AwesomenessTV musical drama Side Effects will air on E! today at 3p ET as a 90-minute movie. Co-produced by ATV and Universal Cable Productions (UCP), Side Effects debuted in 2013 as a long-form special on ATV’s YouTube channel, hitting more than two million views in its first week; a 2014 sequel began as a four-episode series on the ATV app. The E! broadcast will include never-before-seen content that will then move to ATV’s YouTube Channel. “Great content works on any platform and at any length,” ATV’s CEO and Founder Brian Robbins said. “Side Effects was the first time we experimented with long form content on YouTube and it was a huge success. Now viewers can choose to watch it as a movie on E!, download it or watch the third season on AwesomenessTV.” Season three launches April 18.
AOL and GroupM Entertainment (GME) sealed a deal to develop a new original web series for a global audience. The project for AOL Originals will be co-produced by GME and syndicated through The AOL ON Network. “As the industry converges this month at the Digital Content NewFronts, one of the biggest two week periods in the advertising industry in the US, it’s exciting to see this kind of UK-led partnership take center stage,” said AOL’s Head of International Graham Moysey.
Programming distributor Cinedigm acquired North American theatrical, digital and home entertainment distribution rights to A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Story. The doc premiered last month at SXSW, winning the festival’s Audience Award in its category. YouTube celebrity Justine Ezarik (iJustine) and Alexis Jones, founder of I Am That Girl, along with the doc’s main subject, Lizzie Velasquez, serve as executive producers.
Global multi-platform network Rightster will manage the deployment of 20th Century Fox’s YouTube marketing strategy for 35 channels across 17 countries. Per the deal, Rightster will also manage audience development and influencer collaboration for Fox. Rightster’s network reaches 1.6 billion views and 75 million subscribers.
Asian entertainment company CJ Entertainment has partnered with VOD streaming service app Walle to launch Korean movies and TV on Facebook for the first time. U.S. fans can now catch movies on demand directly from the CJ Entertainment USA, KCON and Mnet America Facebook pages. CJE’s FB page celebrated the announcement and the U.S. release of Twenty by featuring the other flick from main star Kim Woo-bin, Friend II: The Legacy. Prices for titles range from $1.99- $3.99.
More Asian entertainment content is on the way: international TV and movie streaming service DramaFever will exclusively premiere Gangnam Blues on April 18. Starring Boys Over Flowers and Heirs star Lee Min Ho, the action film follows two best friends separated by South Korea’s street fighter gangs.
LAFF, a comedy-centric broadcast TV network, added rights to all six season and 145 episodes of Spin City. The content is available at LAFF.com and through the LAFF TV app for iOS and Android devices.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Hubble Telescope launch, digital network XiveTV premiered new documentary, The Age of Hubble. Part of XiveTV’s special space collection, The Age of Hubble is now is available to stream on XiveTV’s mobile apps for iOS and Android devices, and part of XiveTV’s SpaceRip YouTube channel as well as on Hulu. Other new programming in the collection includes Secrets of the Universe, Cosmic Journeys and Cosmic Vistas.

The navigation app Waze snagged Serbian NBA legend Vlade Divac to create custom voice commands. Known for his stint on the LA Lakers and Sacramento Kings in the ‘90s and early 2000’s, Divac will be the first of many NBA personalities to be featured as voices and rolled out on the app in the coming months. Waze users can join an NBA team on the app, and collect basketball goodies to help their team win games.
