In the end, Tim Brando is heading to FOX Sports, stunning some pundits who thought he was destined for SEC Network. The veteran broadcaster is officially joining FOX Sports’ roster of college sports personalities and contributors where he will help cover college football and college basketball on FOX and FOX Sports 1 beginning this season. Brando’s broadcast partner, as well as the full FOX Sports college football announce teams, will be released at a later date. Brando joins after roles at the likes of CBS Sports and SiriusXM.
CBS Sports is set for Tiger Woods return to play in the Quicken Loans National this weekend. The channel carries the third- and final-round coverage of the Quicken Loans National on Saturday from 306p and Sunday from 3-6:30p. Jim Nantz serves as anchor and joins Sir Nick Faldo, who will be lead analyst. Ian Baker-Finch calls the action at the 17thhole and Gary McCord at the 16th hole. David Feherty and Peter Kostis serve as on-course reporters.
Nickelodeon has its lineup for the first-ever Kids’ Choice Sports Awards, set to air live on July 17 at 8p. In addition to host Michael Strahan, country stars Florida Georgia Line will make their debut appearance on Nickelodeon for the show. Joining Strahan will be Marshawn Lynch (Seattle Seahawks), NBA MVP superstar Kevin Durant (Oklahoma City Thunder), Will Arnett and Megan Fox (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Nick Cannon (America’s Got Talent), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Henrik Lundqvist (New York Rangers), Victor Cruz (New York Giants), Metta World Peace (New York Knicks), George Lopez (Lopez Tonight), pro skateboarder Tony Hawk, Olympic snowboarder Kelly Clark, pro surfer Bethany Hamilton, Anna Faris (Mom), Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney, Debby Ryan (Jessie), Dez Bryant (Dallas Cowboys) Raini Rodriguez (Austin & Ally) and Rico Rodriguez (Modern Family). Speaking of awards, ESPN is adding a new honor to its ESPYS telecast, The Pat Tillman Award for Service. Ten years after his death, the show will continue his legacy with the Award, which will be presented to an individual with a strong connection to sports that has served others in a way that echoes the legacy of Tillman. The inaugural recipient will be Josh Sweeney, a Purple Heart recipient and a member of the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team that won the gold medal at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi.
NBC Sports Group’s coverage of the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday averaged 413,000 viewers for the network, making it the third-most watched F1 race to date on NBCSN and up 58% versus the channel’s 2013 F1 average race viewership in that window. This comes on the heels of the channel’s broadcast of the Canadian Grand Prix on June 8 which ranked as the most-watched F1 race in seven years with 1.462 million viewers. For the first six races of the 2014 season on NBCSN, Formula 1 has drawn 377,000 average viewers, up 111% from the first six races of the 2013 F1 season NBC and NBCSN’s eight Formula 1 telecasts in 2014 have combined to deliver 588,000 viewers, up 43% from the 2013 season through eight races.
Meanwhile, NBCSN’s presentation of the WSOF 10 handed the channel with 365,000 viewers for the channel, according to MMA Fighting. That marks a new high, besting the previous record television audience record by 38%, according to Nielsen. This comes ahead of its NBC show on July 5 from Daytona Beach on July 5.

NASCAR unveiled some early Daytona plans for 2015, announcing that Preseason Thunder will take place one week later in 2015. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams will hit the track on January 15-16 ahead of the Daytona 500 on February 22, 2015. This year’s Daytona testing was scheduled for Jan. 9-10, but rain washed out the planned first day of testing forcing all on-track activity to Jan. 10. The Preseason Thunder Fan Fest is slated for Jan. 15.
Spike TV will telecast an encore presentation of Bellator MMA: Rampage vs. King Mo on Friday, July 18 at 9p. The MMA promotion will continue its summer season the following week with Bellator 122 on Friday, July 25 at 9p on Spike, with two co-features, Andrey Koreshkov/Adam McDonough and Brett Cooper/Brandon Halsey.
Only seven people have ever shot a record score of 59 in competition on either the PGA TOUR or LPGA Tour and five of them will join host Rich Lerner for a roundtable discussion about the feat on the next installment of Legendary Conversation on Monday, June 30 at 9p on Golf Channel. Participants will include Al Geiberger, Chip Beck, Annika Sorenstam, Paul Goydos and Stuart Appleby. The discussion will cover such topics as the mental tricks the players used to stay focused, what “staying in the zone” meant to them at the time, how critical putting was during their historic rounds, how the feat has changed their careers and lives, and whether the world will witness a score of 58 in the future.
NBC Sports Group offers more than 24 hours of coverage of the Dew Tour Beach Championships this week from Ocean City, Md., including four hours of live television coverage on NBC, three hours on NBCSN, and 17-plus hours of digital content live streamed on NBC Sports Live Extra and DewTour.com. Television coverage begins Saturday at 1p on NBC, and continues through the weekend on NBC and NBCSN with Todd Harris leading the coverage along with Chris Miller(skateboard analyst), Jamie Bestwick (BMX Park analyst), Ryan Nyquist (BMX Vert analyst), and Tina Dixon(reporter).
HBO Boxing has slated Road to Golovkin/Geale for Saturday, July 12 at 12:05a on HBO. The special spotlights the upcoming middleweight title fight between undefeated champ Gennady Golovkin and former two-time champ Daniel Geale taking place on Saturday, July 26.
World of X Games hits ABC on Sunday at 2p with an in-depth recap of the the fifth leg of the ASP World Championship Tour, Fiji Pro in Tavarua, Fiji. The show features Fiji Pro defending champion and 11-time ASP world champion, Kelly Slater as well as a new generation of surfers.
The now infamous Suarez incident continued to overshadow social conversation by brands during the early games on June 25. However, some brands still looked to make their mark as we near the knockout stage.

In an attempt to shift from the Suarez bite conversation, some World Cup sponsors attempted to engage users with alternate messaging. Yingli, an official World Cup sponsor who has stayed relatively quiet during the tournament, tweeted a link to a Q&A page with their Vice President of marketing explaining their sponsorship. While it did not garner a large amount of engagement, the tweet is an interesting way to inform readers about their plan to power the World Cup final, using only solar power.

Yesterday, El Jimador incorrectly tweeted a goal celebration for Japan, who had not scored in their match vs. Colombia. The misfire occurred again today during the Bosnia Herzegovina vs. Iran match, when El Jimador tweeted the following goal celebration for Iran when Bosnia Herzegovina scored, “@jimieljimador: Iran, welcome to the hall of goals #JimiSpirit #IRN vs #BIH.” While there was a lack of engagement by fans, neither tweet has been deleted or addressed.

In anticipation for the USA vs. Germany match on June 26, brands have been relatively quiet. During this calm before the storm, it can be assumed that brands are waiting until close to kick-off to push out the best content. Brands to watch include:

With the World Cup now halfway through, Unruly updatedThe Brazilliant Brands Tracker that features 11 brands to represent the number of players on a team. The results showed that brands not affiliated with the sporting event drove 71.2 percent (8.9 million) of the total 12.5 million shares so far. The top player was non-sponsor Activia with 3.9 million shares, and also the sixth most shared ad of all time. Nike beat out rival and official tournament sponsor Adidas with 2.4 million shares. Those in the top 11 by most shared soccer ads are as follows: Activia, Nike, Samsung, Castrol, Adidas, Coca-Cola, Beats by Dre, ESPN, Emirates, Nissin Group and Banco de Chile.
Electronic Arts Inc., the NHL and the NHLPA named Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron as the winner of the fan-balloted tournament to be the EA SPORTS NHL 15 cover athlete. Bergeron bested Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban for the honor following more than 10 million votes from hockey fans around the world.
The newly launched 120 Sports has another teammate, announcing that the PGA TOUR was joining the site as an equity partner in the first league and media property owned multi-sport live streaming digital video network. Additional 120 Sports equity partners, which were announced earlier this year, include Time Inc./Sports Illustrated, MLB.com, the NHL, Campus Insiders and Silver Chalice. "We are excited to partner with the PGA TOUR with a shared vision for this new, first-of-its kind, digital network," said 120 Sports President Jason Coyle. "We look forward to collaborating as partners as we work to deliver sports video programming through a platform fans haven’t experienced before."
In a 6-3 opinion, the U.S. Supreme Court decided against the online broadcast streaming service Aereo today, declaring it infringed broadcast network’s copyrights, and marking a “win” for networks and leagues. The court ruled Aereo illegal on grounds that it does not “constitute a public performance” in order to surpass copyright violation for streaming broadcast signals without permission (and for a price). Justice Antonin Scalia wrote in the majority opinion: “Unlike video-on-demand services, Aereo does not provide a prearranged assortment of movies and television shows. Rather, it assigns each subscriber an antenna that like a library card can be used to obtain whatever broadcasts are freely available…The key point is that subscribers call all the shots… copyrighted or not.”
