It's Friday, December 1, 2006, and this is your first early morning Multi-Cultural briefing. HISPANIC MARKET: For the fourth consecutive sweep period, Univision finished as the 5th broadcast network in primetime among all A18-49, according to Nielsen's NTI ratings (11/02/06-11/29/06). The network's 8pm novela, La Fea Mas Bella (The Prettiest Ugly Girl), placed Univision as the #4 network among All A18-34 Monday through Friday in its time period. As for a sampling of local market rankings, LA's KMEX was #1 in the market among A18-49, in Primetime, Daytime, Early and Late News, and Total Day. San Francisco's KDTV was also #1 for A18-49 (tie) in Daytime and Early News. More November Sweeps info … TeleFutura double digit growth during the current November Sweep period versus last year with its A18-49 audience growing by +61% in primetime from 337,000 to 543,000, according to Nielsen's NHTI ratings (11/2/06-11/28/06, Mon-Sun 7-11p). Some of the highlights of the sweep period for the network include the November 5 airing of its Confesiones De Un Rey: Vicente Fernandez special to 1.5 million Hispanic Viewers (2+) and 1 million Hispanic A18-49. TeleFutura's movie showings of Jurassic Park on November 5 and The Mummy on November 9 (both aired as part of Cine De Las Estrellas) delivered 1.16 million and just under 1 million Hispanic A18-49 viewers, respectively. AFRICAN AMERICAN MARKET: Starz InBlack's weekly late-night 30-minute original series, B Side, returns for a second season at 11p on December 4. The show features an eclectic mix of original shorts, uncensored music videos, provocative animation and comedy. The animated B and Melyssa Ford (BET Style) return as hosts. Get a sneak peak at Black Family Channel's new series, 85 South Gospel Street on December 2 at 730p. Hosted by urban contemporary gospel artists Deitrick and Damita Haddon, this inspirational variety show features seasoned as well as new Gospel artists. The regular program schedule will debut on December 10 at 630p. Some of the featured artists are: Myron Butler & Levi, Kim Burrell, and others. Allstate and Toyota are ringing in the season as premium sponsors of TV One's special holiday programming. The former will sponsor Tis the Season: A Holiday Celebration on December 10 at 8p and Turn Up the Heat with G. Garvin at 10p. Toyota is also sponsoring the Tis the Season special as well as Ray Charles Celebrates a Gospel Christmas on December 10 at 9p. In addition, both Allstate and Toyota are sponsoring TV One's sitcom episode lineup, the Merry Merry Marathons of Christmas, scheduled for three consecutive Saturdays from noon-10p beginning December 9. INTERNATIONAL MARKET: Belgium's Telenet Group Holding has signed a non-binding letter of intent to buy its peer UPC from Liberty Global. The $246.8 million deal is expected to close by the end of 2006. Liberty Global holds a 28.07% controlling interest in Telenet. UPC Belgium has 125,000 subscribers. ITV's distribution unit Granada International signed a major deal with Irish commercial broadcaster TV3. TV3 has signed a renewal on their output agreement that includes programming such as Coronation Street, Emmerdale and I'm A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here!, along with other U.K. and U.S. reality, drama and TV films. In addition, Granada International has sold the latest series of its factual entertainment Hell's Kitchen USA to Singapore's Mediacorp at the Asia Television Forum. The ten episode series, starring chef Gordon Ramsay, will air on Channel 5 in Singapore later this year. Big Picture Entertainment inked a deal with Zinkia Entertainment to handle home entertainment rights in Spain for the pre-school animated series Pocoyo. Launch of the first Pocoyo DVDs is scheduled for spring 2007. Pocoyo is co-produced by Zinkia Entertainment and Granada International in association with Granada Kids and Cosgrove Hall. The 3D CGI series follows the adventures of a little boy with an insatiable curiosity for discovery. Buena Vista International Television-Asia Pacific inked a package deal with Indonesia's JAK-TV at the Asia TV Forum, which includes Grey's Anatomy (season 1 and 2), What About Brian, and Ghost Whisperer. The Jakarta terrestrial network is geared towards urban, upscale viewers. EXECUTIVE MOVES: FremantleMedia Licensing Worldwide (FLW) announced a series of new appointments and promotions within its U.K. licensing team.
