CBS set an arrival date for Late Late Show with James Corden: Monday, March 9. Corden succeeds Craig Ferguson as host. Ben Winston, currently an exec producer on UK’s The X Factor, is onboard as exec producer for his long-time friend and collaborator’s new gig; Nina Tassler, chairman, CBS Entertainment, promises “a creatively dynamic and very energetic host/producer combination.” Rotating guest hosts will fill in after Ferguson signs off December 19.

IN THE NEWS

Not so fast, said the FCC. The regulatory commission suspended its reviews to determine if the $45 billion Comcast/Time Warner Cable and $48.5 billion AT&T/DirecTV mergers are in the public interest, saying nine content companies failed to provide adequate information about their confidential deals with cable providers. Without the data, requested by companies including Dish Network and Writers Guild of America, commenters can’t “meaningfully” participate in the review, said the FCC. The decision “doesn’t change our view that we’ll be able to get the deal approved and closed in the first half of 2015,” said AT&T senior executive VP and CFO John Stephens in an earnings call.

Broadcasters won another big round against Aereo. A U.S. District judge issued an injunction Thursday prohibiting the service from “streaming, transmitting, retransmitting, or otherwise publicly performing any Copyrighted program over the Internet.” One clause, specifying streaming was enjoined “while the Copyrighted Programming is still being broadcast,” leaves the issue of time-shifted delivery up in the air. The Supreme Court ruled in June that Aereo’s grabbing of over-the-air TV signals for its subscribers was a violation of public performance rights.

NBCUniversal agreed to a $6.4 million settlement in a class action lawsuit filed by unpaid interns at Saturday Night Live and other NBC shows. Attorneys alleged NBCUni violated federal Fair Labor Standards and New York Labor Law. Court papers were filed Wednesday.

After a report emerged alleging reality show matriarch June Shannon is linked romantically to a man convicted of child molestation, TLC issued a statement casting doubt on the future of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. “We are very concerned about this new information and are reassessing the future of the series,” said the net. Season four ended August 14.

Pivot wants to take viewers for a ride. The Participant Media net and its digital social action platform, TakePart.com, are teaming with on-demand ride share app Lyft to encourage riders to #JustVote in the mid-term election November 4 by offering new Lyft users a freebie. “If you don’t get to the polls to vote your voice doesn’t count,” said TakePart Live co-host Jacob Soboroff.“I’m excited to have Lyft on board to close the last mile so there’s no excuse.”

British comedian and writer Matt Lucas (Come Fly with Me) will host the International Emmy Awards gala. Event takes place November 24 at NYC’s Hilton New York Hotel.

Fan voting began yesterday for Logo TV’s “New Now Next Awards.” Among the TV nominees: Transparent, Looking and Broad City. Event premieres on Logo TV Sunday, December 7 at 8p and on MTV December 12 at 7p.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

ABC set a deal with Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives) to develop an adaptation of Phantom of the Opera. Set in today’s cutthroat music business, the drama would have music incorporated into storylines. Cherry and Sabrina Wind are exec producing through Cherry/Wind Productions. The net also gave a put pilot commitment with penalty to Family Practice, a medical comedy from Simon Stephenson (Eleventh Hour). Stephenson will write, as well as exec produce with The Neighbors creator Dan Fogelman.

A workplace comedy inspired by the 2005 film Hitch, starring Will Smith, won a script commitment at Fox, with Smith among the exec producers. Fox also landed sci-fi drama pilot Frankenstein with a put pilot commitment; Rand Ravich (Crisis) will write.

NYTVF launched NYTVF Productions, formed to partner with independent television artists and help guide them to series orders. Onboard as initial development partners: A&E, Fox, History and indie distributor/multi-channel net The Orchard.

Paramount Television and Anonymous Content announced a two-year, first-look deal with writer/producer Kyle Killen (Awake) and Chapter Eleven, his production partnership with Scott Pennington former VP, scripted programming at AMC.

Riverdale, home of Archie, Betty and Veronica, has a script deal plus penalty at Fox. Drama from Warner Bros. Television with Berlanti Productions explores the twisted side of small-town life, via the Archie Comics characters.

Call for Submissions: Cynopsis is producing its annual Holiday Programming Guide, which comes out on November 24 and will be sent to all Cynopsis and Cynopsis Kids subscribers. If your network has holiday-themed programming airing from November 24 through December 31, please send your listings to Lynn Leahey at [email protected] no later than Monday November 17. Please include the following information, listed by date: title and type of program (i.e. series, special, documentary, movie or holiday-themed episode), and the time each program will air on that date. A confirmation email will be sent following each submission from Lynn (if you don’t receive a confirmation email, please resubmit).

IFC will again serve as TV partner for the October 25 “Festival Supreme,” founded by Jack Black and Tenacious D, at LA’s Shrine Expo Hall & Grounds. “This is a great event that looks a lot like IFC on a stage, because it shares our comedic sensibilities and so much great IFC talent,” said Blake Callaway, IFC’s EVP of marketing and digital media. The net created promo spots to air on IFC and IFC.com.

The premiere date for Reelz special event Living with the Jacksons, about members of the famed music family, has changed from November 18 to early 2015. ID Productions is producing.

GSN went to the vaults for footage of Rosie O’Donnell and Arsenio Hall on the 1986 version of syndicated Crosswits. The first game show appearances by the stars (O’Donnell was billed as a “rising new comedian”) air Sunday, October 26 at 11p and 11:30p.

NUVOtv and FUSE tapped enough material from a recent stand-up show benefitting victims of Hurricane Odile to produce two specials, airing Saturday, October 25 at 10p. ADVERTISING

National cable nets had a $9.6 billion haul in the most recent Upfront market, down 6 percent versus last year and the first year-to-year dip since 2009-2010, according to the Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau. The trade group pinned the drop on advertisers hesitancy to commit budget dollars before marketing initiatives had been decided. “Several big-spending advertisers stated they anticipated spending fewer ad dollars in this year’s Upfront, and nearly all cited increased flexibility as the reason why,” said CAB president and CEO Sean Cunningham.

DISTRIBUTION AND CARRIAGE

CBS Studios International and Sky struck a licensing deal for exclusive UK broadcast rights to freshman drama Madam Secretary. The show will premiere on Sky Living.
