NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

 
YouTube’s “Superwoman,” otherwise known as the largest video site from Lilly Singh, will join forces with Collective Digital Studio on a series that’s a spy/ comedy/beauty mash-up. Called Lana Steele. Make-up Spy, Singh will play a secret agent who goes undercover using “the art of make-up” over a span of 12 scripted episodes. Eps will be released every Friday on CDS’ Ilovemakeup channel from May 13 through May 22. CDS launched Ilovemakeup with cosmetics brand Bobbi Brown Make-up in 2013, and has 350,000 subscribers; Singh boasts 4.2 million subs and more than 615 million lifetime views.
 
Complex partnered with rapper Eminem and Paul Rosenberg to debut the documentary Not Afraid: The Shade Records Story. The doc, available at Complex.com, follows the genesis of Shady Records during its 15-year run.
 
People Now, the daily live online show presented by Toyota on People.com, announced that Jeremy Sisto (The Returned), Alicia Silverstone (Clueless), Mekhi Phifer (Insurgent), Noah Emmerich (The Americans), Olivia Holt (I Didn’t Do it), Kristi Yamaguchi (Dancing with the Stars), The Royals’ stars Alexandra Park and Tom Austen and others will make guest appearances this week. The 20-minute program offers interviews, entertainment updates, and human interest stories Monday-Friday at 8:30a ET and 11:30a ET online.

MOBILE GAMING + APPS
 

Amazon is ramping up its mobile gaming division, rolling out recent acquisitions and multiple original games on Apple devices. For the first time, four different Amazon Game Studios titles will come to the iOS world, including horror game Lost Within, sci-fi adventure Tales From Deep Space, haunted adventure Til Morning’s Light and arcade game To-Fu Fury. Until now, the company’s mobile games have only been available on Fire TV and other devices within the Fire family. Created with game studios such as Wayforward Technologies and Frontier Developments, Amazon intends to charge a premium price tag of $6.99 per game, a decision that goes against the current free-for-play trend in the mobile gaming industry.

Twitter is teaming up with data management platform Acxiom. Through 135 different Acxiom categories, advertisers will be able to analyze their Twitter audience based on span marketing sectors including financial services, retail, auto and consumer packaged goods.
 
As of today, MediaOcean is dancing to a new tune, courtesy of Spotify. “With audio increasingly being consumed digitally, we have partnered with Spotify to offer broadcast and digital audio buyers access to inventory from one platform,” Mediaocean Vice President of Product and Partner Cordie DePascale said.
 
 

VIRTUAL REALITY

 
Virtual reality will welcome another major player to the business: Google. The tech giant is currently working on a VR headset for its Android operating system, The Wall Street Journal reports. So far, other VR headsets will not run on an OS but rather the computer to which they are configured. Facebook, Samsung, HTC, Microsoft and PlayStation are all creating their own devices, which are expected to hit the market in the next two years.
 
Mountain Dew
released its second virtual reality experience with Firstborn digital agency during the Burton U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships last week. Using Facebook’s Oculus Rift VR headset, the experience takes viewers alongside Olympic snowboarders Danny Davis, Scotty Lago and Jack Mitrani as they swoosh. It will also be presented at South by Southwest in Austin (which kicks off this Friday, March 13), and is available on Samsung Gear VR headset. Mountain Dew’s first VR campaign came out last year, featuring pro skateboarder Paul Rodriguez.

DIGITAL SPOTLIGHT OF THE DAY

 
Filmed in YouTube Space New York last week, the YT comedian Paul Gale celebrated International Women’s Day by creating an amusing but important video-statement about the pay gap that still exists between men and women in America today, which has women earning 78% for every dollar that men take home for performing the same job. Called Amazon Prime for Women, the service offers 78% of Amazon items for 78% of the full price. Gale is known for viral sketches such as Why Starbucks Spells Your Name wrong, which hit nine million views since it was released. The platform also took part in International Women’s Day with the #DearMe initiative that involved vloggers Felicia Day, Michelle Phan, Hannah Hart and Grace Helbig.
