Good morning. It’s Thursday August 2, 2018 and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.

beIN SPORTS informed viewers on Comcast/Xfinity platforms that they have lost access to the network. This announcement comes four months after beIN SPORTS filed a carriage complaint against Comcast claiming violation of program carriage rules and the non-discrimination condition attached with the FCC’s approval of its purchase of NBCUniversal. The prior agreement expired on midnight Tuesday. According to local reports, the network had also not been able to lock in an extension with Verizon.
 
“We are deeply disappointed that despite our best efforts over the last year to resolve the situation, millions of Comcast Xfinity subscribers have lost access to the content they love.  We are happy to extend existing terms while we continue to negotiate, but unfortunately Comcast would rather continue to charge the same while taking away valuable and loved content from customers,” said Antonio Briceno, beIN SPORTS’ Deputy Managing Director for the US and Canada. “The truth is, we face a disheartening trend of media consolidation, where the big get bigger and innovative brands like ours that serve diverse audiences get pushed-out.  This is almost always to the detriment of consumers who end up paying the price. We hope it stops now.”
 
Comcast has denied the allegations in the FCC complaint and stated on Wednesday that beIN was seeking unreasonable terms for soccer games, a claim beIN later denied, and featured content that most of its subscribers don’t watch.
 
 
ON THE AIR

NFL Network delivers the 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony on Saturday at 7p from Canton, lining up Rich Eisen and Steve Mariucci as hosts for the programming. The 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame Class features Bobby Beathard, Robert Brazile, Brian Dawkins, Jerry Kramer, Ray Lewis, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens and Brian Urlacher. The network delivers Hall of Fame Saturdayat 6p, with Eisen, Mariucci, Michael Irvin, Kurt Warner, LaDainian Tomlinson and Terrell Davis, and reporter Steve Wyche. During the show, the trailer announcing the subjects to be featured on the upcoming eighth season of the NFL Films-produced documentary series A Football Life will also air.
 
Get ready for Round 2 of The Ocho. ESPN announced that it will suspend regularly scheduled programming on one of its networks to bring back “the finest in seldom-seen sports from around the globe.” ESPN8 “The Ocho” Presented by KFC Battle of the Buckets will take the place of ESPN2 on Aug. 8, offering 24 hours of off-beat programming. KFC will sponsor all 24 hours of programming in a series of vignettes that will run throughout the day. Within the lineup will be the 2018 Dodgeball World Cup, the US Open Ultimate Championships, the Spikeball East Tour Series, Major League Eating, the Cornhole: ACL Pro Invitational, and the World Championship of Ping Pong.
 
Speaking of ESPN, starting Aug. 13 at 1p, ESPN Radio’s weekday The Stephen A. Smith Show will join Golic and Wingo, The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz and The Will Cain Show on ESPNEWS, making the network the TV home of all four of ESPN’s weekday national radio simulcasts.
 
X Games announced the dates for the 2019 and 2020 events at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.  The annual event will return from Aug. 1-4 in 2019 and July 16-19 in 2020. The summer editions will again feature the world’s top Skateboard, BMX and Moto X athletes, along with musical performances and an interactive festival village.

PVH Corp. unveiled a new campaign for its Van Heusen brand, which will include a partnership with UFC. The deal makes Van Heusen as UFC’s first-ever “Official Men’s Dress Furnishings Provider,” with UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw and UFC welterweight contender Stephen Thompson starring in a new commercial highlighting the Van Heusen Flex collection of men’s shirts and pants, which incorporates stretch features to give men a “corporate business-like look without sacrificing the range of motion or comfort found in casual clothing.” The commercial and campaign creative will be placed across national and local cable television, including NFL Network, Comedy Central, FOX Sports 1 and TruTV; programmatic and Pay-Per-View shows; video on-demand on Hulu, DirecTV Now, Sling TV and Roku; digital advertising spanning news and sports websites like Bleacher/Report and ESPN; and display ads on select retailer sites.
 
Elk Grove Village signed a deal to become the title sponsor of the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl, which will be played Dec. 21 in Nassau. This marks the first time a non-tourist municipality has ever sponsored a bowl game. “Elk Grove Village is home to the largest industrial park in the United States, spurred by our village’s commitment to being beyond business-friendly,” said Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson. “Our relationship with the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl and ESPN Events is a perfect opportunity to use college football to share our message with the entire country. We were impressed by how the bowl game has been developed in the Bahamas over the past four years, and we share in the excitement that this event brings to their community.”

The Rugby Weekend announced that Guinness would serve as the Official Beer of Ireland vs. Italy at the upcoming rugby tripleheader. The Rugby Weekend will take place on Nov. 3 with a return to Chicago’s Soldier Field, pitting talent from USA Men’s and Women’s teams, New Zealand’s Maori All Blacks and Black Ferns, along with European squads, Ireland and Italy. Guinness will also take on the Naming Rights sponsorship of the Event’s Official FanFest, which will feature the Guinness Gig Rig as well as an exclusive corporate hospitality zone.
 
Monumental Sports & Entertainment reached a multi-year agreement with KETTLER, which includes the full naming rights of the 200-level at the newly renovated Capital One Arena. Other elements to the agreement include brand integration during Washington Capitals and Wizards games as well as an integrative radio partnership, digital billboard advertising opportunities, and exciting experiential opportunities for KETTLER partners and apartment residents. The move will enable KETTLER to reach a broad demographic of people who attend Capitals hockey games, Wizards and Mystics basketball games, and arena football games with the Washington Valor and Baltimore Brigade, along with all other concerts, sports and entertainment events at the arena.
 
 
DIGITAL & STREAMING

FloSports inked a multiyear deal with the Western Collegiate Hockey Association to live stream every game hosted by the WCHA Women’s League exclusively on FloHockey.tv. The news follows FloSports’ recent announcement to also live stream every WCHA Men’s League game on the platform. Overall, FloSports will now carry more than 260 WCHA games annually on its OTT platform.
 
CBS Sports is offering voice-enabled fantasy football advice for the Google Assistant ahead of the upcoming season. Fantasy players can simply ask the Assistant, on smart speakers like Google Home, phones and other devices with the Google Assistant built in, for advice on drafting specific players and, once the season starts, for week-to-week lineup guidance. The Assistant will offer advice based on CBS Sports Fantasy expert rankings and SportsLine data and projections.
