Don’t look for the same-old in Fusion’s multi-platform coverage of the 2016 Republican and Democratic National Conventions, which begin tonight. Guests and perspectives will deviate from the mainstream in live coverage of “The Trump Show” and “The Hillary Show” starting at 10p each night, said network president and CCO Daniel Eilemberg. "We have found ourselves at a time when the issues that matter to the audiences we serve have become core in this election cycle – race, diversity, discrimination, social justice, immigration, and access to affordable education," explained Eilemberg. “Fusion is uniquely positioned to cut through the BS and cover these topics in an authentic way.”

In other convention news, Scott Baio will speak at the Republican Convention in Cleveland. The actor made the announcement during a Saturday evening appearance on Fox News. Baio will be joined by fellow actor Antonio Sabato, Jr. (Charmed), Ted Cruz and Newt Gingrich. Late-night TV hosts from network and cable will all be covering the convention. Seth Meyers is taking NBC’s Late Night live, HBO is planning specials for Real Time With Bill Maher and Trevor Noah is bringing The Daily Show to Cleveland.

CBS is tweaking its schedule during the upcoming conventions. BrainDead moves to Sundays at 10p beginning July 24, while Scorpion shifts to Monday at 9p on July 18 and July 25.

Tatyana Ali (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air) has filed a lawsuit claiming that Warner Bros and Telepictures stole her idea for daytime talker The Real. Ali alleges she came up with the concept for the show and pitched it to execs in 2012, but was told they declined the idea. According to the suit filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, The Real premiered about six months later as “a direct production” of the concept she pitched. Warner Bros has not commented on the suit.

ID acquired the rights to Southwest of Salem: The Story of the San Antonio Four – part of ID’s “mission to inform and inspire,” Henry Schleiff, group president, ID, American Heroes Channel and Destination America, tells Cynopsis. “Southwest of Salem provides poignant testimony to the consequences of wrongful persecution and incarceration – as well as the ultimate strength and, indeed, triumph of human spirit,” says Schleiff. “The unwavering perseverance of the San Antonio Four has resulted in their release from prison  and fans the flames of hope for their exoneration. ID is honored to share their story with our passionate, action-oriented audience to bolster this endeavor and to influence the Texas Criminal Court of Appeals, with whom the case currently sits, to do what is right.” The documentary will air later this year under the ID Films banner.

Last weekend, Univision Deportes launched Sabado Futbolero, a six-hour window of programming every Saturday during Liga MX season featuring soccer matches, stars and storytelling. Bonus content airs across the network’s digital and social channels.

Following the success of their 7 Days in Hell, Andy Samberg and Murray Miller are teaming up with HBO again to develop another sports mockumentary. Samberg is set to star in Tour de Pharmacy, examining doping in the professional cycling world, as well as produce with Miller via their Legends of Sport banner.

Law & Order vet Rene Balcer has signed on to write, executive produce and serve as a showrunner for NBC’s Law & Order: True Crime The Menendez Murders. The net has ordered eight hour-long episodes of the anthology series focusing on brothers Lyle and Erick Menendez, convicted of murdering their parents.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is heading to TV – Starz will premiere the blockbuster Saturday, September 10 at 9p and 11:20p. “No greater fandom has ever existed than the Star Wars fans,” said Chris Albrecht, president and CEO of Starz. Fans and subscribers will be able to follow the search for Luke Skywalker on Starz networks, on demand, by streaming or download on the Starz App or through an Amazon Prime Starz subscription.

DISTRIBUTION

Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios has inked a multi-year home entertainment distribution agreement with Anchor Bay Entertainment. The deal gives ABE Blu-ray, DVD, EST and transactional PPV/VOD distribution rights in the United States to all theatrically- released motion pictures produced, acquired, owned, and/or controlled by Entertainment Studios, Inc.

CASTING

Dane Cook has landed a role in Starz’s American Gods. He’ll play Shadow Moon’s best friend Robbie in the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel.

The Amazing Spider-Man’s Charlie DePew will co-star opposite Bella Thorne in Freeform drama Famous in Love. He’ll play Jake, a down-to-earth guy from the Midwest.

Morgan Spector has nabbed a starring role in Spike’s The Mist.  He’ll play protagonist Kevin Cunningham. Series goes into production this summer, to air in 2017.

Rose Byrne (Damages) has been cast opposite Oprah Winfrey in HBO FilmsThe Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. She’ll play a journalist.

Sandrine Holt has signed as a series regular on CBSMacGyver, a reimagining of the 1985-1992 action-adventure drama. She’ll portray an ex-field agent turned director of operations for DXS.

Hulu drama Handmaid’s Tale has added Mark Minghella as a Guardian in Gilead, and  Ann Dowd (The Leftovers) as head of the Red Center. Series bows in 2017.

Felisha Terrell (Survivors Remorse) has landed the female lead in WGN America drama pilot Roadside Picnic. She’ll play Red’s (Matthew Goode) street-wise wife, Guta, in the alien saga.

Once Upon a Time has cast Giles Matthey (24: Live Another Day, True Blood) as Morpheus, the Greek god of dreams, in Season 6. Series returns Sunday, September 25 at 8p on ABC.

DIGITAL DOINGS

FX Networks has released a new version of its video on-demand app FXNOW, designed to take full advantage of the capabilities of the 4th generation Apple TV. The app not only offers a more cinematic experience, but features the first-ever opportunity to watch Simpsons TV on a streaming device.

Atlas Media Corp has set up a digital arm to create and develop intellectual property, launch multiplatform channels and sell sponsorships and branded integrations. The unit’s first effort kicks off August 15 with the official launch of Curious Jack, a multiplatform channel that offers information about pop culture, food, fashion, music, history, science and the paranormal.

American Koko has been picked up by ABC’s revamped ABCd streaming service. Viola Davis is a producer on the digital series, created by and starring Diarra Kilpatrick (Mike & Molly).

There will be more Stranger Things on Netflix, as in an after-show for the recently launched series on its YouTube channel. The first two episodes of Stranger Things After Show, hosted by Jesse Janedy, are currently available.

Susanne Bier (The Night Manager) is in talks to direct Amazon Studios’ upcoming pilot about pre-revolutionary Cuba. The untitled project, written by Josh Goldin and Rachel Abramowitz, centers around the world of the Tropicana nightclub.

Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey season 7 premiere on Sunday garnered 1.3 million viewers P18-49, 1.6 million P25-54 and 2.6 million total viewers. Immediately following, Shahs of Sunset netted 1 million P18-49 (up 21 percent from the prior episode), 1.2 million P25-54 (up 23 percent) and a season high 2 million (up 33 percent) total viewers.

The 13th annual edition of Premios Juventud, which aired on Univision and Galavision, reached 6.4 million Total Viewers 2+. For the eighth consecutive year, Univision ranked as the top broadcast network on the night of the youth awards show among both A18-34 and Persons 12-34.

Thursday A18-49 Analysis: CBS won the most A18-49 viewers Thursday with 1.3/6, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. CBS grabbed the #1 spot at 8p with The Big Bang Theory and Life in Pieces combining for 1.3/6, followed by Univision’s Premios Juventud with 1.2/5.
