You made it to season two – but not on Lifetime. The Greg Berlanti psychological drama, which had been renewed for a second season in July, will move to Netflix for its sophomore run. Season one will be available on the streamer starting December 26.
Struggling conservative media entities TheBlaze and CTRV are merging to form Blaze Media, a company ”as broad and ideologically diverse as the audiences we serve,” said TheBlaze founder Glenn Beck. “Our hosts will have differences, but we share a common belief in free expression, honest discourse and a society founded in the principles of the Bill of Rights.”
”When Chip and Joanna Gaines left HGTV, it sucked all the air out of my lungs,” admitted Discovery Inc. CEO David Zaslav at the 46th UBS Global Media and Communications Conference on Monday. ”I couldn’t take my eyes off the two of them.” The Fixer Upper stars announced their exit shortly before the close of Discovery’s acquisition of HGTV owner Scripps Networks Interactive but are partnering with Discovery for their own TV network. ”We can’t forget that in the content business we’re really about stories and people,” said Zaslav, who had a hand in negotiating the deal with the star couple.
Television remains the most preferred platform for getting news, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center. Among those surveyed, 44% said they preferred news updates on TV versus 34% who would rather get news online, 14% who said via radio and 7% who opted for print. Among those who prefer reading the news, 8% of A18-49 respondents chose newspapers while 76% read online; among those 50+, 32% read the paper and 43% go online for their news fix.
Starz acquired eight-episode Dublin Murders from Fremantle. Psychological thriller starring Killian Scott (C.B. Strike) and Sarah Greene (Penny Dreadful) comes from series creator and writer Sarah Phelps (The Causal Vacancy).
Jeopardy! has launched an interactive fan experience. In ”All-Stars Fantasy League Sweepstakes,” viewers can pick their own team of All-Stars through December 31 and track their progress during the competition, with a chance to win an adventure on Lindblad Expeditions. Lindblad has been partnering with the game show since 2005.
Walt Disney Direct-to-Consumer and International inked a deal to license its new syndicated daytime talk show hosted by Tamron Hall in 24 Hearst Television markets for fall 2019. These stations will join the previously announced ABC Owned Television Stations Group as part of the 2019 fall lineup, bringing the show’s reach to 50% of U.S. television households, including eight of the top 10 markets.

National Geographic ordered scripted series Barskins, based on the 2016 novel by Annie Proulx. Ten-episode drama from Fox 21 Television Studios was created by Elwood Reid (The Chi), who will also serve as showrunner and exec producer.
Samantha Bee (Full Frontal with Samantha Bee) announced new production company Swimsuit Competition, aimed at creating amusing original digital content from people flying under the radar (“they’ll even consider working with men”). The company launches with a first-look deal with TBS, and Kristen Everman (Full Frontal) as Head of Development.
Limited series The Dolls is in development at HBO, with Laura Dern (Big Little Lies) and Issa Rae (Insecure) attached to star and exec-produce. Project inspired by the real-life1983 riots over (!) Cabbage Patch dolls comes from Jaywalker Pictures.
Bobby Flay has signed a new three-year exclusive deal with Food Network. The pact includes more episodes of current prime-time culinary competition series, Beat Bobby Flay, along with a new project, The Flay List (wt), featuring the chef alongside his daughter Sophie, set to premiere in spring 2019.
Supernatural drama The Outsider, based on the Stephen King bestseller, landed a series order at HBO. Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline) will star in and produce the project from Richard Price (The Night Of), Jack Bender (Mr. Mercedes), Aggregate Films, Temple Hill Entertainment and MRC.

Grace and Frankie returns to Netflix for season five on Friday, January 18. Among the guest stars this go-round is RuPaul.
Greece is the word: MTV’s Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club is set to debut Tuesday, January 8, at 8p, after a sneak peek intro on January 1. Docu-series follows the Mean Girls star and one-time tabloid regular as she runs a new club in Mykonos, Greece.
Season two of truTV’s Jon Glaser Loves Gear bows Wednesday, January 9, at 10:30p. Joining the hybrid scripted-reality comedy series are Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) and Christine Taylor (Search Party).
Elite rooftops and exterior oases are the goal of new Bravo design series Backyard Envy, premiering Thursday, January 17,, at 10p. Each episode features full outdoor renovations, with a crew juggling tight deadlines and multiple clients.
NBC’s Elvis All-Star Tribute (formerly The 50th Anniversary of the Elvis Comeback Special) will air Sunday, February 17. Blake Shelton (The Voice) is set as host; other musicians taking part in the special will be announced in 2019. NBC aired the King’s1968 comeback special 50 years ago this week.
Comedy Central set the lineup for its January Stand-Up Month, featuring specials that will air consecutive Fridays at 11p. First up: Ron Funches: Giggle Fit on January 4. The net’s digital series, Comedy Central Stand-Up Featuring, spotlighting new talent, premieres January 8 on YouTube, Facebook Watch, Twitter and Instagram.

Decades Network kicks off the New Year with ”A Toast to Twilight,” a 5-day event celebrating The Twilight Zone (1959-1964) starting Monday, December 31, at 12p. Included will be rarely seen one-hour episodes from the series’ fourth season.
Cozi TV is adding The Office to its lineup starting Tuesday, January 1, at 10p. The 2005-2013 comedy will air in a two-hour block.
The E.W. Scripps Company closed its acquisition of digital services company Triton, which serves the digital audio marketplace through a software-as-a-service business-to-business revenue model. “The Triton acquisition aligns with the Scripps strategy of fueling company growth by being opportunistic in the marketplace and responsive to the changing needs of media consumers,” said Adam Symson, Scripps president and CEO.
Multi-platform music network Music Choice is airing the sophomore edition of “Sounds of the Seasons Live,” featuring live holiday performances, interviews, and holiday-themed games.
As the holidays approached, the average percentage of fraudulent global programmatic ad traffic grew from 11.6% in October to 14.2% in November. The dat, from traffic from over 640 million unique users, was analyzed by ad-verification company Fraudlogix.

Boosted by mid-term elections and the Olympics, ad spending in 2018 rose 2%, to $79.1 billion, according to GroupM. TV spending will inch up .5% in 2019, projects the agency, which also forecasts next year as the first in which digital spend ($79.8 billion, up a projected 9%) will top TV spend.
While noting the importance of online video and television combined to boost brand building, Zenith forecasts linear TV’s share of ad spend will drop to 29.9% by 2021. “Brands are transforming their businesses to take advantage of the new digital opportunities available to them,” said Vittorio Bonori, Global Brand President, Zenith. “Better segmentation and targeting, personalized creative and direct transactional relationship with consumers are combining to drive brand growth.”

Live TV streaming service fubo TV launched in Spain, making it the first virtual MVPD available in both North America and Europe. Spain is one of the world’s fastest-growing pay TV markets with OTT expected to boost the segment 50% by 2022, according to PwC.
The Carl Jackson Podcast is now available on Spotify. The podcast will also debut as a TV on TheGrid Network in January, airing Sundays.
TiVo’s “Tune-in Conversion Analysis from Targeted Audience Delivery” report analyzes the promotional campaigns of new shows that were part of the broadcast Fall Premiere season and ranks the shows that drove the highest tune-in conversion. As shows went to episodes three and four, it appeared shows that invest in long-term promotional campaigns see results. “It was important to show the slight changes from episodes 1 to episodes 4, in order to see the effects on audience retention that promotions can have,” Walt Horstman, SVP of Advanced Media and Advertising at TiVo, tells Cynopsis. NBC’s Manifest moved up to the top slot for episodes three and four, driven by strong Live+7 ratings. CBS’s Magnum P.I. dropped out of the top five but is still performing above average for tune-in, indicating holding power. Manifest was followed in tune-in conversion by NBC’s New Amsterdam, CBS’s FBI, CBS’s God Friended Me and CBS’s Murphy Brown.

Opposite football on NBC, The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Holiday Special on ABC was Sunday’s #1 entertainment program in the 10p hour, with 3.3 million total viewers and 0.9/4 among A18-49, up 80% week to week in the demo for a new season high but down from last year’s 5 million/1.5 demo rating on CBS.
Among the 2018 highlights for Telemundo: The network delivered the youngest audience of all broadcast nets regardless of language, including the largest composition of A18-34 in English or Spanish. Telemundo is also seeing record ratings for its local newscasts, in part thanks to the launch of a midday newscast.
