07/10/18: Aon is partnering with the PGA TOUR and LPGA for a new challenge in golf

Aon plc, a global professional services firm, announced a multi-year partnership with the PGA TOUR and LPGA in a “first-of-its-kind” Aon Risk Reward Challenge. The season-long event will highlight the world’s best professional golfers as they “tackle the most strategically challenging holes across both the PGA TOUR and LPGA schedules.” The player from each Tour on top of the Aon leaderboard at the end of the regular season will each receive $1 million in prize money. As an Official Marketing Partner of both Tours, Aon receives the following designations: the “Official Risk, Retirement and Health Advisor of the PGA TOUR” and the “Official Professional Services Firm of the LPGA.”
 
The Aon Risk Reward Challenge will be launched through a multi-platform strategy that includes broadcast integration with CBS and Golf Channel, the use of PGA TOUR and LPGA digital platforms, and the opportunity for Aon to bring clients and colleagues inside the ropes with exclusive experiences and business networking events around the world.

As the World Cup hits its final week, Telemundo Deportes is touting that its coverage has now reached 34.7 million TV viewers through the quarterfinals, accounting for 60 matches. According to the company, Telemundo has reached nearly 55% of the US Hispanic population. In addition, Telemundo Deportes’ digital presentation has reached 14.4 million unique users, generating a record-setting 125 million livestreams and 1.87 billion live minutes viewed, marking the 2018 World Cup the biggest livestream sports event in Spanish-language history.
 
FOX Sports hits Brooklyn for the doubleheader ABB FIA Formula E Championship season finale 2018 New York City ePrix July 14-15 with Saturday’s race airing live on FOX at 3p. Sunday’s race airs Sunday at 2:30p on FS1. Ralph Sheheen hosts FOX Sports’ coverage, with the Formula E broadcast team of Bob Varsha, Jack Nicholls and three-time Indianapolis 500 champion Dario Franchitti calling the action. Nicki Shields and Amanda Busick report from the paddock.
 
Speaking of racing, FS1 and NASCAR Productions launch the fourth season of the documentary series Beyond the Wheel this week on NASCAR Race Hub. The first film, titled “Davey Lives On,” premieres Wednesday at 6p while FOX Sports and NASCAR.com celebrate the life of Davey with exclusive all-day content, including a special NASCAR.com page dedicated to articles, videos and photos about his legacy.
 
NBC Sports Group delivers on-air and digital coverage of the celebrity golf tournament, the American Century Championship with coverage starting Friday at 3p on NBCSN, followed by coverage on NBC on Saturday and Sunday from 3-6p. This year’s names are set to include the likes of Stephen Curry, Aaron Rodgers and Tony Romo, along with Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown, Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, John Smoltz, Ray Allen, Charles Barkley, Larry the Cable Guy, Kevin Nealon and Ray Romano. Social media correspondent Nikki Bondura will contribute to Golf Channel and NBC Sports’ social media and digital platforms with exclusive behind-the-scenes content from Edgewood Tahoe throughout tournament week.
 
The Big Sky Conference and television partner ELEVEN SPORTS unveiled the 2018 television slate for the upcoming football season. All 13 league football teams will appear on the network this fall as ELEVEN broadcast sone game a week over a 10-week span, as well as one men’s basketball game of the week throughout the season. The first Game of the Week will be on Sept. 15, when Northern Colorado hosts Sacramento State in Greeley.

Minor League Baseball inked a long-term agreement with ISM Connect—a provider of data metric smart screen engagement technology built to promote enhanced live event experiences—to form a new digital network to connect MiLB teams, partners and fans across the country. ISM Connect’s network of high-definition LCD smart screens will provide select MiLB stadiums with innovative technology and data capabilities. Foundry IV and MGM Resorts International are deepening ties, inking a partnership that will now include a slate of “Suite Series” esports events, the development of a battle royale genre game, as well as the addition of a “competitive gaming system” created specifically for casino play. In addition, Foundry IV is also expanding the role of its ownership group from simple franchise model to a cohesive federation entitled the “New Sports Federation” in order to “inspire growth in digital competitive entertainment and create products that increase its value with gamers, brands, and media.” The new “Suite Series” will pit athletes, celebrities, and influencers against each other as they represent a variety of MGM Resorts owned properties with participants that include traditional sports athletes, DJs, celebrity chefs, and more.
 
OpTic Gaming team captain Peter “ppd” Dager is spearheading the launch of the North American Dota Challengers League in a move to create a semi-professional league within North America. The NADCL is an in-house league designed to showcase upcoming players and semi-pro teams and give them a chance to stand in the spotlight in a competitive league.
Season one will launch in Oct., following the first Valve minor qualifier and will continue throughout the year while avoiding any conflicting dates with the DPC qualifiers. The league will be restricted to unsponsored teams for aspiring professional players.
 
 
ROSTER MOVES

Hania Poole was promoted to Senior Vice President of NCAA Digital and General Manager of Bleacher Report Live.  In her expanded role, Poole will continue to oversee all aspects of NCAA Digital – including Turner’s award-winning NCAA March Madness Live (MML) – and the recently launched B/R Live.  Poole’s responsibilities also include oversight of the day-to-day relationship with league partners at the NCAA.
 
CSI Entertainment named Richard Katz as VP of Operations, where he will bring his experience and oversight to their distribution of over 200 operators via satellite, fiber and iptv as well as their syndication business. He previously served as NBC Universal VP of Operations & Engineering.
 
Excel Sports Management tapped Jason Miller as a Senior Vice President & Head of Property Sales. Previously with Premier Partnerships, Miller will lead Excel’s efforts in third-party commercial sales, naming rights, marquee partnerships, sponsorship strategy and valuation services for leagues, teams, venues and other sports properties.
