the reality show is set to debut this coming weekend on March 12 at 7p. Subsequent segments will air on Saturdays at 8 pm.  In addition to 12 other boxing contestants, 4 Hispanic boxers are participating in the Mark Burnett Productions, DreamWorks Television and Rogue Marble joint production.  Sugar Ray Leonard and Sylvester will be involved as mentors and hosts.

Univision.com has achieved Media Rating Council (MRC) Accreditation for its internet audience measurements.  This is the first time a Spanish-language website has received the recognition from the Ernst & Young-run MRC audit.  (In order to be approved the site needs to adhere to the council's Minimum Standards for Media Rating Research and the Measurement Guidelines of the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB).
