NBC is counting on its hit freshman drama, The Blacklist, to keep going strong – the net issued a full season two pickup the morning after the show’s fall finale on Monday. “The success of The Blacklist demonstrates that inspired storytelling is alive and well in broadcast television,” said NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt. Blacklist, NBC’s most-watched new drama in 19 years, returns with new episodes January 13 at 10p.

~ IN THE NEWS ~

CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker is planning big changes at the cable news net he’s headed for almost a year – starting with less hard news. In his first one-on-one interview since taking over, Zucker told Capital New York, “The goal for the next six months, is that we need more shows and less newscasts,” to attract “viewers who are watching places like Discovery and History and Nat Geo and A&E.”

FX Productions signed an overall deal with Louis CK and his company Pig Newton to develop and produce new series for FX. “Working with Louis C.K. has been one of the most rewarding and enjoyable experiences of my career,” said FX Networks and FX Productions CEO John Landgraf. The comedian’s comedy Louie, launching its fourth season in May 2014, landed FX its first Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy nom this year.

Ryan Murphy, co-creator of Glee, revealed via Twitter that there could be quite a few familiar faces on the show’s upcoming 100th installment. “ALL the Glee Originals received invites today to be in our 100th episode!” Murphy tweeted on Tuesday. The milestone ep of the music series airs Tuesday, March 18 at 8p.

Lisa Kennedy Montgomery, aka 1990s MTV VJ Kennedy, will co-host a show on Fox Business Network, where she was hired last year as a correspondent on talk show Stossel. The Independents will run Monday-Wednesday and on Fridays at 9p, starting December 9. FBN has been making waves lately, recently luring Maria Bartiromo from her long-time perch at CNBC.

Sportsman Channel has been focusing on social media, and the net reports their efforts are paying off. Facebook users grew by 77 percent in 11 months, pushing Sportsman past the 500,000 “like” mark. The M18-34 demo make up 43 percent of the men’s lifestyle network’s total Facebook “likes,” versus an average of 33 percent for the social networking site.

TV shows nominated for the Producers Guild of America awards include Breaking Bad (AMC), Downton Abbey (ITV/PBS), Game of Thrones (HBO), Homeland (Showtime) and House of Cards (Netflix) for drama, and 30 Rock (NBC), Arrested Development (Netflix; pending eligibility), The Big Bang Theory (CBS), Modern Family (ABC) and VEEP (HBO) for comedy. Awards will be handed out for these categories, as well as competition television, entertainment & talk, non-fiction (A&E‘s Duck Dynasty got a nod), sports, children’s and digital, in January.

Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers of Shondaland will be honored with The Directors Guild of America’s 2014 Diversity Award at the DGA Awards on Saturday, January 25. The award, for people making a difference by hiring women and minorities, has only been given out four times in the past.

~ COMING UP ~

To fill its The Voice void Monday nights, NBC is slotting two-hour American Ninja Warrior special, “U.S vs. Japan,” on January 13 at 8p, followed by two-hour editions of Hollywood Game Night on January 20 and 27. A one-hour Game Night on February 3 will get a two-hour Sports Illustrated “swimsuit edition special” chaser.

An upcoming episode of CBS‘s Hawaii Five-0 tackles a shameful chapter in American history: Japanese internment during World War II. “I applaud our producers for tackling a topic that goes beyond crime,” said cast member Daniel Dae Kim of the episode, airing Friday, December 13 at 9p.

Science Channel offers spectacular views of Comet ISON from observatories across Earth on Super Comet ISON 2013. The Discovery Canada production premieres Saturday, December 7 at 10p.

Netflix is debuting its first original series for kids, DreamWorks Animation‘s Turbo FAST, on Tuesday, December 24. Five episodes will be available for streaming, with more premiering over 2014.

~ RETURNING SERIES ~

Showtime is bringing back Inside Comedy for a third season. Jimmy Fallon, Bette Midler and Dick Van Dyke are among those who will be featured in the docu-series from Steve Carell‘s Carousel Productions, premiering Sunday, February 2 at 11p.

Season 29 of MTV‘s Real World, dubbed Real World Ex-Plosion, debuts with seven single strangers. In a few weeks, they get more than they’d bargained for when the group is joined by the exes of several roommates, a first for the show. Debut episode airs Wednesday, January 15 at 10p.
