AwesomenessTV and DHX signed an original development and production agreement for content to air on Family Channel in Canada. In addition, DHX Television licensed three ATV series, AwesomenessTV, a sketch comedy on Nickelodeon US; reality series Make Me Over, hosted by YouTuber’s Bethany Mota and Ingrid Nilsen, and docu-series Cheerleaders, for Family Channel. “We are always looking for new opportunities to reach the Gen Z audience, whether it’s a new platform or a new territory…in this case it’s both,” said Kelly Day, Chief Digital Officer, AwesomenessTV.
Don’t underestimate the threat of cord cutters, warned BTIG’s Richard Greenfield in a in blog post Friday. “Consumer behavior is shifting rapidly and MVPDs are struggling to reposition their core video business fast enough to meet consumer demand, made that much more difficult by the complexity of their long-term programming agreements and far greater regulatory scrutiny,” said the media analyst. “The consumer must come first, not the business model, or MVPDs and their programming partners will undoubtedly suffer.”
Hearst Digital Studios launched two new web series through its partnership with AwesomenessTV. In Prank U, YouTube stars teach viewers how to pull off pranks. Scripted format The Honest Show Vine celeb Arielle Vandenberg. Hearst Corporation bought a 25 percent stake in ATV last December.
The YouTuber behind the largest dance channel, Dominic Sandoval or D-trix (2.4 million subscribers), teamed with Mountain Dew to help a fan ‘Kickstart’ his or her own YT stardom. D-trix made the announcement on Twitter video, inviting people to enter for a chance to dance with him on his Now Add a Dancer series.

Google will remove YouTube advertising inventory from its DoubleClick Ad Exchange by this year. “To continue improving the YouTube advertising experience for as many of our clients as possible, we’ll be focusing our future development efforts on the formats and channels used by most of our partners,” said Neal Mohan, Vice President of Display And Video Advertising, in a blog. “To enable that, as of the end of the year, we’ll no longer support the small amount of YouTube buying happening on the DoubleClick Ad Exchange.” YouTube’s TrueView format will be available to buy with DoubleClick Bid Manager.
