FIFA, Budweiser and Twitter are making it easier for fans to vote for the Man of the Match Award during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The partnership is a continuation of Man of the Match voting during the 2014 World Cup. The new Twitter voting platforms will offer an enhanced visual voting portal and will update to include active players on the pitch. Voting opens as soon as the first half of each match ends, via the voting portal at FIFA’s official @FIFAWorldCup on Twitter. Fans can vote, and even change their vote, until the match ends. Fans will simply choose the player they feel deserves to win the Man of the Match award and submit a vote via Twitter. Budweiser Man of the Match voting is available in five languages – English, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese. When voting concludes, @FIFAWorldCup will tweet the name of the winner as well as video of the match action and an interview with the Man of the Match.
DraftKings Inc. has applied for a sports betting license in New Jersey. Its application for a Casino Service Industry Enterprise License has been “accepted for filing” by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE), DraftKings said. DraftKings also recently announced it selected Resorts Casino Hotel as its New Jersey casino licensing partner, satisfying an expected regulatory requirement for the company to offer an online sports betting product in the state. As part of its planned move into New Jersey, DraftKings has named Karl Gambin as its Director of New Jersey Gaming Operations, based out the company’s new office in Hoboken, NJ. Gambin will lead DraftKings’ compliance, customer and regulatory activities in the state.
The USGA, Topgolf and Fox Sports will host “The Ultimate U.S. Open Watch Party” at all 38 Topgolf venues across the country on Thursday, June 14. Topgolf guests will be able to watch the competitors on TV while they hit their own shots from the comfort of a climate-controlled hitting bay. The watch party officially begins at 5 p.m. at each Topgolf venue as FOX Sports presents live first-round coverage of the tournament from Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y. Along with competing in games offered at Topgolf, guests will be able to watch the tournament on all Topgolf TVs until 7:30 p.m. During the watch party, fans will have the chance to win a trip to the 2019 U.S. Open at iconic Pebble Beach Golf Links by using the custom 118th U.S. Open filter to capture a memorable moment during the event. Topgolf guests in Edison, N.J.; Nashville, Tenn.; Charlotte, N.C.; Gilbert, Ariz., and Orlando and Tampa, Fla., will also be able to purchase U.S. Open merchandise on-site, including headwear, T-shirts, hole flags, drinkware and ball markers.
The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) inked a multiyear partnership with FloSports to stream every game hosted by a WCHA school live and on-demand exclusively on FloHockey.tv. The agreement brings more than 180 WCHA games a year to the FloSports streaming platform, including all 140 regular-season WCHA games, preseason, exhibition and non-conference games hosted by a league school, and the entire WCHA postseason tournament. FloHockey subscribers will also have access to additional college hockey coverage, including select Big Ten Conference hockey games through the company’s distribution deal with the Big Ten Network. “Hockey is one of the most intense and fast-paced games, attracting fans from all over the world,” FloSports SVP, Global Rights Acquisition David Weiss said. “As one of the most established and elite college conferences in the U.S., the WCHA lets us showcase hockey’s rising stars with in-depth coverage all year long.”
Telemundo Deportes’s En Vivo App will feature a custom emoji keyboard during the FIFA World Cup. Fans that download the app will get access to a soccer emoji keyboard in partnership with Sportsmania, allowing fans to include World Cup content in their daily conversations for the duration of the tournament. Emojis will feature countries and other animations.
