With the Verizon–AOL deal made official this week, The Huffington Post is the first AOL property to ramp up its video efforts with a 24-hour online video network called HuffPost24. The new net will feature live programming, short-form video, original series and documentaries, founder and editor-in-chief Arianna Huffington told her staff yesterday; it will be available on the HuffPost website, apps, OTT and distributed as VOD content. "It’s part of our growth plan to be 50-50 video," Huffington told The Hollywood Reporter. "Being able to produce video that can be consumed both by over-the-top and mobile is a huge priority for us." General Manager Nathan Brown will lead the TV and film division of the network.
Amazon is signing on Transparent showrunner Jil Soloway (Six Feet Under) for the long haul. After two Golden Globe wins for ‘Parent, Soloway will continue to develop TV projects exclusively for Prime Instant Video streaming service. In addition, Amazon announced a third season order of the show just as it begins production on its second season. "I am blown away by the creative freedom Amazon gives me, and I can’t wait to reveal where this journey is going to take us,” said Soloway.

Subway and Content + Co launched the third season of The 4 to 9ers. The series is the top scripted short comedy on Hulu, with the second season hitting more than than 18 million views. The new season will be featured on the homepage carousel of Hulu and for the first time, after its run on Hulu, will move to Yahoo! Screen where it will air for an additional 10 weeks. Returning to write, produce and direct are the creative team of director Jamie Widdoes (Two and a Half Men), Tim O’Donnell (Growing Pains) and Content + Co Executive Producer Peter Isacksen.
Cinedigm Corp. and Shout! Factory are expanding their partnership with a minority investment by Cinedigm and will jointly re-launch Shout’s existing digital channel, Shout! Factory TV. “This new relationship benefits all aspects of Cinedigm’s business and adds Shout! Factory’s classic pop culture-themed OTT channels to our digital network roster that now includes CONtv, DOCURAMA and the upcoming Dove Channel,” said Cinedigm Chairman and CEO Chris McGurk.
Hallmark’s SVOD platform Feeln will premiere lifestyle talk show Breaking Bread with Brooke Burke in fall 2015, targeting the “digital boomer.” Celebrity guests include: Florence Henderson, Jane Seymour, Carnie Wilson, Ali Landry & Alejandro Gómez Monteverde, Roma Downey and Mark Burnett as well as Nicole Ari Parker and Boris Kodjoe.

Actress Bella Thorne and late night host Seth Meyers revealed the first scene of MTV’s new Scream series to their Twitter followers last night. The #ScreamAThon airs this weekend on MTV, Saturday June 27 and Sunday June 28, featuring two back-to-back Scream viewings. The cast will conduct interviews “selfie-style” throughout the weekend’s programming. Scream will premiere on June 30 at 10p ET on MTV.
Disney Interactive launched Disney Gif, a free mobile keyboard extension for iOS that lets users send gifs and emojis of characters from Disney, Star Wars, Disney Pixar and ABC programming via messaging and social platforms. The Star Wars emojis have generated more than one billion impressions on Twitter in the two weeks since their premiere at Star Wars Celebration.
Lost My Name, a U.K-based kids’ publishing and entertainment startup, completed a $9 million Series A round of financing from Google Ventures, Greycroft, The Chernin Group, Allen + Co, and former SunGard President and CEO Cris Conde. The new financing will help LMN globally scale its business and create content, products and experiences for children.
Univision Communications Inc. appointed Jose Valle as President of Political and Advocacy Sales, and Jaime Jiménez to Executive Vice President of Univision Local Media. They both help manage Univision Radio content and Univision Radio’s operating hubs in Los Angeles, Miami and San Antonio. Valle served as President of Univision Radio since 2011; Jiménez previously served as Executive Vice President of Local Media, with responsibility for half of the local TV and radio stations.
On the heels of Madison Logic’s ABM product launch, the company expanded its executive team with several new hires: Sonjoy Ganguly joined as Senior Vice President, Product Management, Amit Varshneya was named Head of Account-Based Marketing Strategy and Steve Weitzner will serve as Strategic Consultant. Ganguly previously managed the brand and innovation initiatives at Deloitte + Touche; Varshneya held senior executive roles at Demandbase as Head Of Consulting Services and at Hexaware as Global Head Of Marketing; Weitzner was formerly the CEO at Summit Professional Networks, Ziff Davis Enterprise and CMP Media.
