09/18/18: Dasani Water entered a partnership with the PGA TOUR

Good morning. It’s Tuesday September 18, 2018 and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

DASANI Sparkling is finally diving into sports courtesy of a new deal between the Coca-Cola Company and the PGA TOUR. The brand will now serve as the TOUR’s official Sparkling Water and officially launch in conjunction with next week’s TOUR Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. To celebrate the relationship, DASANI Sparkling debuted a golf-themed spot, set around East Lake’s iconic water obstacles. And the product will also be featured in the DASANI Sparkling seating sections, located at the 1st tee and 18th green.
 
“DASANI Sparkling is excited to make a splash at the storied East Lake property,” said Brad Spickert, Senior Vice President of Hydration, DASANI. “The PGA TOUR continues to be one of sport’s most celebrated brands, and the TOUR Championship one of golf’s most prestigious events. ON THE AIR

Week two of the NFL season saw upticks for all three networks carrying the league. CBS Sports’ Week 2 coverage of The NFL on CBS on Sunday delivered its best opening NFL doubleheader game rating in three years and is the highest-rated game of the day on any network with an average overnight household rating/share of 14.0/28, up 1% from last year in the metered markets. For the second week in a row, CBS’ NFL pregame show, The NFL Today drew a double-digit ratings increase, up 14%, with a rating/share of 2.5/7 over. last year.
 
On NBC, the Giants/Cowboys on Sunday Night Football ranked as Sunday’s top primetime show with a 13.8/24 in overnight (not including digital, excluding Raleigh-Durham), up 10% from last year’s Week 2 score and marking the best Week 2 overnight for NBC SNF since 2015. 
 
Around the dial on FOX, the network reports that its singleheader drew a 10.9/23 in overnight numbers, up 18% over last year’s equivalent.  
 
CBS Sports announced its SEC on CBS football game for Sept. 29, with Georgia/Tennessee squaring off at 3:30p. Brad Nessler, Gary Danielson and reporter Jamie Erdahl call the contest from Sanford Stadium in Athens.
 
ESPN, in collaboration with YouTube Originals, will air all eight episodes of Best Shot, the documentary series featuring ESPN analyst Jay Williams, today on ESPN2, beginning at 8p. Williams, a New Jersey native and former college and NBA star, served as a mentor to the Newark Central High School basketball team and the series details Central’s 2017-2018 season, as they fought through adversity and learned from their experiences, with guidance from Williams and LeBron James.

SiriusXM signed groundbreaking sports journalist Christine Brennan and former professional tennis player Rennae Stubbs to host a new weekly show that will air nationwide on the Dan Patrick Radio channel on channel 211. Game Changers, will be produced in collaboration with the Aurora Games and will debut on Sept. 19, running every Wednesday at 6p.
 
In other radio news, Premiere Networks announced the launch of two new programs as part of FOX Sports Radio’s weekday lineup. Straight Outta Vegas with RJ Bell, running Monday0Friday at 6p, marking the historic debut of the first-ever national daily radio show focused on sports betting. In addition, The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard & Rob Parker debuted as a weekday show from 7-10p.

All-time Premier League goal scoring leader Alan Shearer and Chelsea FC legend Paulo Ferreira will join the NBC Sports team in welcoming fans to the largest stateside Premier League event so far at the “Premier League Mornings Live” fan fest on Sept. 29 in DC. The event, hosted by the Premier League and NBC Sports, is the first in a series of full-day Premier League fan engagements this season which will bring “Premier League Mornings” to life and take place at Capitol View at 400 on N. Capitol Street. The event will also feature the Premier League trophy and club mascots including Arsenal FC’s Gunnersaurus, Brighton & Hove Albion FC’s Gully the Seagull, and Leicester City FC’s Filbert Fox. NBC Sports’ Premier League Mornings studio team of host Rebecca Lowe and analysts Robbie Earle, Kyle Martino, and Robbie Mustoe will broadcast live from the event beginning at 7a on NBCSN.
 
 
DIGITAL & STREAMING

DAZN hooked its on-air talent for the platform’s Matchroom boxing coverage ahead of its first live fight weekend on Saturday. MLB Network’s Brian Kenny will provide the play-by-play ringside along with boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard. Hosts will include NFL Network’s Kay Adams as the host and with Chris Mannix serving as host/analyst. LZ Granderson will be the ringside reporter.
 
Meanwhile, Bellator announced that Hawaii will host the homecoming of Ilima-Lei Macfarlane (8-as she puts her undefeated record and Bellator women’s flyweight title on the line against No. 1 contender Valerie Letourneau in the main event on Saturday, Dec. 15 LIVE on DAZN. The monumental event marks Bellator’s first trip to Hawaii and the first major MMA show to be held there since 2008.
 
The Caddie Network locked in a partnership with Loopers: The Caddie’s Long Walk, a soon-to-debut feature length documentary. The new media and marketing partnership includes several social media and marketing elements: sponsor integration; a social media fan promotion; exclusive content, including a Loopers “takeover” of TCN’s website during the 2018 Ryder Cup; and activation at film festivals, golf tournaments and other special events.
 
Ahead of the UEFA Champions League Group Stage, Bleacher Report is launching The Champions, a digital animated parody show with Champions League players (and their managers), all living under the roof of the same chateau.
 
 
ESPORTS

OpTic Gaming is teaming up with Singapore-based JET8 to launch OpTic Snap, described as a mobile social media app designed to connect OpTic’s fan community, aka the Greenwall. The OpTic Snap app allows the team’s fans to share their favorite moments in picture or video format across major social media platforms, and offers rewards for doing so, as they earn JETS currency for in-app likes, comments, and shares, which can then be redeem discount vouchers up to 20% off and official OpTic Gaming merchandise, including an OpTic Pro Hoodie, Player Jacket, Pterodactyl Scallop Tee, and more.
 
Upcoming esports event OP Live Dallas locked in its lineup of teams that will battle in the collegiate Overwatch tournament on Sept. 22. The tournament will progress through opening rounds, quarterfinals and semifinals, before culminating in the tournament finals and awards ceremony later in the day. Teams are set to include: Baylor University; Colorado State University; Mississippi State University; New Mexico State University; Oklahoma State University; Oklahoma University; Southern Methodist University; Texas Christian University; Texas Tech University; Texas Wesleyan University; University of Arkansas; University of Louisiana at Lafayette; University of Mississippi; University of North Texas; University of Texas Arlington; and University of Texas at Dallas.
 
UEFA is exploring options for the launch an official esports tournament that will take place during EURO 2020, requesting expressions of interest from firms who could “create, develop and operate an official esports tournament,” according to Inside World Football. “The selected organizer (if any) would be responsible for all aspects of the E-Sports Tournament including (but not limited to) defining the tournament format and rules, running the online qualification tournaments, organizing the physical event and managing all on-site operations, providing a live feed for broadcast of the tournament, and capturing and analyzing data.  The relevant advertising, marketing, promotion and operation of the E-Sports Tournament will be subject to UEFA’s approval and guidelines,” said UEFA.
 
Red Bull Media House is renewing ties with Acer for the duo’s content partnership, according to TEO. The agreement will include exclusive content production, product placements, event partnerships, and media activations. In addition, two documentaries, Prism and part two of Part of the Game are also in the works.
 
Riot Games offered a peek at its new venue in Seoul for the 2018 League of Legends World Championship. Dubbed LoL PARK, the arena will hold up to 500 spectators, house locker rooms for competing teams, and more with a soft opening slated for the World Championship play-in stage in October.
