IN THE NEWS

The CW has given early renewals to 11 series. “As we continue to further our strategy of more year-round original programming, picking up these 11 series for the 2016-2017 season puts us in a great position of having proven, high-quality shows to launch in the fall as well as midseason and summer of 2017,” said net president Mark Pedowitz. Back for more: Jane the Virgin, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The Flash, iZombie, Arrow, Supernatural, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The 100, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals and Reign.

Switched at Birth is coming to a close. Series creator and EP Lizzy Weiss announced the news on Twitter, posting, “This season of #SwitchedatBirth will be our final one. We are ending the show after an amazing 103 episodes with pride, love, and gratitude.” The series launched on ABC Family in 2011; a premiere date for its fifth and final season, airing on the rebranded Freeform,  has yet to be announced.

Cesar Millan was named in a complaint filed against his Santa Clarita, CA, dog psychology center after a potbellied pig was bitten by a dog at the facility. The former Dog Whisperer and current star of Nat Geo WILD‘s Ceasar 911 is fully cooperating with authorities. Explained a Nat Geo WILD spokesperson, “In a recent episode of the Nat Geo WILD series Cesar 911, Cesar works with an aggressive French bulldog/terrier mix named Simon, who has a history of attacking other animals, including his owner’s pet potbellied pigs. A short clip from the episode was shared online and showed Simon chasing a pig and nipping its ear, causing the ear to bleed. The clip caused some concern for viewers who did not see or understand the full context of the encounter.”

ABC has landed the first TV interview with Kate del Castillo, who helped broker the meeting between then-fugitive drug lord El Chapo and Sean Penn. The telenovela star will discuss details of the meeting in the Diane Sawyer special edition of 20/20 airing Friday, March 18 at 10 p. The interview will also on air on Good Morning America, World News Tonight with David Muir, Nightline, ABCNews.com, ABC News Radio and ABC NewsOne.

Scream Queens main cast is back for the Fox show’s sophomore season. At PaleyFest on Saturday, Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma Roberts, Lea Michele, Niecy Nash, Keke Palmer, Abigail Breslin and Billie Lourd all raised their hands when panel moderator Debra Birnbaum asked who would be returning. Look for the story of the sorority massacre to continue in a hospital.

Lilliana Vazquez has joined NBC’s Today show as a regular contributor. The blogger had been a recurring fashion expert for four years. In addition to fashion, Vazquez will cover stories across lifestyle categories, including pop culture, travel, wellness, technology and entertainment.

Entertainment One Music is releasing a soundtrack in conjunction with Bounce TV for the network’s drama series Saints & Sinners. The new album, Saints & Sinners: Original Soundtrack From Season 1, will be out on Friday, March 25 exclusively via digital retailers. Series airs Sundays at 9p.
