CBS’s daytime lineup isn’t going anywhere – Let’s Make a Deal, The Talk, The Bold and the Beautiful (picked up for two years), and The Price Is Right and The Young and the Restless, which previously were picked up through 2017, were all renewed. The shows are up an average 2 percent in viewers versus year ago. And “next year will be even bigger and bolder!” promised Angelica McDaniel, EVP of daytime programs.

What cord-cutters? Comcast reported an increase of 53,000 video customers, its best new subscriber total for a first quarter in nine years. 1Q16 profits were up 3.6 percent. The news was reported during the company’s earnings call Wednesday. “We’ve spent a lot of time on the customer experience and I think that’s helping churn,” said Neil Smit, CEO of the cable division. “We’re doing the right things in customer experience, and we’re doing right things on the products side.” As for a Wall Street Journal report saying Comcast is in talks to buy DreamWorks Animation for over $3 billion – no comment.

Cultural insights agency TruthCo. released a new study, “Omniculturalism: 10 New Ways to Look at Diversity,” that analyzes the cultural landscape to find out what brands need to know to maximize cultural success. What’s the takeaway for programmers? “Diversity has been a top-of-mind issue in the entertainment industry, but often the way we discuss this topic is out of touch with the ways Millennials view difference and identity,” Rajiv Menon, cultural analyst at TruthCo., tells Cynopsis. “Rather than speaking in the language of ‘minorities’ and other demographic categories that no longer resonate in culture, it’s important for content creators to explore what happens when difference of identity is treated like an everyday fact of life.”

As if Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan haven’t offered enough daytime drama lately, Access Hollywood Live host Billy Bush is jumping to Today, according to the Hollywood Reporter. NBC is saving the reveal for its May 16 Upfront presentation, according to THR.

Sesame Workshop and IBM are collaborating to develop educational platforms and products designed to adapt to the learning preferences and levels of individual pre-schoolers. “Ultimately, the goal is to provide children from all socio-economic backgrounds with the opportunity for meaningful, personalized education in their most formative years,” said Jeffrey D. Dunn, CEO of Sesame Workshop.

The E.W. Scripps Company has hired political journalist Mike Sacks to lead national election coverage on The Now, a Scripps original program produced locally in 11 markets. Scripps is committing 100 minutes of political coverage each week in the 45 days leading up to Election Day. Sacks’ stories will also be offered across Scripps online and mobile platforms.

Turner Classic Movies, in partnership with platform fullcube, has created a club to super-serve fans. TCM Backlot will offer fans exclusive content, never-before-seen interviews, archival videos and a podcast, as well as opportunities for meet-and-greets with TCM hosts. “We are always looking for exciting and immersive brand extension opportunities and TCM Backlot offers just that – allowing fans the ability to go behind-the-scenes and dive deeper into the world of TCM,” said Jennifer Dorian, net GM.

Add TV5Monde USA to the International Broadcaster Coalition Against Piracy, an alliance made up of over 100 TV channels around the world working to protect members’ video content from copyright infringement. Because in any language, that’s stealing.

CNN is onboard with comScore syndicated measurement service Xmedia, designed to measure a total unduplicated view of audience across its TV and digital in a single metric. A study of CNN’s cross-media audience is  “a great example of how a media brand with a strong footprint on TV, desktop and mobile can demonstrate its full value proposition to advertisers, while at the same time getting a better understanding of how its own viewers engage across different media touchpoints,” said Gian Fulgoni, co-founder and chairman emeritus, comScore. Among the study’s findings: CNN’s presence on TV, desktop and mobile reaches an unduplicated audience of 174 million, more than half the U.S. population, and the network reaches 40 percent of Millennials from its digital platforms, rising to 60 percent when combined with TV.
