NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

 
YouTube may be headed toward a subscription-based ad-free model, according to CEO Susan Wojcicki. At the Code/Mobile conference she discussed the possibility and said, “Right now [YT] is ad-supported, which is great because it has enabled us to scale to a billion users, but there’s going to be a point where people don’t want to see the ads.” YT added a service for content creators to offer premium content behind a pay wall, but was reported unpopular and made little profit.
 
Vimeo
signed a deal with Cinedigm to bring releases from the distributor to the Vimeo On Demand catalog, kicking off with My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks. “Cinedigm controls an impressive catalog of over 52,000 films and television series from which we’ll curate titles for our fast growing, passionate audiences,” Vimeo Vice President of Content Acquisitions and Business Development Sam Toles said. Cinedigm will release a number of films exclusively and non-exclusively over the next year.
 
Portal A and Niche announced a partnership to expand PA’s talent across social platforms and integrate Niche’s 5,000 creators into its programming and distribution platforms. “In the past year, we’ve helped over 100 brands to generate viral micro-advertisements within our network of creators,” Niche co-founder Darren Lachtman said. “In partnering with Portal A, we’re going beyond shorter-form content to embrace new and more nuanced storytelling opportunities.” PA and Niche partnered in a recent campaign for nonprofit One City.

British TV streaming service Acorn TV will add new programming starting Nov. 3 including Nixon’s The One, drama Girl Number 9, Drop Dead Gorgeous, the comedy Outnumbered (series 1-5), sitcom The Royal Bodyguard, the first two series The Clinic, documentary How To Look At A Painting and the BBC’s The Hour. Acorn TV content can be viewed at Acorn.TV, via its Apple app and on its Roku channel.

YouTube Beauty celeb and entrepreneur Michelle Phan is expected to reel in a whopping $84 million in revenue from her Ipsy subscription service alone, according to ReCode. Founded in 2011, the service has 700,000 subscribers who dish out $10 a month for her Glam Bags – makeup samples and full-sized beauty products curated by Phan and her team of stylists, along with application videos.
 
Fandango debuted the final trailer for the The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 along with the launch of advance ticket sales, fan art contests and a chance to receive a free movie download of the previous movies in the series. When fans purchase a ticket in the first 24 hours of the campaign, they will be entered in a contest to attend the world premiere in London on Nov. 10. Fandango also rolled out the The Hunger Games Guide destination at Fandango.com/HungerGames, featuring exclusive clips, film facts, trailers, polls and more.
 

 
MOBILE GAMING + APPS
 

A+E NetworksFYI launched an app for the Apple TV in the U.S. The TV Everywhere app offers users access to full episodes and exclusive clips from FYI programming, including Married at First Sight, Tiny House Nation, Born to Style, Epic Meal Empire and more. A&E, History and Lifetime channels launched on the Apple TV last April.
 
Online family entertainment company DRIVER Digital channels Cool School and The Rundown! Are now available on Roku devices. Cool School has 72,000 subscribers, 52 million lifetime views and four million monthly views on YouTube, while The Rundown touts 75,000 subscribers, 25 million lifetime views and two million monthly views.
 
Feeln is now available on Apple TV. Users will also have access to the new version of the animated series from the 1980s, Rainbow Brite, on Nov. 6. The platform also features more than 100 original animated, documentary and narrative features released on a weekly basis.

SpotXchange
and partner Audience Partners rolled out a patented voter-targeted digital advertising platform in time for midterm elections. The platform uses first-party mailing address data to create anonymous online targeting profiles, so that advertisers and media planners can reach Audience Partners’ 150 million voter profiles across SpotXChange’s 95 million users in the U.S.

EXEC MOVES

IMH the parent company of Vindico, Specific Media, Myspace and Xumo  announced new appointments yesterday. Jeff Collins joins IMH as Chief Revenue Officer from a 20-year stint at Turner Broadcasting. Jon Shulz was promoted to Chief Marketing Officer. Jason Knapp was hired as Chief Product Officer, and Linh Chung was named Chief Information Officer. Chung previously led Technical Operations at Myspace.

Fox Networks Group (FNG) promoted Toby Byrne to President, Advertising Sales. He was previously the President of Sales at Fox Broadcasting.
