Another win for the US Women’s National Team on Monday propelled FOX Sports 1’s coverage of the Women’s World Cup contest to more records for the channel. The victory over Colombia drew 4.7 million viewers, according to Nielsen, to set a new record for soccer on the channel and bested the previous high mark by 42%. Overall, USA/Colombia now ranks as the third most-watched program in FOX Sports 1 history, trailing only Game 4 (5.1 million) and Game 5 (4.9 million) of the 2014 National League Championship Series but is actually its most-watched telecast among Adults 18-49 with 2.3 million viewers. The game also handed FOX Sports GO with over 120,000 unique streamers, making it the highest viewed simulcast in the app’s history. On the local front: St. Louis led all metered markets with a 5.3 rating, followed by Washington, D.C. (5.0), Philadelphia (4.9), Orlando (4.4), and Norfolk (4.3).
The NBA formally announced that Charlotte will play host to NBA All-Star 2017. The 66th annual game takes place at Time Warner Cable Arena on Sunday, Feb. 19 and marks the second time the festivities have been held in the city. Other events will include the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge on Feb. 17, State Farm All-Star Saturday Night on Feb. 18.
Paris became the fourth city to officially throw its hat into the ring to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. The Paris bid was formally announced at the headquarters of the French Olympic Committee and now joins Boston, Hamburg and Rome as declared bidders. The deadline for submission of bids is Sept. 15.
truTV and Top Rank carry the MetroPCS Friday Night Knockout on truTV on Friday at 10p. The card will include a 10-round bout for the WBO International Super Middleweight title between undefeated southpaw champion Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez (31-0-0, 24 KOs) and Derek "The Black Lion" Edwards (27-4-1, 14 KOs) of Las Vegas as well as Diego Magdaleno/Jose "Chelo" Gonzalez. Microphone duties will include Kevin Kugler offering play-by-play with analyst Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini and reporter Crystina Poncher with coverage that will once again include the use of "Spidercam" technology.
Pac-12 Networks lined up its 2015 men’s soccer television schedule with 36 games on the docket, including 22 Pac-12 matchups.The live non-conference schedule begins Aug.28 with Marquette/Oregon State at 5p PT. This year, 17 of 18 Conference telecasts will feature at least one ranked team based on the final 2014 NSCAA rankings.
NASCAR came out in support of South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley’s move to take down the confederate flag. "As we continue to mourn the tragic loss of life last week in Charleston, we join our nation’s embrace of those impacted. NASCAR supports the position that South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley took on the Confederate Flag on Monday," the organization said in a statement. "As our industry works collectively to ensure that all fans are welcome at our races, NASCAR will continue our long-standing policy to disallow the use of the Confederate Flag symbol in any official NASCAR capacity. While NASCAR recognizes that freedom of expression is an inherent right of all citizens, we will continue to strive for an inclusive environment at our events."
SNY unites Mets broadcasters Gary Cohen (SNY) and Howie Rose (WOR) in a head-to-head competition against two teams of super fans in a game of Mets trivia next week. Beat the Booth with Gary and Howie will be hosted by Chris Carlin and offer four rounds of Mets trivia questions on Tuesday, June 30 and Wednesday, July 1 at 10:30p.
The Virginia Tech Department of Athletics and IMG announced the hiring of Jon Laaser as "The Voice of the Hokies." Laaser has been covering Richmond Flying Squirrels baseball and Virginia Commonwealth basketball.

Wicked Tango is teaming with Nitro Circus on a partnership agreement that will see both companies enter into a fully integrated sponsorship arrangement. The brand now becomes the official whiskey of Nitro Circus and will be a part of Nitro Circus Live’s upcoming North American fall 2015 tour. Wicked Tango will also be integrated into Nitro Circus content that includes over 27 hours of televised programming on NBC and NBCSN. "A licensing and sponsorship agreement like this is a game changer," Peter Maule, Global Head of Licensing at Nitro Circus, said. "We can offer partners access to all of our assets live events, original content and talent so that they are vested 360 degrees in Nitro Circus." Canada’s TSN and Sport Chek revealed that the Sport Chek Flagship store in Maple Leaf Square will become home to a fully integrated broadcast-ready studio. The in-store studio includes: 9 foot broadcast desk fully equipped with studio lighting, microphones and four cameras; a sports ticker with 11 LED panels totaling 22,528 LEDs; a full color LED System and more and will broadcast special editions and reports for the likes of SportsCentre, Leafs Launch, etc.
