Drama series Guantanamo is headed to Showtime after a bidding war. The series, which has Oliver Stone attached to direct in his first scripted TV outing, will launch with a 10-episode first season. Series was created by Daniel Voll (The Unit), who will also serve as showrunner, and centers on the detainees held in the controversial prison, and those who defend and condemn them. Alexandra Milchan (The Wolf of Wall Street) will produce with Weinstein Television, which acquired the project this May.
WE tv is headed down the aisle again. The network is rebooting its long-running hit show Bridezillas, with 10 new hourlong eps set to premiere next year. The original Bridezillas ended its run in 2013 after 10 seasons and launched spinoff series Marriage Boot Camp, which recently concluded its eighth season. Bridezillas is executive produced by Laura Halperin. Exec producers for WE tv are Lauren P. Gellert, Kate Farrell and Angela Molloy.
ITV Entertainment optioned Armoza Formats series The Bubble, a format that isolates celebrity contestants in a “bubble” for a week – no Internet, no mobile phones, no TV – and then brings them into the studio where they learn of the past week’s current affairs and are asked to distinguish the real news from the fake.
Jerry Bruckheimer Television signed a three-year overall deal with CBS Television Studios. Bruckheimer left Warner Bros. Television in 2016 after 15 years.
Hartswood Films hired Doctor Who exec producer Brian Minchin as head of drama development at its Wales-based Hartswood West facility.
Portfolio Entertainment signed new deals for its animated and live action series to launch in the US, Ukraine, Middle East and North Africa. Starz (US) picked up, for its on-demand and online platforms, both seasons of kids docu-series Do You Know?, hosted by YouTube tech vlogger Maddie Moate. Niki Kids (Ukraine) signed on to comedy Freaktown, Ultra Kids (Ex-Yugoslavia) acquired the first two seasons of DOKI and in the Middle East and North Africa, Discovery Kids and E Junior acquired Mack & Moxy.
Science Channel will air Finding Amelia Earhart: Mystery Solved this Saturday, July 15 at 10p. The special will investigate what happened to Earhart when she disappeared over the Pacific Ocean more than 70 years ago.
The Weather Channel is airing live program event The Great American Chillout July 17-23, taking viewers to some of the coolest places in the US, from deep underground to high above sea level. TWC meteorologists will be reporting live from cool areas across the country, ranging from caves and summer ski slopes, to one-of-a-kind “ice bars” and roof-top gardens.
TLC’s Counting On will wrap its second season with a two-part after show led by host Daphne Oz, who will sit down with the older siblings to reminisce and watch highlights from this season. Part one of the after show airs Monday, July 17 at 9p, part two airs Monday, July 24 at 8p.
PBS will go wild with live event Wild Alaska Live, which puts the lens on bears, wolves, beavers, moose, orcas, eagles and more as they gather by the thousands to take part in Alaska’s summer feast. Led by PBS stars Chris Kratt and Martin Kratt, the event kicks off Sunday, July 23 at 8p and also airs July 26 and July 30.
AT&T will launch a cloud-based DVR as it continues to unify its DirecTV and DirecTV Now streaming service. Beta testing begins this summer, with a formal rollout slated for the fall, which also is when the company also plans to add live TV pausing.
Mediacom Communications reached a carriage agreement with i24NEWS, which has studio hubs in the US, Israel and Europe and provides American audiences with local and international news with a focus on Israel and the Middle East.
Optimum Partners hired IM Global Television, a joint venture between indie studio IM Global, Chinese digital giant Tencent and Tang Media Partners, to handle international distribution rights for the new animated one-hour special Michael Jackson’s Halloween, featuring Jackson’s music as its soundtrack.
Dave Morgan, founder and CEO of Litton Entertainment, announced the syndication premiere of Entertainment One and ICF Films medical drama Saving Hope for weekends beginning in fall 2017.

The July 7, noon-premiering episode of Nickelodeon animated preschool series PAW Patrol titled “Baby Octopus” posted the highest-rated performance with K2-5 in more than three years, according to the network. The ep delivered a 7.1/2 million with K2-5 and 3.4 million total viewers in Live +3.
Average total viewership for the YES Network’s New York Yankees game telecasts through the first half of the 2017 season was up 57 percent year-over-year in the NY DMA. This marks YES’ highest first-half viewership for Yankees telecasts in five years.
Bounce kicked off season 3 of its original comedy series In The Cut with back-to-back eps on Tuesday, July 11 and the initial telecasts combined to reach nearly 1 million (908,000) unduplicated viewers 2+. The 9-10p double premiere also ranked as Tuesday night’s No. 1 sitcom vs. all ad-supported cable programming in its time period in Households, A18-49, A25-54 and Total Viewers among Bounce’s target audience of African Americans.
