"An ‘all-front’ is approaching," teased The Weather Company (formerly The Weather Channel) during its presentation of linear and digital originals at this year’s AllFront yesterday at the Times Center. With video streams across mobile platforms up 322 percent, and its mobile app hitting 130 million app downloads, according to SVP of digital ad sales Jeremy Steinberg, TWC’s renewed digital efforts include:
- Video Minutes: Having launched last year, a new collection of videos are arriving: Warp (about the future of earth), Human Nature (about the environment’s impact on health), Melt (inspiring stories from social media), Crazimals (bizarre and entertaining animal news).
- Weather Films, another series that launched last year originally as an adventure show, will now turn in an investigative-documentary direction, tackling topics like fracking and wildfires across the U.S.
- Will To Live will be the first cross-platform programming for the network, set to premiere on April 20 at 9 p.m. Two of the five hours of programming will be produced by Weather’s digital team.
- The Weather Channel App: the network is updating its mobile app with a new interface, social features, native advertising and more content.
The Walt Disney Company and Dish Network announced a new programming deal yesterday. Under the pact, Dish will have over-the-top rights and the ability to stream TV and VOD content from Disney entities like ABC Family, Disney Channel, ESPN and ESPN2 as part of a web offering. Dish, on the other hand, agreed to deactivate the ad-skipping feature on its Hopper digital video recorder for three days after an ABC program airs. Also, Dish will add Disney’s TV Everywhere services, so subscribers can watch video on devices outside of the home. Dish will also carry Hispanic news and lifestyle network Fusion as well as Disney Junior, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN Buzzer Beater, Longhorn Network upcoming SEC ESPN Network.

British TV streaming platform Acorn TV is now exclusively streaming the first three series of Rumpole of the Bailey and Wild At Heart, as well as the first two series of BBC game show IQ and Talks About Nothing. Acorn TV has also added Emmy-winning miniseries Edward & Mrs. Simpson along with Cadfael, Jack Irish: Dead Point, George Gently, Series 6, You, Me & Them and Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Series 2. All of the programming will be available to stream on its Roku channel and www.Acorn.TV.

About.com has hired Pearl Collings as its first Senior Vice President of sales Operations and Natlie Klinkhammer as its Vice President of Sales, West. Collings was previously the SVP of Sales Operations at Everyday Health. Klinkhammer’s portfolio includes Ziff Davis and Yahoo.
Digital ad tech company Magnetic has hired Julian Joseph as its Director of Accounts in Toronto, Canada. Joseph co-founded Toronto startup Bash Interactive, and has been involved in IAB Canada’s Emerging Platform Council for the past four years.
David Nevins has been promoted to Showtime Networks’ newly created role of President. Nevins joined Showtime in 2010 as the President of Entertainment.
