Good Morning.  It's Friday, December 15, 2006, and this is your first early morning Multi-Cultural briefing.

HISPANIC MARKET:

 

Latin Force LLC and Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group are partnering to purchase U.S. Hispanic marketing agencies. Although the amount of financing was not announced, the capital will be used to find and acquire small firms with $5+ million in revenue who focus on Hispanic PR, Web, grassroots marketing, and special events marketing.

Low power TV station WBWT/Milwaukee has launched as an Azteca America affiliate. The second Spanish-language station in the state, WBWT will include novelas, news, sports, entertainment, talk shows, and more around the clock. The station's owner, California-based Bustos Media LLC, also owns the other Spanish-language station, WDDW-FM.

 

U.S. Hispanic ad agencies are certainly growing at a fast clip with double-digit increases already this year. Hispanic advertisers' have also reached farther into the general market and English-dominant Hispanics arenas, beyond the Spanish-language advertising mainstays. Hispanic online spending reached close to $150 million already as compared to $100 million in 2005. In response, Hispanic agencies such as Dieste, Zubi, Grupo Gallegos, and others have added new online account groups or dedicated personnel according to Ad Age. Hispanic agencies are also starting to pick up general market assignments such as La Comunidad's work for Remy Martin and Machado Garcia-Serra's assignment with Florida Power & Light on general market communications.

LATAM MARKET:

 

Miami-based Caracol TV International has sold the broadcasting rights and format for Colombian series Without Breasts there is no Paradise (yes, that really is the show's name) to Spain's Telecinco. The series is the distributor's highest selling program lately with sales in more than 25 Latin American and European countries and regional cable systems. Talks are also underway for Italian, Russian, and U.S. versions.

 

AFRICAN AMERICAN MARKET:

 

BET J unveiled its special Holiday programming lineup for the 2006 Holiday season. Here's a holiday sampling of their contemporary adult programming presents to you…

• BET J Specials include Najee: Sax in South Africa (Dec 24, 8p), Gerald Levert Special (Dec 24, 9p), A Soul Sessions Christmas (Dec 24, 10p), Last Call 2006! Top 50 Countdown (Dec 31, 8p), The Coolest Moments of 2006 (Jan 1, 7p).

INTERNATIONAL MARKET:

 

Joining the Nickelodeon's programming lineup in India this month is Go, Diego, Go! and Perman.

• A Nick Jr. original animated preschool spin-off series of Dora The Explorer, Go, Diego, Go will air Sundays (10a).
• Targeted to kids and tweens, Perman is an acquired animated series created by the Japanese team Fukko Fujio, which airs M-F (7p).  Perman revolves around the small group including two boys, a girl and a monkey who hare selected by the mysterious Super Perman to product their city.

 

EXECUTIVE MOVES:

 

Simon Cowell's Syco production house has named Simon Jones as SVP/Operations and International. In this newly created position, he will manage operations together with global TV format sales and auxiliary artist and format business development. Simon was recently with Fremantle Music TV as Managing Director and SVP/Talent, Worldwide Entertainment. He actually brokered the original U.K. Pop Idol and U.S. American Idol agreements between 19 Entertainment, Fremantle and BMG.

MTV India's Cyrus Oshidar has stepped down as SVP/Creative and Content, where for the last 10 years he oversaw and drove the creative vision across MTV India's MTV, Nickelodeon and VH1 channels.  Oshidar will serve as a Consultant for Contests2Win, an online contest and entertainment service, as well as joining its board.  Oshidar will also maintain a relationship with MTV India as a consultant on individual brand solutions and multi-platform communications projects. MTV has divvied up Oshidar's responsibilities to Ashish Patil who takes over as VP/Creative & Content and GM, MTV, Nina Jaipuria as VP and GM, Nickelodeon and Keertan Adyanthaya as VP and GM, VH1.

 

Ellis Entertainment named Sonia Ormaechea as Sales Director, Americas and Australasia. She was previously Parapiti Entertainment's Head/Sales and Acquisitions.
