Kerry Washington has joined Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear’s ‘All in the Family’ and ‘The Jeffersons’, the live sitcom special from Jimmy Kimmel and Norman Lear airing Wednesday, May 22 on ABC. The event  will recreate an original episode from each of the two iconic series; Washington will play Helen Willis.
The crossover of existing brand partnerships between Disney’s newly acquired Fox properties and the Burbank mothership already is substantial, according to Disney ABC president of ad sales & partnerships Rita Ferro, who will lead the company’s unified Upfront today in NY. “There is a lot more crossover than I originally anticipated. When I look at their advertiser list and ours, I would say there’s an 85 percent-90 percent overlap because those brands are such premium brands and they are so uniquely tied to the audiences they connect with,” Ferro told Cynopsis on the eve of the event. “When I look across, for example, at FX and ESPN, both male-oriented brands, there is a tremendous crossover in terms of brands and opportunities. And now we’re thinking, Are there ways to extend the partnerships that aren’t crossing over today?” Ferro said in early conversations with brands and agencies, the concept of threading holistic messaging across the programming hubs including ABC, ESPN, Freeform FX and Nat Geo is top of mind. “Especially when you think about broad brands that want to reach a multitude of audiences – think of CBP, think of telecom, think of tech companies – the ability to say, ‘Here are our key goals and metrics,’ and then that comes to life in a natural organic process within each brand. The same team is managing the experiences and understands what the deliverables are. So while it may look very differently potentially in each one of these brands, it ultimately delivers on the same core message. From an agency perspective, when you see all of this on stage together, it will feel very natural.”
Felicity Huffman formally entered a plea of guilty for her role in the college bribery scheme, after making a deal with the feds. The actress will how long she’s going behind bars on September 13. Although the judge ultimately has discretion over the length of Huffman’s sentence, lawyers for the government told a federal judge in Boston that they want the American Crime actress to serve approximately four months.
Grammy winner Sheryl Crow will perform at the 44th Annual Gracie Awards on Tuesday, May 21 at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles. Hosted by Superstore’s Lauren Ash and presented by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation, the ceremony honors outstanding individual achievement and programming by, for and about women. This year’s honorees include Christina Hendricks, Rachel Bloom, Leah Remini and Annie Murphy.

In between appearances by the likes of Ted DansonTina Fey and Amy Pohler, Oscar winner Rami Malek, Olympic gold medal winners and a trio Kardashians, came news that NBCU’s streaming service, set to launch next year, will be free and ad-supported. “While other companies are pushing advertisers out, we’re bringing them in,” said Yaccarino of the service, which will have “new originals and a gigantic library of old favorites.” Of note: Despite the money being pumped into originals, The Office is the number one show on Netflix.NBCU’s Telemundo announced a 2019-20 lineup of multiplatform programming featuring more than 900 hours of original content to an audience that yields $1.7 trillion of buying power. La Reina del Sur star Kate del Castillo, together with La Voz coach Luis Fonsi – who gave a special performance of hit Latin songs – were showcased at the NBCU event. Monday night, Telemundo feted advertisers at the Hammerstein Ballroom with a concert by Pitbull.
Empire’s reign is coming to an end. FOX revealed that the show’s previously announced sixth season will be its last. “We are turning the final season into a large TV event,” said FOX Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier. “We are trying to go out guns a-blazing. One of the great benefits of announcing the final season is that it actually allows fans to lean in and have the ending they deserve. Six years is a remarkable run….Meanwhile, FOX confirmed that The Masked Singer was renewed for a third season. The show will make its debut after Super Bowl LIVE on Sunday, February 2, and will premiere in its regular time period on Wednesday, February 5 at 8p. Collier noted that the series would be produced via new shingle, Fox Alternative Entertainment. Endemol Shine is leaving the North American production, but will continue to produce it in other territories….Despite strong ratings in its first season on FOX, Last Man Standing won’t be on the fall schedule, but will instead be held until later in the season. The Tim Allen sitcom had to leave its Friday home, to be occupied in the fall by WWE’s SmackDown Live….NFL players J.J., T.J. and Derek Watt are set to front physical competition format Ultimate Tag. Series hails from Znak & Co., the production company run by Masterchef EP Natalka Znak. The project, which will launch in 2020, is based on a classic playground game where players chase each other in order to tag the other one
Discovery U.S. Hispanic noted it entered the 2019-2020 Upfront season as a force in the Hispanic media landscape, with its networks Discovery en Espanol and Discovery Familia claiming nearly a quarter of the total share for all Hispanic cable primetime viewing. Discovery Familia will offer new series such as Juntas y revueltas and Cristina en la Costa, as well as returning hits life Todo en 90 dias and Hermanos a la obra. Meanwhile, Discovery en Espanol, the #1 non-fiction cable, will feature programs Planeta profundo, Leyendas de lo salvaje and original series Mexicuaticos.

Amazon Prime Video acquired the global rights to the upcoming untitled Star Trek Jean-Luc Picard series. It will air in more than 200 countries and territories outside the U.S. and Canada. The deal, struck by CBS Studios International, comes as CBS All Access’ original Star Trek spin-off airs on Amazon rival Netflix. The series, which will see Sir Patrick Stewart reprise his role as Jean-Luc Picard and follow the next chapter of the character’s life, will air on Amazon globally within 24 hours of its U.S. premiere.
Writer/director Edward Berger, who worked on Showtime limited series Patrick Melrose, is heading back to the network to direct the first three episodes and executive produce new limited series Your Honor. Ten-episode legal thriller stars Bryan Cranston.
USA Network is rebooting NBC’s former hit weight loss reality series, The Biggest Loser. The 10-episosde season from Endemol Shine North America, in association with Universal Television Alternative Studio, is expected to debut in 2020. Apple launched its redesigned Apple TV app, which gives users the ability to stream more than 150 video services and subscribe directly to channels like HBO, Showtime and Starz. The updated app comes ahead of the planned fall launch of Apple TV+, the company’s video subscription service that will feature original TV shows and movies and be available via the Apple TV app.
Google announced a new advertising tool that will make it easier for marketers to create YouTube ads, which it expects to demonstrate on today at Marketing Live. Bumper Machine uses machine learning to convert a YouTube video ad with a duration of less than 90 seconds into several distinct six-second bumper ads in minutes. The tool analyzes the attributes in the frame of the clip of the ad, sharpness of focus and quality of the framing.
Tenderfoot TV’s To Live and Die in LA garnered over 15 million downloads since its premiere, averaging one million downloads per episode. The true crime podcast, which is hosted by journalist Neil Strauss and investigates the disappearance and murder of 26-year-old aspiring a tress Adea Shabani, concludes Friday, May 17.
Pocket.watch inked overall deals with two major YouTube channels, MarMar and the Onyx Family, and is set to launch new programming on both of them, in addition to existing partners Evan Tube, JillianTube and HobbyKids TV. Cineflix Media Inc. and Scott Brothers Entertainment expanded their partnership with an IP deal. The pact gives Cineflix Rights the worldwide distribution rights, excluding U.S. and English language Canada, to Drew and Jonathan Scott’s newest title, Property Brothers: Forever Home, rolling out with an initial 40 episodes.
Nine commissioned a second season of LegoMasters from Endemol Shine Australia. The series premiered with a national average audience of 2.134 million, making it the highest rating launch episode of any series this year.
