Good morning. It's
Friday, April 1, 2005,
and this is your early morning
Kids!
briefing.
Discovery Kids Channel makes the most of April Fools Day with the
Skunked TV programming marathon, today 2-9p. These seven new
back to back episodes of the hidden camera/animal prank series, features
special appearances by teen singers JoJo and Katy Rose. Skunked TV
is hosted Madai Zaldivar and Chuck Cureau who pose as zookeepers,
tourists and the like to capture unsuspecting kids/adults in fun-loving
hoaxes. Skunked TV is produced by Spectrum Productions, with Guy
Nickerson serving as Executive Producer.
Sesame Street here in the US provides some of the funnier parodies of
many celebrities and things in the general culture (Polly Darton, Bruce
Stringbean, Don Music, game show host Guy Smiley) while conveying some
important skills like counting, the alphabet, rhyming and
socializing. Similarly, Plaza Sesamo following along those
lines will offer up a Muppet parody of the Telenovela
format. The Plaza Sésamo Muppets, Abelardo, Pancho and Lola
will appear in Telenovela parodies where they will positively demonstrate
emotions and help children understand them. This season of Plaza
Sésamo (65 episodes), which features a new show open, debuts in April on
Televisa Niños. Segments include: When she isn't getting phone
calls, Lola becomes increasingly upset… until Eduardo Santamarina
(popular Telenovela actor) drops by and tells her that her phone has been
unplugged. Other celebrity guests include: Latin American soccer
player Jorge Campos, Daniela Aedo, Sebastian Gonzalez
"Chamagol," Andrea Legarreta, Danna Paola, Adal Ramones and
Marco Antonio Regil among others will make appearances throughout the new
season. Additionally, this season will feature new regional
live action and animated films, produced by local companies from
throughout Latin America including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and
Venezuela highlighting the cultural diversity of the region. Plaza
Sésamo is a co-produced by Sesame Workshop, Discovery Kids, Mexico
producer/broadcaster Televisa, and US broadcaster TeleFutura.
Additionally, Univision will now be airing the series in Puerto
Rico.
What teen doesn't have generalized angst and the feeling they look
different from the rest of the crowd, maybe focusing on one specific
trait or another, say skin, nose or bad breath? Well, in Phil
Hester and Andy Kuhn's comic bookFirebreather, published by
Image Comics, Duncan Rosenblatt doesn't just feel these things he is,
well, let put it this way; Duncan is a half-human and half-dragon, who
lives in the suburbs. His parents are divorced and his folks want
different things for him in life; Duncan's Mom wants him to go to a good
college, while his 300 foot reptilian monster dad what him to conquer the
Earth. All of that said, Variety reports that Nickelodeon
Movies and Paramount are looking to acquire the rights to adapt
Firebreather into a feature film.
Nickelodeon Australia has launched a nationwide search for
an upbeat Aussie family, idiosyncrasies and personality to burn,
to be immortalized in a new cartoon series. The winning
family will star a series of cartoons created by Nickelodeon Australia
and will air on the channel from October 2005. Some storylines will
be adapted and drawn from the family's experiences but all will deal with
the quirky, unexpected moments of everyday life. The search will
continue across Australia throughout April and May, with ‘Nick Takes Over
…' events held in Geelong, Melbourne, Ballarat, Newcastle, Canberra,
Penrith and Sydney, where Search for the NickToon Family scouts will
target prospective candidates. K5-14 can enter their family at
www.nicktoonfamily.com.au, where they'll be asked to outline who makes up their
family (people & pets), and to tell a weird short story about the
family. The winning family will be announced in June 2005. In
addition to the humorous side of the project, the channel and creatives
will also be looking to present a picture of a modern Australian family,
which is a very different type of family that existed in the country even
5-10 years ago.

Friday Fun Fact: Massachusetts first
cultivated its own watermelon in 1629. In those days, nothing was wasted:
The rind was pickled, the juice was drunk, the seeds were toasted for
snacks, and the flesh was savored. As far as seed spitting
contests, there is no record of such an activity in 1629.
Answer to Yesterday's Trivia
Question:Do you remember the name of the
local newspaper on Green Acres? HOOTERVILLE WORLD
GUARDIAN. Kudos to: Molly Antonangeli-Brighter Minds Children's

Today's Trivia Question:
The animated campaign was created in 1960 by the Bauer & Tripp ad
agency and ran for about five years. It included a singing boy and his
girlfriend, and of course the product. Chances are you haven't seen the
ad in a very long time, and yet you can probably remember most of the
jingle. And remember - you too can whistle by blowing through a candy
box. (click
