PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
A&E Network ordered 10 additional episodes of Live Rescue. The weekly series from the producers of Live PD, Big Fish Entertainment, has been averaging 1.3 million viewers on Monday nights. The move brings the show’s first-season total to 19 episodes.
Dogs was greenlit for a second season by Netflix. The documentary series, developed by Glen Zipper, centers on the deep emotional bonds between people and their canine besties.
World of Dance judge Derek Hough signed a first look deal with Universal Television, expanding his relationship with the studio behind the NBC series. The agreement includes both alternative and scripted programming.
Don Cheadle (Avengers: Infinity War, Black Monday), Emily Mortimer (Mary Poppins Returns) and Helena Howard (Madeline’s Madeline, The Wilds) will star in Don’t Look Deeper, a sci-fi drama series for Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman’s short-form video platform Quibi. A co-production between New Form, a Whistle-owned company, and Doug Liman’s 30 Ninjas for Quibi, the series centers on a high school senior who senses something about her just isn’t right – and that something is she’s not human.
Syfy and Warner Horizon Scripted Television are developing Lobo (wt), based on the DC Comics fan-favorite and a live-action screen version of the intergalactic scoundrel. Emmett J. Scanlan, who plays the Lobo in Season 2 of Krypton, has a deal in place to star in the project.
Comedy Central issued a pilot order to Chasers, a half-hour scripted comedy starring Rob Huebel (Childrens Hospital), reports Deadline. It hails from Reno 911’s Robert Ben Garant and Cathy Shim, who co-stars, and Ben Silverman and Howard Owens’ Propagate. The project is set in the world of the after dark, independent news video hunters of Los Angeles.

All that glitters isn’t just gold. Audiences will see why when INSP debuts Turquoise Fever on Wednesday, August 14 at 9p. The new series follows the Ottenson family and their pursuit of some of the most valuable turquoise in the world.
AXS TV debuts WOW- Women Of Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling on Saturday, July 13 at 8p and 9p, respectively. WOW will recap the series’ entire first season, leading up its season 2 premiere on Saturday, September 7 at 8p. To set the stage for NJPW’s move to Saturdays, the network is airing a special live broadcast of Night 1 of the G1 CLIMAX 29 Tournament in Dallas on Saturday July 6 at 6p.
Also from AXS TV, A Year in Music bows Sunday, July 7 at 9p. Hosted by Tommy Chong, Don Felder, Downtown Julie Brown and Matt Pinfield, the series explores the sound that defined the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.
Facebook Watch released its programming slate for summer and fall. New toon comedy series Human Discoveries, featuring Zac Efron and Anna Kendrick, bows Tuesday, July 16; Five Points, starring Kerry Washington, returns Monday, August 5; Curse of Akakor makes its series premiere on Sunday, August 11; Ball in the Family is back Sunday, August 18; and Huda Boss returns Tuesday, August 20. YouTube murder mystery competition web series Escape The Night is returning for a fourth season, making it the streamer’s longest running original series. The new season debuts on Thursday, July 11 when two of its 10 half-hour episodes will be released.

Sony Pictures Television has partnered with the Game Show Network to launch America Says in syndication nationwide. Fox, Sinclair, CBS, Cox Media, Tegna, Nexstar, Mission, Gray and Lockwood have all agreed to carry the show on their stations when it debuts in fall 2019. America Says is now sold in 85% of the country.
Culpable, the latest podcast from Tenderfoot TV, launches Monday, June 17. An investigative series produced in partnership with Black Mountain Media and Cadence 13, the podcast explores cases where those deserving blame eluded justice. The debut season delves in the tragic death of 21-year-old Christian Andreacchio of Meridian, MS.

Google “leaked” the design of its next phone on Twitter. “Well, since there seems to be some interest, here you go! Wait ‘til you see what it can do. #Pixel4,” said a message on the company’s account. Smartphone blog Pricebaba had leaked images of the phone, which has changes including a square camera module with a pair of lenses.
Amazon released a new version on its Echo Dots Kids Edition smart speaker on Wednesday. The revamped Echo Dots Kids Edition features a new fabric case, similar to the new Echo Dot, however, with two color options not available for adults – light blue and rainbow stripes. Like the Echo Dot, it is 70% louder than its predecessor. The new Echo Dot Kids Edition begins shipping on June 26 and costs $69.99, $10 less than the version released last year.
Social video chat app Houseparty was acquired by Epic Games. “Houseparty brings people together, creating positive social interactions in real time,” said Epic C EO Tim Sweeney in a statement. “By teaming up, we can build even more fun, shared experiences than what could be achieved alone.”
AMC Networks International – Central and Northern Europe’s original series Taboos Without Taboo is now available on Amazon Prime Video in North America. The documentary investigates a range of taboo topics through personal stories, exploring subjects including death, mourning, addictions and hidden family secrets.
Cinedigm launched an SVOD services for digital-first networks Dove Channel, Docurama and CONtv on The Roku Channel. Roku Channel users can add the nets to their lineup for $4.99 a month for each.
Meanwhile, Gusto Worldwide Media announced that Gusto TV is now available on TV Plus, a digital entertainment app offered on Samsung televisions in the U.S. The food and lifestyle linear channel is subscription free.
Overhaulin’ and world-renowned car designer Chip Foose are returning to MotorTrend. New episodes of the series, featuring original hosts Chris Jacobs and Adrienne Janic, are set to premiere this summer on the MotorTrend app.
Amazon is expanding its live sports coverage in the UK. The company secured a four-year deal with the Women’s Tennis Association to show top tournaments, kicking off in 2020 with a minimum of 49 tournaments in the first year.
Fremantle struck two major deals across The Balkans. A pact with United Media will bring Britain’s Got Talent, America’s Got Talent and The X Factor to the region. Meanwhile, a multi-year deal with Fox Networks Group Bulgaria includes multiple series from Jamie Oliver to air on its 24 Kitchen channel. The broadcaster will premiere the eighth season of Jamie and Jimmy’s Food Fight Club, later this year, as well as new Oliver programming.
Endemol Shine Brasil partnered with Brazil music festival VillaMix and Ambev, part of the world’s largest brewer AB InBev, for a local version of Best.Cover.Ever. The weekly show launched on VillaMix’s YouTube channel last week, and topped 17 million views in 72 hours.
Jesten Huashi acquired format rights to Dandelooo’s pre-school series The Treehouse Stories. Seasons 1 and 2 have been distributed to more than 60 new media platforms in China including iQIYI, Youku, Tencent and IPTV, and to OTT digital TV mobile operators.
Nickelodeon’s reimagined game show, Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader, garnered more than 1 million Total Viewers tuning in for its Monday, June 10 debut. The series also won the day with kids, ranking as the number one program on cable with Kids 2-11 (2.3/540,000, +21% vs. prior 4 weeks) and Kids 6-11 (2.3/343,000, +10%). In addition, series premiere landed in the top spot for co-viewing on ad-supported TV for the day, and posted double-digit year-over-year and prior 4 weeks gains with A18-49 (+33%).
