PBS Digital Studios held its first NewFront presentation at the Hudson Theatre yesterday, showcasing six of its current 30 online series and introducing four new shows. Senior Director of PBS Digital Studios Matt Graham discussed the 13-34 age range that are primarily watching its content after showing a special Idea Channel (1.7 million monthly views and 500,000 subs) video taking host Mike Rugnetta into a middle school classroom. "A big part of what we are trying to do is reach these younger generations, and the really interesting surprise is when you get those young adults in big numbers you also get the 30, 40 and 50 year olds because they want to understand the world these young kids are creating," Graham told Cynopsis.
PBS highlighted its current shows like historical interview reinvention series Blank on Blank and science series It’s Okay To Be Smart. The new shows included the studio’s first scripted series called Frankenstein, M.D. from Pemberley Digital and the creators of Lizzie Bennett Diaries and musical variety show reboot Pancake Mountain. Food trend series Food Buzz and English-language historical series in partnership with Magnet Media, Bongo Bongo, were also introduced and made available on the PBS Digital platforms yesterday. PBS recently hit a million subs, 75 million views since it launched in 2012.
"We believe music can be as substantial a platform as sports." So said VEVO CRO Jonathan Carson at the Vevo NewFront last night as the company announced the expansion of its celebrity branding program, Certified, along with a Twitter partnership. Vevo also unveiled Certified Live, an on-demand concert performance that will feature top Vevo artists with 3,000 of their superfans, and Certified CountUps, which will embed videos into targeted tweets from Vevo, brand partners, artists and fans. "It was so exciting to see brands embrace the event tonight. For me, the highlight of the evening was the unveiling of Certified Live. From a brand, artist and fan perspective, it’s going to be very special," Carson told Cynopsis.
Vevo will also be partnering with native in-video advertising company Mirriad and debuted its new campaign music video with Aloe Blacc‘s hit The Man which integrated Levi’s. Additionally, Vevo announced a new AT&T sponsored music video premiere series that will include a Music Video Premiere Party to feature the artist in the video.

Get The Look (co-produced by Vevo and Rachel Zoe’s The Zoe Report), which will help viewers look like a superstar without the couture price tag.
Stylized (co-produced by Vevo and Milk Studios, MADE and Legs Media) will expose the true personalities behind artists’ fashion identities, including their perspective on art, culture, and gender.

Bill Gates‘ company Corbis Entertainment launched a new multimedia platform called Branded Entertainment Network (BEN) yesterday. BEN will provide brands and media buyers with access to top film, TV and digital placement opportunities through a partnership with the Producers Guild of America. "BEN provides two-way exchange for building buzz," President of PGA Mark Gordon said. "For advertisers, it offers a way to plan smart, quantifiable, guaranteed integrations to reach their target audiences, with the most excited projects and personalities."
AOL revamped the Moviefone website to include a wider span of entertainment content, and continue to assist users to find shows and movies online, in theaters or on television (minus the original phone number). The relaunch is sponsored by Disney‘s Maleficent in partnership with Whalerock Industries.

Netflix original Orange Is The New Black has been renewed for a third season. The second season will premiere 13 eps on the streaming service on June 6.
CW‘s digital network CW Seed debuted original series LA Rangers and Whose Line is it Minis, and unveiled eight additional originals set to premiere later this summer. The slate includes: Veronica Mars spin-off Play It Again Dick, an untitled comedy from Alloy Entertainment, The Kelly Cutrone Project and The Real Backpackers. Current digital series Husbands, The P.E.T Squad Files, Very Mallory and CelebTV On The CW will return for new eps on the platform as well.
VH1‘s Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta returned for a third season yesterday, with a social makeover. The companion digital series Check Yourself will be integrated on-air during every ep, and feature social calls to engage on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and on the VH1 App. VH1 will also ask fans to submit their own reaction shots to each show with the hash tag #CheckYoSelfie that could be displayed on-air.
…VH1 also announced its July 4th celebration show Philly 4th of July Jam will be live-streamed on Phillyjam.VH1.com and on the VH1 app from 8-11p ET. Nicki Minaj and The Roots are headlining the Independence Day celebration.
British TV streaming site Acorn Tv added ten new programs yesterday: Midsomer Murders, Set 24, Blandings, Series 2, exclusive streaming of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen‘s Theatreland, Jeeves & Wooster, An Idiot Abroad, PBS doc Civil War: The Untold Story, Mother’s Day Movie Marathon including Emma and Jane Eyre Loran Doone and The Woman in White. National CineMedia (NCM) merged with cinema advertising company Screenvision for $375 million yesterday. Screenvision was already a managing member and owner of almost half of NCM. "It will position the combined new company to be much more competitive in the video and advertising marketplace, including the new online and mobile advertising platforms," NCM’s Chairman and CEO Kurt Hall said.
RSG Media signed a deal with Sesame Street producers Sesame Workshop to provide a Cross platform Reporting service to monitor usage, revenue and royalties across content platforms. "We needed a tool that would aggregate and normalize data from a wide variety of disparate sources, each of which has its own formats, standards and schedules," VP of Information Systems at Sesame workshop Shadrach Kristen said.
