11/28/17: CBS gives full season orders to Man With a Plan and Superior Donuts, but not Wisdom of the Crowd

CBS won’t be picking up additional episodes of Wisdom of the Crowd. The crime drama, averaging a 1.0 rating among A18-49 and 7.4 million total viewers, is the lowest-rated freshman drama on the network, and is set to wrap production on its 13-episode order in mid-December. The remaining 4 episodes are slated to continue in the show’s Sunday time slot. The network is currently investigating allegations of sexual misconduct against series star Jeremy Piven. CBS Monday night comedies Man With a Plan and Superior Donuts got better news, landing full season orders.
Fergie has been tapped to host FOX’s new primetime singing competition, The Four: Battle for Stardom. The six-episode series begins airing Thursday, January 4 at 8p. “This is a unique and modern show format that I believe will set the standard for the next generation of singing competition series on TV,” said the solo artist and Black Eyed Peas singer.
NBC’s Saturday Night Live rolls into the holiday season with three back-to-back shows. Saorise Ronan (Lady Bird) makes her hosting debut on December 2 and will be joined by musical guest U2. James Franco returns for his fourth stint as host on December 9, with musical guest SZA. And comedian Kevin Hart goes for round 3 as host on December 16, with Foo Fighters performing for the seventh time.
NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises and consumer intelligence firm Maru/Matchbox announced a partnership and a first for the Hispanic market: a combined insight community that spans variables such as origin, language in household, and acculturation level. “Our business is built on creating content tailored for the U.S. Hispanic audience and to do that successfully, we need to have the most profound insights,” said Lia Silkworth, SVP, Insights and Consumer Development, Telemundo. “MiTelemundo is part of our mission to uncover those insights around our audiences.”
Latino Public Broadcasting announced funding for eleven new projects through its 2017 Public Media Content Fund, an initiative that invites independent producers to submit proposals on Latino-themed programs, series and digital projects. This year’s awardees include eight films and three digital media projects. Highlights include a behind-the-scenes look at the making of John Leguizamo’s Broadway hit, Latin History for Morons: The Road to Broadway; Semper Fidelis, about a Marine veteran’s battle to reunite her family after the deportation of her undocumented husband; and Decade of Fire, a look back at the 1970s, when Bronx was burning.

HDNET Movies premieres 2015 Dan Rather biopic Truth on Sunday, December 3 at 6:50p, with the newsman on hand to present the film. 
Anti-tobacco ads, warning smokers about the clear and present dangers of lighting up, are set to begin airing in television markets across the country. They’ll be paid for by cigarette manufacturers and must air for a year. The move follows a nine-month civil racketeering trial in the U.S. District Court and is part of a permanent injunction dating back to 2006.
