Cancelled Fox comedy The Mindy Project has a new home on Hulu. The streaming service will bring back the series with a 26-episode season. The order is the comedy’s highest episode count yet, and brings the series within the number required for syndication. A premiere date will be announced at a later date. “Mindy has been a beloved member of the Hulu family, so this deal is a natural extension of our relationship,” said Craig Erwich, Senior Vice President and Head of Content at Hulu. The series is Universal Television‘s second on the SVOD service; it joins drama The Way and comedy Difficult People.
 
Woody Allen may not be as excited as his fans are for his TV series deal with Amazon. At the Cannes film festival, the director admitted that creating a TV series was much more difficult than expected. “I should never have gotten into it,” he joked. “It was a catastrophic mistake for me.” He continued, “I thought it would be a cinch – one half hour and then another half hour. But it’s not! It’s very, very hard, and I just hope that I don’t disappoint Amazon.” The company signed off on a full season of the Untitled Woody Allen Project in January, a half-hour series to be made available on Prime instant Video next year.

Netflix is in talks with Alibaba-backed Chinese media group Wasu Media and other partners as it plans to break into China’s video streaming market. China is the world’s largest Internet market with 649 million users – 60 percent of the audience using smartphones and tablets to watch video – and it’s worth around $6 billion. China’s online content regulator State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) has given Internet TV licenses to seven companies, one of which is Wasu Media.
 
Amazon’s Twitch live videogame streaming service is now available on Roku devices; owners can watch daily broadcasts, browse live gaming broadcasts, and access streams of any of Twitch’s 1.5 million individual broadcasters on the Twitch channel. “Gamers are voracious consumers of content, with extremely tech-savvy media consumption habits,” said Brooke Van Dusen, Director of Business Development at Twitch. “It’s now more important than ever for Twitch to be available everywhere gamers are, and increasingly, that’s on set-top boxes like Roku players and smart TVs such as Roku TV.” Amazon bought Twitch last year for nearly $1 billion.
 
BabyFirst
will increase its Latino reach through its launch on the AT&T U-verse Paquete Español package. BabyFirst, the TV network for child development programming for tots and their parents, is already available in English on U-verse. “With every third baby born in the U.S. being Latino, there’s increasing recognition among programming distributors that this community is hungry for age-appropriate content for their kids," Sharon Rechter, Executive Vice President Business Development and Distribution of BabyFirst, said. The network indexes 279 among Hispanic viewers, according to GfK MRI. The same study shows that BabyFirst is particularly strong among Hispanic female millennials.

 
 
CONTENT MEDIA
 

People and Entertainment Weekly Network has landed the No. 1 spot in the entertainment news category, knocking out TMZ, which held the top position for the last 18 months. People and EW took the lead with 56.4 million unique visitors (comScore) in April 2015. People.com came in at 72.5 million (without a royal baby birth), up 66 percent year-over-year; EW.com clocked in at 33.5 million, up 40 percent year-over-year. The combined People/EW network recorded a total of106 million monthly unique visitors. Video streams were also record-breaking on People, at nearly 14 million.
 
Oberto Beef Jerky will debut Heroes of Summer, a new digital campaign spotlighting four individuals who embody the “you get what you put in” tagline. They are Seahawks star and Super Bowl Champion Richard Sherman, along with three unsung Americans — blind marathoner/mountain climber Randy Pierce, Boston Marathon bombing survivor Adrianne Haslet-Davis and leukemia-stricken youngster Brady Wein. The mini-films will be showcased at Heroes.Oberto.com, with the first featuring Sherman out today (Monday), and the other three coming in June.

Agency Kre8 Media named Tina Wisner as Vice President of Data Science and Analytics. Wisner joins the company from Hawthorne Direct, where she was Director, Data Science and Analytics. Previously, she worked at RAPP, where she was Director of Data Science.
