Splash Page: A splash page is a preliminary webpage that precedes the page that the user has requested. Splash pages usually promote site features, provide advertising, or inform users of what kind of software or browser they need in order to view the rest of the site’s pages. Splash pages generally move on to the requested page after a set time period, or after a click.
Earlier this month, T-Mobile announced ‘One,’ an upcoming unlimited data plan selling for $70 per month (per line). But many consumers weren’t satisfied: The plan only covered 480p resolution video streaming (as opposed to HD video), and charged extra for effective mobile hotspot features. Well, T-Mobile heard customers’ complaints, and has now decided to make some revisions to their offering. But those revisions are a little complicated. Here goes: Starting in October, T-Mobile will begin offering unlimited hotspot data as part of the ‘One’ plan (though only at 512 Kbps – useful for checking email, but nothing more adventurous). And for those unsatisfied with low-res video, the telco will offer day-long HD “passes” for $3 per day. But if you’re willing to spend $95 per month on the newly announced ‘One Plus’ plan, you’ll get HD passes included without having to shell out the extra three bucks. (Though you will, oddly enough, have to manually activate the HD pass each day you want to use it.) Both One and One Plus will debut September 1.

In a recent eMarketer report, Clement Xue, Snapchat’s Director of Revenue Operations, revealed that Snapchat is aiming to roll out behavioral targeting capabilities for marketers, likely in Q3 of this year. According to Business Insider, Snapchat’s behavioral targeting offerings will only use data from users’ in-app activities. So, for instance, advertisers might target Snapchat users who consume a lot of football-related content by using categories such as “sports” or “football.” Snapchat won’t – at least for now – be targeting users based on their web browsing history, like Facebook does.
The cross-device advertising solutions company engage:BDR announced that it will acquire mydiveo, a talent discovery platform and creative social network that provides artists with a mobile portfolio to showcase their talent. engage:BDR says that the acquisition will allow its clients to directly access mydiveo’s premium ad inventory. engageBDR is spending $7.4 million on the acquisition.

Mediamorph, a company that provides cloud-based content management services, has raised $21.2 million in Series C financing. The round was led by Advance Vixeid Partners (the investment arm of Advance Publications and Conde Nast). The company also appointed three new members to its board: Nomi Bergman, President of Advance/Newhouse Partnership; and Barry Baker, Senior Adviser to Lee Equity Partners. Mediamorph’s platform provides tools to track content consumption, analyze data, and manage deals and content rights.
The video personalization platform IRIS.TV has partnered with Vemba, a premium video distribution and content discovery platform that enables content publishers to control the components of video distribution, ingestion and monetization. The partnership is designed to provide publishers with personalized content using both external and owned video content sources. Publishers will be able to control programming based on category, frequency, streaming position, and, soon, by device and by geo-location. According to the companies, the partnership will also arrange for the management of multiple branded content campaigns across networks.
Discovery Communications announced that SourceFedNerd, its nerd-friendly YouTube channel, has passed the one million subscriber mark. And Discovery also announced that the channel has hired Filup Molina, a writer, host and comedian, to join Sam Bashor and actress Whitney Moore as the channel’s third co-host. Molina has directed multiple videos featuring YouTube stars, which have appeared on programs such as NBC’s Caught on Camera with Nick Cannon and ABC’s Good Morning America.
Colin Cowherd, host of FOX Sports Radio and FS1’s The Herd, has launched a new sports website. TheHerdNow.com will serve as the digital home for content created and curated by Cowherd, including original video series, podcasts, news stories, and opinion pieces. TheHerdNow.com is a partnership between Cowherd, Red Seat Ventures, and Premiere Networks.

Crown Media Family Networks has named Sharmistha Chatterjee as its new Director of Social Media, reporting to Social Media VP Angela Megrey. Chatterjee will work with Megrey to develop and execute social media campaigns across several social media platforms. The buy-side advertising platform The Trade Desk has named Mark Kirschner as its new Chief Marketing Officer. A marketing veteran, Kirschner most recently served as VP and Chief Marketing Officer at eBay Enterprise.
