IN THE NEWS

Noah pressure: Tonight’s late night launch of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah in the host seat will be simulcast across Comedy Central’s Viacom cousins, including MTV, BET, CMT, TV Land, Nick at Nite and VH1, among others. First guest is Kevin Hart.

It appears Game of ThronesJon Snow may not be most sincerely dead. Despite the popular character’s shocking death at the end season five, actor Kit Harington was spied on the HBO drama’s Belfast set in costume. Harington also was recently quoted as saying, “Let’s just say that Game of Thrones will remain a part of my life for a while.”

ABC News was quick to apologize on Friday after it came to light that a videotaped deposition taken during O.J. Simpson’s civil suit, which the net promoted as “exclusive,” had in fact already aired on NBC. “Partying like it’s 1999! Check out #Dateline logo from first time we aired the tapes! #retro,” tweeted NBC. “We learned this morning portions did air 15 years ago,” said ABC News. “We apologize for the mistake.”

The 2016 KTLA Rose Parade broadcast will be the last for Bob Eubanks (The Newlywed Game) and Stephanie Edwards (Everyday), after runs of 38 and 35 years, respectively. “We believe the timing is right,” said Edwards. “It’s always good to leave before you’re asked to do so.” SoCal’s KTLA has been broadcasting the parade since 1948.

COMING UP

No one can say The Africa Channel doesn’t have a sense of humor. The net launched daily morning show, Expresso, today – the same day South African native Trevor Noah takes his Daily Show seat – and TAC has a little fun with a Daily Show spoof. Original is here.

Up’s acquisition of all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls means lots of Lorelai. An all-day marathon of the family drama starring Lauren Graham launches Sunday, October 4 at 10a; starting the next night, the series begins back-to-back airings Monday-Friday. #GilMOREGirls will, of course, be supported by an extensive social media campaign.

getTV is expanding its “Saturday Showdown” weekend block of western series with the additions of The Tall Man, Whispering Smith and Laredo starting at noon on Saturday, October 3.

RETURNING SERIES

Season three of Bounce TV comedy Family Time launches Tuesday, October 6, at 10p. Among the guest stars this season are Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child), rappers Salt n’ Pepa and comedian/actor Rodney Perry.

The season two premiere of Showtime’s The Affair is available now across multiple platforms ahead of its linear premiere Sunday, October 4 at 10p, including a TV-14-rated version on YouTube and SHO.com.

ABC renewed summer series Mistresses for season four. Jennifer Esposito, who signed a one-year deal last year, will not be returning.

ADVERTISING

Food for thought regarding the ad blocking debate: “Consumers are getting used to choosing when they want to watch ads and when they do not,” says BTIG managing director and media analyst Richard Greenfield in a blog post. “They can engage with ads in their scroll on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram if they want, with advertisers only paying when the consumer is interested.TV needs to adapt to the new realities of consumer expectations and the alternatives presented to brands. Forcing ads on consumers is a losing strategy.

CASTING

Tim Matheson (Animal House) and Camila Banus (Days of Our Lives) landed roles in FX drama pilot Snowfall, set in 1980s LA.

CASTING CALL: Casting Animal Planet’s "My Cat From Hell" in Los Angeles and NYC area. Looking for cats that are aggressive, destructive, truly obnoxious, outrageous or bizarre.
